Today I would have to give it about 3.5 stars. I had heard they could be crowded so I arrived promptly at 8. They did not open for another 5 to 7 minutes. I thought the woman who was working behind the cash register was a little bit rude. As everyone was funneling in she quipped something along the line of "move on in people youre letting all the heat in". Once inside I was quickly seated. I noticed a slightly musty smell as I walked through the door but that seemed unnoticeable after a couple of minutes. I ordered coffee and my breakfast. Considering the delay to get in the door I received my coffee at about 8:20. My waitress Raquita (spelling?) was excellent. She really hustled considering the number of people who were seated at the same time. My coffee was never more than about half empty. I ordered the eggs and ham. They were both just what you would expect from a southern breakfast. The pancakes were good as where the biscuits, and both were included with my eggs and ham. I thought the gravy was slightly runny, but the flavor was okay. Overall, had they opened on time, and the woman up front seemed slightly welcoming, I would probably have given them a solid four to maybe a four and a half stars for a cafe. I paid $20.72 including the $5 tip.

My husband and I recently dined at this quaint and cozy little cafe. We were so pleased with so many aspects of our entire dining experience. Practically located at the back door of our hotel, this place had great service, EXCELLENT food, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The portions are out of this world!! We opted to share the mexican roll ups which came with a side of black beans. The other side choices were grits, hashbrowns, or three buttermilk pancakes. After observing other diners dishes, there was NO WAY we could pass on the pancakes. We were SO glad we didnt. They were golden, fluffy, and came with warm maple syrup and creamy butter for topping. We ordered a side of hashbrowns that were crispy and delicious as well. The dishes were very reasonably priced. We are 100% major fans of this cafe, and will definitely go back. The view of the square outside of the window was nice, and the home-like setting made us feel very comfortable. You must try this gem!!!

Decent food, grumpy hostess, excellent server. Prepare to wait for a while if you go on Sunday morning. With seating and food arrival it took about 2 hours to start eating. They seemed under staffed and the hostess was less polite than I would have liked. The waitress made up for it as far as service goes. She was great. She was courteous and kept her cool when she was being pulled in 18 different directions. She never had an attitude with us, this really shined after the long wait to be seated and the hostesses not so friendly demeanor. It took another hour before the food arrived (about 30 mins to get some coffee after being seated), so as long as youve got time and in no hurry, I would check it out if you are in the Memphis area. Bacon, Ham, Biscuits and Pancakes shined.

Charming little place, set beside a park with bright yellow walls adorned with local art work, blue gingham table cloths. The food was amazingly southern and made from scratch. Sausage gravy was the right consistency (gravy like) not a gloppy thick mess. The Country Ham was the size of the platter with perfectly baked biscuits of which I asked for 2 more for the road(I had to wait a few minutes they were being baked). Our server "Holly" was a doll, busy but attentive. By the time we left she was waiting on 23 guests and my coffee mug was never empty. The atmosphere is cozy and family like...someones home. You owe it to yourself to visit this piece of southern joy nessetled in downtown Memphis, from the first time or over and over again.

The service was just adequate, the workers didnt seem as though they wanted to be there. I ordered Biscuits and gravy. The gravy was watered down and bland. I also had side plates of hashbrowns and bacon. The potatoes were at best room temp and had zero taste to them. My bacon was chewy....which, maybe Im wrong, but i dont believe bacon is supposed to be that way. No refills on our water and my lady friend had to chew her way through the one over easy egg she ordered....chewed her way through because of the egg shells left in the egg!! Ridiculous and kinda gross. Wouldnt go back even if somone else was paying....you can very easily find a better place for breakfast!

It seemed a bit chaotic getting in. There didnt seem to be any host, it seemed that all the employees took turns seating people. Food was excellent with one exception. I had the homestyle hash browns as a side with my omelet and although the taste was delicious I dont think they had been rinsed properly as they were gritty, like sand or dirt was sprinkled throughout. The biscuits and gravy were amazing and the pancakes were yum. Even the coffee was good and you rarely ever find anything but thin coffee at these type places. If I was ever again in the area Id go again but Id skip the potatoes. Oh and our waitress was very nice.

This place does have above average food but to be seated by a hostesses and the server doesnt come by for 10 min is ridiculous only reason why she came by is because another server from another section came by and asked if the server came by. This place used to be so much better dont know what happen to it. Guess I will go back to the one in East Memphis

My daughter loved her french toast. The biscuits and sawmill gravy was horrible. it was like water. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The hostess/cashier was absolutely horrible. What an unhappy person she was. When I went to pay, she never asked how everything was, she didnt even thank me. When I said thank you, have a nice day she said nothing a

Nice place, good food & good prices. But seems like they dont care for repeat customers because most of the time they are rude.. guess they have so many standing in line they dont need the business and just talk to people how they please. I dont take my visiting guest there because of this. I wish they would get some southern hospitality.

...server said hot plate then made my date grab it from her. Gave my daughter pancakes when she ordered waffles. Up sold us city ham that was overcooked to jerky dryness. The gravy was watery. Overmedium eggs came out sunny side... at least she gave us coffee refills? Gross wont go again, cant believe it has any good reviews on here.

Extremely rude service. I tried to place a duplicate order from my coworker and was approached by some lady from the kitchen explaining that, this particular order is done as a favor for certain customers but not a regular menu item. They never have to expect a return visit from me. Very rude service for mediocre tasting food!

Great service and a good location for traveling in Memphis. We had the eggs benedict, which came with biscuits and gravy, with pancakes and a side of bacon. That was about $14, and it was like an all you can eat platter--plenty for two people. We didnt even finish the pancakes! Very good, and very good portions.
