Everything about this place is awesome. There is so much to like about this ice cream stand that I will break it down to the top 5 things about Dairy Kastle. 1) Its very budget friendly.. where else can you get a hot dog and a shake for under 4 bucks? 2) It is delicious.. from the cones, to the flurries, to the shakes, to the chili dogs (vegan and beef), to the taco in a bag, to frozen bananas, to the Fat Elvis.. I have not had anything that was not delicious. 3) My lacrosse team of 25 + begs me to bring them there every time we go to a U of L Lacrosse game. 4) My dog loves the milk bone covered in ice cream. 5) The staff is very friendly and helpful. Keep up the good work Dairy Kastle!!

This place is a summer tradition and on the weekends theres always a line. Think DQ with much better flavor. The atmosphere is straight from the 50s, a time when people walked up to the window at a local ice cream "shack", ordered their treats & enjoyed them outside their friends & neighbors. There is no indoor dining area, concrete tables are outside. There are a couple of food offerings for those that need something besides sugary treats, but ice cream is the reason to go here. They have both soft serve (with some flavors) & dipped. Everything is good. Including the chocolate covered frozen bananas.

The ice cream here is delicious. Ive been here 3 times ( in the matter of a week) and Ive gotten the ice cream each time. However they do have a lot of other options including a chili dog (which was good). Im lucky work pulled me out of the city before I binged on their ice cream for much longer. The prices are fair. There is no inside seating (because there is no inside) so enjoy a nice day with Dairy Kastle. The workers are super friendly. You really cant go wrong here. A great Louisville staple.

Great desserts for a fraction of the national chains. Not only are the prices better, but so are the sizes. I can easily get by with a small or medium flurry/concrete. The friendly staff always has excellent suggestions of what to try. I am never disappointed when I ask for a suggestion. Beer prepared to stand in line if you visit after dinner. I typically wait 15-20 minutes in the evening, but the staff with serve everyone in line before the turn of the lights.

Dairy Kastle used to have pretty decent ice cream. The last few seasons I have gone only a couple of times because each time I go the ice cream is pretty tasteless. The soft serve has no flavor, the syrups too dont taste very good. The lines at Dairy Kastle are always enormous- this coupled with the lackluster taste is more than enough reason to pass it by. The Dairy Del on Shelby is much better- better flavor and no 30 minute wait.

The Greatest Ice Cream ever! I was over there for first time last weekend, I went kind of exceptic because I was expecting something not good or maybe a normal ice cream, but we have heard from the locals that Dairy Kastle has the best ice cream in Louisville, and for my surprise is a truly truth, we enjoyed and the staff is so friendly, the only pro for me is that they acepts only cash.

A local landmark, always a favorite. Expect to stand in line, and look for a parking space, but worth it, and line moves fast. You wont believe the selection for such a small eatery. Not just ice cream! One of the only places you can get cherry dipped cones. They even have a special dish for dogs. Low prices, fab service. Always super nice, no matter how busy they are.

OLDFASHIONED ...the kind of soft serve ice cream place from the 1950s and 60s..and I think the last of its kind in town. Beautiful weather...big mixture of people... I enjoyed talking with several strangers while we all waited in line. This is an example of the people of Louisville that I want the world to see...and oh yes...it was delicious.

We enjoy the stereotypical small town ice cream shop style, their quality ice cream options, the diverse crowd. We have never eaten food here, but would be willing to give it a try. The only reason not a 5 star would be the location is a little hectic and parking/line can be a pain if go at the wrong times...which we always do!

Old-fashioned ice cream and hot dog shop. Even with a change in management a few years ago, they have continued to serve delicious treats at very good prices. Large selection of shakes and ice cream based desserts. With a few savory snacks, including a vegan chili dog. Open spring through fall. Cash only.

this is not gourmet food by any stretch of the imagination, but its a great place to get cheap, tasty junk food. The food is cheap and part of the experience is going there on a summer night and taking in some of the neighborhood scene, theres a crowd there every night unless its raining.

Massive portions at miniscule prices. Employees are great, the atmosphere is casual, nested in the suburbs. Parking is tight, you can usually park at the church across the street. The ice cream was delicious. They even have ice cream for dogs. Next time Im in Louisville, Ill be back.

It is conveniently located, only seasonally available, and most often busy. The foods arent that much, if at all, better than DQ, but it has a local store charm and some quirky milkshake recipes. Youll have to eat and wait outside in line the whole time.

In the eternal battle between local soft-serve mavens Dairy Kastle and Dairy Del ... well, to be honest, Ive only tried Dairy Kastle. Its on a couple of my regular ride routes, and makes a fine treat after a hot, fast training ride.

Ive been coming to this place for years and this is one of my top ice cream places in Louisville. There is typically a line, especially on the weekends of hot days. Always had great service and the staff has always been friendly.

My favorite place to take my boys. Super low price for great desserts and food. It feels like it has always been there. Decades of nostalgia and comfort food. Did I mention taco-in-a-bag? Cause you need a taco-in-a-bag.

Love this place, the people are incredibly friendly, the service is great. The hotdog with sauerkraut and onion was very tasty. We got food and drinks for 3 people for $10, I highly recommend this place!!

I love the cherry or strawberry shake made with chocolate ice cream, absolutely deliscious. Always a fun place to visit. They have a big water bowl for dogs and you can order special treats made for them.

Lines during peak hours can be long, but at the right times theres hardly a wait. Havent had an item on the menu that Ive disliked. Been there countless times never had a bad experience.

Awesome local ice cream shop! Great selection of soft serve, dipped cones and shakes. Only problem is its a very popular place on a nice sunny evening, so expect to wait in a long line.

Excellent little landmark only open half year but such a simple way to provide a great icecream experience! You gotta try it. Plus it donates to the kids that work there for education!
