Am I biased because Ive been coming here for 20 years? Maybe. But hear me out. There were some dark times in the Abita Cafe history: when the ownership changed and all the food went downhill. When they went from doing one thing (breakfast) VERY WELL to doing everything (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) VERY POORLY. When they raised the prices to make up for poor sales (aka the death spiral). When they were only open a few days a week because they couldnt afford to be open and empty. But with the new (ish) owners on board (children of the ORIGINAL owners), the cafe has reached its former apex. Had I been writing this review 5 or 6 years ago, it would be a 2 star at best. But now, this tiny little shack in the heart of downtown Abita is its crown jewel once again. Breakfast fare runs from the very affordable a la carte all the way to exquisite benedicts. Their staff is always friendly, even though Ill sometimes see different faces when I make the trek home to eat here. The place is hopping as soon as they open (indoor and outdoor seating is usually to the brim by 8:30 AM especially on weekends), and it doesnt stop. Their Abita Star (2 or 3 eggs, bell peppers, mushrooms, and onions, on top of a ham steak, on top of a bed of crispy hash browns), aside from now having a ham steak instead of ham pieces, tastes just as good as the first time I had it over two decades ago. The fun doesnt stop there: their chicken and waffles is AMAZING. Their crabcake benedict is AMAZING. EVERY SINGLE THING IS AMAZING. And yet, somehow, they still serve the same "diner-style coffee" (it tastes like coffee but has no caffination effect) even though they now use Abita Roasting Co. beans. Not only that, but they now have a full service espresso and alcohol bar, so get an iced latte or a bloody mary to top it all off. This place has seen some changes throughout the years, and it was touch and go for a little while. But theyre back on top of their game once again, and Im so happy they are. The only thing you will regret about coming here is the fact that you cant try everything in one sitting.

The sweet cream pancakes have a lot of good, powerful flavors and were griddled perfectly. My chicken and waffles were well seasoned and featured a tasty praline sauce with a generous amount of pecans. The portions were large. They have many coffee options as well as wine, beer, and spirits, some mixed with their coffee. You can take home some beans to brew or pancake mix for later. The building is old and rustic with a aged charm. You can read about its history on the menu. It is smaller, with a main dining area and smaller area of to the side. They have outdoor seating with misters and fans in the wrap-around patio and on the side. We were seated immediately for our brunch at 11 on a Saturday. The waitress was attentive and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time. You can reserve a table ahead of time or just show up and pick your spot. Highly recommended!

Classic old time Louisiana atmosphere with a smart menu and a caring staff. Quality is very consistent over the years Ive eaten there. Very reasonable prices. Theres a bar and outside seating at picnic tables when the weathers nice along with regular tables inside and out of the main dining area. Ceiling fans and spray misters out front. Can get crowded on Sunday mornings. Highly recommended.

Great diner! Wide range of stuff to order. They even have a la carte option so customers can build their own breakfast anyway they like. Inside and outside / patio seating is available. Prices are somewhere in midrange. I went with Greek Omelet and it was fantastic. And you gotta try their cheese grits

Stopped in twice so far. Both times I had a great experience. Food and atmosphere were all great. Food was tasty and came out fast even though they were busy. Staff didnt leave us wanting for anything. And a decent local beer selection. Well definitely be back.

The food is absolutely delicious. I had a side of mac which was a little bland, but salt and pepper quickly remedied it. The restaurant is exactly like the rest of Abita Springs: quaint, charming and beautiful. They do Louisiana proud.

Fun little cafe in Abita Springs. A spot that local people eat at! Had great fried catfish, sliced thin, battered well, and fried perfectly. Dessert was great, too. Liked your little cafe so much we returned two more times. Thank you!

Great place for a lunch stop. There was open air courtyard and a covered patio available for dining. the staff was great too, fast and courteous. We had the waitress suggest for us and the choice was great. Try the PB&J burger!

My boyfriend and I loved everything! Large orange juices, biscuits & gravy, hash browns, bacon, sausage patties, and a pancake. Plenty of food to share between us both. Will definitely be back while traveling through.

Very slow service, even when not busy, apparently (I waited for 40 minutes when I was one of 2 active tables on the patio and they were fully staffed). Other than that, fair prices, good food, and generous portions.

I love this place! We eat here all the time. Its great food and in a convenient location. The philly burger with mojo sauce is amazing. I took a star off for their hours. I wish they were open more often.

Cozy atmosphere, outdoors under a porch safe from rain and with fans overhead. Good during a hot day. Large portions and great tasting food. The church in the background adds to the charm.

The best breakfast around, beyond any doubt. The Chicken and Waffles and the French Toast are so good they have ruined other breakfast restaurants for me.

Its a weekend staple for us. Great outdoor seating. Be patient though.... not the fastest service, but realize its the country and close to the Big Easy.
