Place is small and cramped, they mess up orders, take forever for drinks, WATERED DOWN Salsa (Tasted like tap water and Jalepenos) and Beans, Tamela = crap, tacos were actually good. Do not believe the people who say this is the best in Richmond as they have obviously never been anywhere else, the best places are off of knockles road and another at brook rd & parham. Also people who calls this authentic have no clue what authentic mexican is, all of the Richmond Mexican resturants sell the same prepackaged frozen item and just heat it up thier own way nothing more, and this place sucked at even doing that. What really topped it off was the fried ice cream, it is nothing but a Choco Taco (You can buy these for $1 at Walmart) with whipped cream on WTF!!?!?!!! If you want great Mexican style food, goto Cha Cha Cantina in Shokoe Bottom, you will always want to get thier sadly in richmond though so kind of far from the Henrico area. On a side note, every dinner combination is either $7.50 or $7.75 just in case anyone readin was curious.

wow! I never read so many mediocre reviews about Mexican food El Caporal is "ok" but not authentic, take it from me I am Mexican, all the restaurant in the Henrico area if not all of them are Mexican-American to go "easy" on you American people. pretty soon we will hear that Taco bell is also authentic, get a grip on yourselves the salsa is poorly made and canned refried beans and the chimichanga sauce also canned just look on the back, they have a little storage shed usually open, you can peak there are a lot of canning, and if you go to "EL POTRILLO" LABERNAUM AND MECHANICSVILLE TURNPIKE is WORSE if you ask for the steak, theyll give steak allight PREVIOUSLY FRIED FROM YESTERDAY!!. RIDICULOUS!! no kidding. so be aware no all Mexican restaurants are all alike, some of the are pretty good, but it is a matter of trial and error.

This was our first time visiting El Caporal and Wow! this place is great!. When we pulled up we said, "it sure is cute, I hope the food is as good as the place looks." The parking lot had lots of cars and that is always a good sign. From the moment we walked in, we knew we would be coming back. We walked in at 6:30pm on a Saturday and did not have to wait for a table. The atmosphere is awesome, the chips, salsa and white sauce is awesome, the food is awesome, the margarita is awesome and the service is awesome. Who cares if we have to drive 20 minutes to get there? It is well worth the trip! I would give it 6 stars if I could!

A hidden gem. This is my Mexican soul food. Ive been coming here since they first opened. Ive relocated in D.C., but whenever Im in town, I come here. Food is always consistent and tastes great, and you get more than what you pay for. I prefer the flavors here over other places, where they all typically taste the same. I always order the chicken burrito fajitas. This is the only Mexican place that I get a craving for. Also, the sweet white sauce is the best.

It may look a bit run down from the exterior, but the inside is clean and nice, the service is good, and the food is excellent. I dont think you will find the menu much different than other local Mexican food. The white sauce that comes with the chips and salsa is different and very tasty. I also like that they still have combo platters on the menu, something that I think Mexico has done away with. Overall, a good experience and I recommend.

Ive been here a lot and I really like the place. The food is not the best in Richmond, but not the worst. It is family owned and run. I always see the same employees, which is a good thing. Salsa pretty much sucks, but it is edible, just not fantastic. It is middle-of-the-road Mexican food from scratch, not the prepackaged meals like at some other restaurants.

We go here often for takeout. Big portions and perfectly cooked everything. Our personal favorites are the taco salad and the Mexican nachos. The nachos are LOADED with meat, beans, and toppings. Youll need extra chips for sure (or a fork :) ) Service is always fast and friendly, for carryout or dine-in. Would recommend to anyone.

We have been enjoying meals at El Caporal on East Ridge Road, Richmond since it opened. We are delighted with the food, service, cleanliness, and price. The wait staff and owners are great - friendly and accomodating. Whenever we want a good Mexican meal, we think of El Caporal and know we are going to have an enjoyable experience.

This place is very unassuming from the outside, and we drove past for four years before I finally ventured in. I have since been several times and brought my family -- it is a great "go to" spot for all your Mexican standards. Large menu, very reasonable price, friendly Spanish-speaking servers, Mexican music.

This is BY FAR the best mexican restaurant I have ever been too. The food is awesome, prices are great and the staff is so friendly. My family goes in so often the owners know us by site and always come over to say hi. Try the enchiladas nortenas- cant be bought at any other restaurant and they are AMAZING!

I ordered the Quesadilla Texana; I would highly reccomend it to anyone who like chicken, beef, and shrimp. It was delicious and huge. I made it through half of the dish then I was stuffed. There was just the right amount of cheese. Im bringing my bf next time!

The best Mexican food I ever had and if you are someone who does not like Mexican or scared to try, this is the spot to try...the King Nachos with sour cream, cheese, chicken only, no beans, no guac is the best!!! Thats how I like mine!!!!!!!!

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Their food, service and quality are unbeatable. You feel like you are eating at a family restaurant. Its a small spot but big on everything else including portions.

I had a fish salad. I found it strange that it was served with mixed vegetables. The vegetables were EXACTLY like generic frozen stringbeans, carrots , and corn. It was very simple and something that I could make at home.

El Caporal is our favorite restaurant in Richmond. It is family owned and operated, as well as reasonably priced. Were proud to be some of their regular customers. We highly recommend them! Try the burrito asada!
