Its a bit hard to rate this place, but Ill give them the benefit of the doubt. First, it was pretty clear that our waitress had no real idea about what Japanese food is and that she was there because she was offered the job. I get that, but you should learn a thing or two about what you sell. I had the Pork Katsu-don. It wasnt quite what I expected, but it seems that it is correct in at least some way. The only thing I really have to complain about is that it had none of the sauce that I would have expected, though the other toppings gave plenty of flavor to the dish. Other than that, they didnt give me the miso soup that I was supposed to get with it, but I didnt really want it anyway. It seems that Japanese food is popular around here, but I imagine this must be one of the more decent choices in the area.

My wife and I were very impresed with Sapporo, the staff was very prompt, the food was excellent, and the place appeared to be well laid out. I had the Bento Box, what a deal! For the sushi roll in it, I had a crunchy spicy tuna roll (I had asked the waitres to surprise me), awesome. As opposed to other reviews, I had no inkinling of old oil, it was perfectly fried and crispy. The fried vegetables were also clean tasting and perfect. The only complaint I wouuld have is that the sushi bar had a noticable fishy smell to it, which didnt really bother us as we ate on the patio.

I had been a patron for over ten years and have been boycotting Sapporo since December 06. Although I have and will forever stick to my boycott I do miss the sushi. The owner of Sapporo was rude to my guests that I invited to my birthday party I had at Sapporos this past December. In a typical week I would have dinner there at least once a week, so you can imagine how rude and cruel he was to me and my guests. I support restaurants that respect and appreciate their customers now. Sapporo I am so disappointed.

Great sushi place! We stumbled in just as a big snow storm was brewing, so we were some of the few people there. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We ordered two of their specialty rolls (the red dragon, and the Maine). Well worth the extra specialty price (though still very reasonable). Delicious! Wish we lived closer; wed be there all the time.

Good service and atmosphere, but food was lacking. Apps were tasty and fresh. The sushi was just not good. Fish tasted 2-3 days old. My wife and I could only eat one bite each of a salmon roll. And the yellowtail also had a fishy taste. Maybe we just went there on the wrong day? Not very often that we leave this much sushi on the plates in eaten. Disappointing.

Great Sushi, usually great service. My wife and I used to be regulars before we moved to Portland (ironic, Im aware). I knocked off a star for overall cleanliness and the fact that there is one long-time waitress there that shouldnt be in the service industry. Lunch specials are phenomenal.

My wife and me were on vacation and stumbled into Sapporo. The sevice was attentive but not in your face. The atmosphere is light and calming, Sushi was hit the spot. I was surprised at the very reasonable cost. Lunch for two with everything was only $26.00 so tip big.

I was happy to eat Sushi here. The taste was great and the price was resonable. Also the service is very good. The Sushi taste was unforgetable. Shari tates and the tempareture was very nice balance. Neta was also fresh. I recommend this Sushi place highly.

Every time I go there I have great customer service and the food is always great. I would have to say their bento box lunch special is my favorite :) I have been to almost every sushi place in portland and by far I love this one the most!

My favorite spot in town to get sushi. Pretty no frills spot with great rolls and friendly service. Plus you can have a nice walk down commercial street to work off the one roll too many you order along with the fried ice cream.

Excellent and reasonably priced sushi, but HORRIBLE service. Our waitress didnt even serve one of the members of our table. She arrived late and the waitress refused to serve her.

Great lunch specials. Convenient location on the waterfront of downtown Portland. Had been around for ages & popular with the business crowd at lunch.

Very good food, good staff but the food preparation is on the slow side. Depending upon how much time you have you may want to weigh your options.

Quiet Thursday night at Sapporo. The sushi chef was friendly and offered excellent recommendations. The local Uni was excellent.

Great sushi, location and atmosphere. Parking can be tricky. The specialty drink menu shrank since my last visit.
