Shopping nearby, lured in by the smell of smoky barbeque. Had never eaten here before, so asked waitress for most popular entre. She said "burnt ends, and ribs" so I placed my order with slaw, fries, and a side of baked beans. Meal arrived, burnt ends were very fatty, tasted like stringy roast beef with just as much fat as meat, cover in sauce. Ribs, werent any better, very fatty, had to pick at the meat to avoid a mouthful of fat. Fries were your standard frozen / fried "Applebees" type of fries. I like rustic cut, twice cooked. As if the quality of the meat wasnt enough, the baked beans had a slight "sour milk" after taste to them. Like something got mixed in by accident? I picked at the ribs a little, then told the waitress that I wasnt happy with the meal. She promptly had the manager come over. I showed him the meat (fat), and he apologized and suggested it was the way the cooks cut the meat. I told him it was more likely the quality of meat he was buying. I also told him about the beans. I dont pay for poor quality food. He said he wouldnt charge me for the meal which was $15.99. Now I dont mind paying for QUALITY food, heck you can charge a premium, But, there is no excuse for serving such fatty meat and passing it off as barbeque. That was my first time to try this restaurant, and unfortunately I wont be coming back. I think some of the rave reviews here are set up!?

I placed an order for pick up. The person who took my order was great. When I picked up the food the interior felt like a casual sit down place and looked nothing like a BBQ place that Ive been to. (The whole bench and oak table style, mixed with a pub feeling). So the decor gets a "good" rating, as it surprised me. Food - I ordered the burnt ends, with sauce on the side with their sausage. The polish sausage tasted as expected -but nothing outstanding. The burnt ends were dryer than I had expected (this was probably my fault as I asked for sauce on the side), but still consumable. The sides I ordered were Sweet potato fries and cheese corn, with an additional side of steamed veggies. The sides were probably the best out of the dish. The fries were delicious, the cheese corn was delicious, and the veggies paired well with the platter. Again the customer service was better than the food over all, but if youre going to eat here...I suggest the sides over the main attractions - ha.

so i ordered the family gathering which consists of beef, pork, ham and pork spare ribs . they said it would feed a family of two to three. well first thing does it count as a family if its just you and your girl??, so anyways it was a stretch to feed two, three not a chance! and the price didnt equal the amount and the quality of food. this was my cheat day i wanted to enjoy it! but that didnt happen. this is what u got for 32.00 dollars plus 6.50 on top of the 32.00 for a larger amount of beans. 5 spare ribs, 3 slices of brisket,3 slices of ham, and 3 slices of some other pork. two pieces of bread and fries. now if Im wrong i wouldnt consider this a family gathering. and the bbq wasnt that great as well. so far my time in kansas city, mo i would choose joes bbq.

I stopped by for a quick lunch. Had the BIG Crispy - chopped burnt ends on a toasted hoagie bun w/ fries & baked beans. The sandwich was very good. Even though the meat was chopped, it still had that perfect balance of moist, tender beef & crispy, burnt bits we all love & EXPECT from burnt ends. The beans were above average & the fries were your typical, frozen from a bag but the good. Went great w/ a KC Bier Co Dunkel! And their spicy bbq sauce was the way to go. Not too spicy, but just the right amount of kick w/ that thick, sweet KC bbq sauce we all love! Heather the bartender gave excellent service & just moved here from Michigan. So sit in the bar & give here some Midwestern love! Ill be back!

Wow, great BBQ. I was traveling for a family trip, and saw the sign off the highway. I was always told that KC had great BBQ. what i was told was right KC does have some great bbq. This place had some of the best burnt ends i have ever had. I also loved the baby back ribs. The meal came with two sides i chose beans and coleslaw. Each were great, but the beans were out of this world. I have had bbq from a few different states, but this one was one of my favorite.

Wish there was a little more variety of BBQd meats but love the stuff they have. The sauce isnt as sweet as other places and the coleslaw is definitely not as sweet and neither are the beans (which might be great for diabetics or folks watching their sugar intake). I get take-out often and theyre fast/friendly getting the order ready. Oh, try their smoked turkey at Thanksgiving! If you want that nasty, sweet, sweet, sweet stuff, go somewhere else.

In my opinion this is the best BBQ restaurant in Kansas City. They are always consistent. The baby back ribs and burnt ends that we always get are always moist and tender. Other bbq restaurants I have eaten at can be hit-or-miss . sometimes the ribs are delicious and other times they are tough as shoe leather...Smokehouse is always delicious. I have been eating there for at least 6 years. Ok

I ordered a whole slab of ribs the menu doesnt say that a whole slab is two individual ribs felt ripped off asked whats up was told since the ribs are so thick thats what they call a whole slab. WHAT??? Two individual ribs???? They should change the menu and quit ripping people off. $28.95 for a two rib platter they call a whole slab????? I guess they dont rely on repeat business.

In my opinion this is the best barbeque in the Kansas City metro. Dont know why the food network always passes this place up. The meats are all delicious. They have by far the best beans, coleslaw, and potato salad of all the barbeque joints in town. The service is adequate, and the restaurant is attractive. All in all a great choice if you love great barbeque.

Saturday 1/18/14 our group of 25 Parrot Heads phlocked to the Independence MO Smokehouse before the Missouri Mavericks hockey game. We had made reservations and they were able to accommodate a few additional people. The service was prompt, the food was great and I think theyve gained some new customers. Bravo to the staff for a job well done!

Got drunk last night, all I woke up to was a text from a random number saying to go to this place. I responded to the text after the meal with a very heartfelt thank you. This was maybeee the best BBQ Ive ever had. Everything on the table Im from Boston so I might be overthrowing, but my taste buds and tear ducts dont lie.

Little blend and gave smaller portions. I was told gates bbq was better and I didnt listen. Kinda of disappointed. The service was great but being our first time, she didnt give us enough time to decide. I told her 3 minutes, she came back in 1.5 min. That bothered me. I Felt rushed. Meat tough. Bbq sauce wasnt sweet enough.
