They have great portions, but all of the meat has no rub or smoke flavor at all. I have eaten at roughly 70%-80% of the BBQ restaurants in KC (I love BBQ) and wanted to try Big Q because I had not been there, I was disappointed. I ordered a two meat sandwich with beans and a side rib. The beef was moist and tender, but there was no smoke flavor. The pork was grey (I thought it was the beef initially) and it also had no smoke ring or rub flavor in it. The rib was solid, tender and a lot of meat on it, but again, not much smoke flavor and no rub. The beans tasted good, but they tasted like they had come from a can and had some spices and beef added. I tried to doctor the meat with the sauce, but the sauce had no flavor either, tasted like runny ketchup. I hate leaving terrible reviews, but if you like Joes KC, Jack Stack, etc you will likely not have a good experience here. If you are driving by here and want bbq, drive a mile or so and go to Woodyard. Maybe I had a bad experience, there are other good reviews out there, but Im not willing to try going back. The service was great and the place was clean, I just did not enjoy the food. They were almost empty at 12pm as well, 4 other people were in the restaurant over a 20 minute window.

Really dont want to give this review-give up hidden secret! Hosted 2 food critics in town recently that know BBQ in all areas of country, and rated this excellent. Burnt ends trimmed of fat-best tried yet, meat is smoky and seasoned. 2 sauces for sweet or spicy tastes. All sides great and big portions! Slaw is creamy, not too sweet, beans are smoky with meat bits, all types of fries were hot and fresh-steak fries, waffle, seasoned, etc. BEST onion rings-crispy panko crust, versus oily battered, etc. Plus, if not sold out already for themselves as take-out by the whole, great deserts!!! LOVE the pies, big carrot cake squares.!! Highly recommend the burnt end brisket dinner with 2 sides for under 12.00 dollars, and will have leftover for lunch tomorrow! Excellent service for a small place-very accommodating, no long waits like Oklahoma Joes. Can seat yourself, or order at counter. 10-15 minute wait? Also, we call in and always ready according to time to travel from Johnson County. Small clean place. Granite table tops, sun room/glass front. Outside dining area, big t.v.s for games, etc.. I KNOW I am going to regret sharing this post!

We stopped here just to try something new on our way back from Kansas City from just doing a quick Google search to try a local bbq restaurant and at first thought it was gonna be a mistake by the appearance. The restrooms are far from ideal and the building has seen better days but, the food exceeded way beyond what we could have imagined. A little pricy for a hole in the wall place but the taste and portions made up for it. My son and I were able to split a half rack of large meaty ribs and 2 small orders of fries plus had enough to take home for another meal. My boyfriend had a pulled pork sandwich that was large enough to take home for a snack as well plus baked beans and hes a big guy, so the price works out in the end. Plus, if you go on a Wed or a Sun (like we did) the ribs that we ordered are cheaper. So if you are passing through Kansas City and want KC styled bbq Id recommend this little hole in the wall off the beaten path to fill up on for the ride home, just grab plenty of napkins.

Our favorite KC BBQ place for 35 plus years was Quicks 7th Street BBQ. When they closed up a few years ago, we thought that was the end of our favorite place to eat. My husband and I tried numerous bbq joints in KC after they closed , but none compared. THEN, I found out the owners son had a place called Big Q BBQ! Yesterday for the first time I tried them out and I have to say, " Like father, like son!" Oh how I missed the homemade bbq sauce of theirs, to the point I bought 2 bottles to bring home! My sandwich was just as I remember it, steak fries, beans, ahhhhhh. Makes me want to make another trip from St Joe down there again tonight! Thank you Quick family for your bbq skills in making the Hughes family happy once again! Super friendly staff also!

Its out of the way and not much to look at, but the food was amazing and the service was friendly. The spicy fries werent spicy, more accurately "seasoned" and they were so good. The bbq chicken was fabulous and dinners are served with Roma bread-so much better than the plain old white sandwich bread most places throw on the plate. I cant wait to go back!

Shamed to say I have lived close to this place my entire life and never once at there until today. Best Ribs i have tasted since Quicks BBQ closed down. I dont know if there is any relation between the two but they had the same texture feel and taste as the old Quicks. Looking forward to going back on Sundays this fall for their Rib special.

Well, Ive pretty much tried all the Barbecue Kansas City has to offer and this just happens to be the one that I think is the best. Theyre burnt end platter ,oh my god with the waffle fries and the and the beans I could eat it every night. Plus is a good value.

The BBQ is smothered in their sauce and it overpowers the flavor of the meat. I prefer the smoked meat come out bare and you add the amount of sauce to taste. The sides are really good; however.

Best BBQ in town!!! Excellent service from waitress Jennifer. Love the seasonal soups and the new loaded baked potato! If you love carnival food The Big Q has the best fried pickles ever.

Very good barbecue here, prepared perfectly. Make sure you try the sliced hot pickle, fried mushrooms and sweet or regular fries as sides. Youll be glad you did...really good bbq.

BBQ was delicious, the potatoes stuffed with burnt ends is big enough for 2.the sandwiches are stacked tall and full, sauce was quite tasty, liked the spicy, great desserts!

Been to multiple Bbq restaurants and still consider Big Qs ribs to be the best in the KC area. I highly recommend the Rib dinner.

Good BBQ. A bit uncomfortable to eat in the restaurant but they do orders to go also.
