Dined at Green Tea in Bangor on Saturday, 12-11-10. Id had lunch there a couple times before and found both the Japanese & Chinese food unremarkable (even for the area) and a bit pricey, but never had a really horrible experience. So a friend and I were out Christmas shopping at the mall and decided to get dinner there. What resulted was not only one of the worst meals but one of the most bizarre restaurant experiences either of us (especially my friend) ever had. We decided to order a pu-pu platter (or "Green Tea" platter as they call it) and it was absolutely horrible! With the exception of the Crab Rangoons, which were OK, everything was burned and overly greasy tasting. Yes, I know pu-pu platters tend to be greasy, but no exagerration, this one tasted like it had been in a kitchen fire. The chicken fingers had almost no chicken in them and tasted like (badly) homemade donuts. But even worse than the food were the antics of our waiter. When he first came to the table he put his hands on my male friends shoulders and sort of massaged them while he was talking to us. OK, we figured, he was just being friendly in his way. However, EVERY time he came back to our table he did the same thing. I counted 8 times and my friend was feeling VERY uncomfortable with the waiters creepy advances (I would call them advances because every time he did his touchy-feely massage thing he was obviously enjoying doing it). Long story short, we paid the tab and got out of there. I will say one good thing about Green Tea: they have nice decor and the inside of the restaurant is attractive. However, theres no excuse for the behavior of at least one of their wait staff, and the food just isnt that good. For Japanese food in Bangor, Ichiban is far superior and much less expensive (and Yoshi in nearby Brewer is also better). For Chinese, try Panda Garden or Chopsticks.

Will not be returning, Ive had few problems in the past with this place. Today was the first time in a long while that Id been, and the worst experience ever, I ordered a spicy salmon roll thinking it was cooked. When I got it I took one bit and realized it was not cooked. When I asked the waitress if it was raw she stated it was, Then my friend and I asked if she could take it off my bill and she said "yes of course". When she returned with the bills, the roll had not been taken off when I asked again she stated shed have to ask the manager. She left and came back saying they couldnt not take it off after saying she would. I spoke to the manager (which I had to go to the take out window to talk too) and she reiterated what the waitress said, that it could not be taken off cause I had eaten one piece of it. I told her what the waitress first said when we both asked. And shes like well you could ask her, referring to the waitress, to buy it for you but its restaurant policy that we cannot refund. So I then stated that the waitress shouldnt have stated it could be taken off if she had to ask the manager, again she agreed but would not take it off. Earlier in the night the waitress, whose name is Lydia, told my friend that there was 12 pieces in a roll of sushi she was going to order, and the amount of pieces was the reason behind ordered it, when she got it there were only 8 pieces, when she asked the waitress about she apologized saying she was confused and that its hard to keep track of all the amounts. This waitress clearly needs to be retrained on the restaurants policy before she goes making statements that are not correct and maybe management should work more on the statement that the customer is always right. I loved coming there, even though it was once in a blue moon. But Ill be going to Yoshis in brewer from now on.

I give this place 3 stars because it could he so much more... A chinese sushi place. Wth! But i gave it a shot because it was close to mt y hotel. Right when i walked in i got a calming sense because it was so clean, well decorated and the sushi and dining area were properly divided. I was seated at the sushi bar proptly by the manager. He was such a nice dude. My next encounter was the sushi chef. Hes super quiet but opened uo when he noticed i really know about sushi. We had great convo. After sitting down i immediately noticed that they only had 3 kinds of raw fish in the sushi box. This was a bummer because i love all kinds. Well after i ordered the "sashimi sample" i was pleasantly surprised to see an extra meat on my plate. They had yellowtail belly. When i let him know that now we are in business, we stsrted talking about our favorite kinds. I brought up uni and low and behold he had some in the under fridge. I ordered some of that, and it was bomb. It was still firm and tongue like, not all watery and droopy like a flacid... well you know haha. While i give this place a 3 star, its only because im spoiled from California sushi. But i had a great experience there. Of youve made it this far you realized i gave it a 4 star... i talked myself out of the 3 as i was typing all this!

I use to love Green Tea and would go a few times a week. I was always able to overlook the horrible service because I liked their sushi. Untill recently when I got food poisoning ( I know it was from Green Tea because it is all I had eaten that day). I was so ill I had to go the the doctor for the food poisoning. That alone would not have stopped me from ever going back or talking ill about the place. It was what happened when I called to let them know. First I could never get hold of a manager or owner, I left messages and they never returned them. Then when I finialy talked to someone instead of saying "Im so sorry that happened to you, we will look into it." (which was all I was looking for) I got "So what do you want me to do about it!" Im so angry about how I was talked to after throwing up for 8 hours straight. Im so outraged about how this was handled I will NEVER BE GOING BACK!

I was a long time customer but will not be going back after last time. The service was terrible from start to finish. The hostess walked by us grabbed menus and went to the table without ever saying a word to us. I had to ask from the doorway if it was our table. We were seated behind a column and forgot about even with plenty of other tables free. Our order was rushed, appetizer, entree, and drink all at once. Our drinks were half full and weak. Entrees came out before the appetizer, and when it did come out was 5 shrimp and they were small and over done.

We had read that this restaurant had poor service and good food but good sushi is hard to find in Maine so we decided to risk it. The sushi was phenomenal. The service was poor. The atmosphere is a little pretentious and the drink was very disappointing. I ordered a blue hawaii and it was basically blue pineapple juice and no alcohol to speak of... not what I would expect for $7 at an asian restaurant. I would go back, but next time Ill get sushi and skip all the extras.
