Well, Burnt Ends bbq was slightly above average but definitely NOT great. There is only one location & its locally owned. But it is obvious to my trained eyes (Ive worked in the restaurant biz for nearly 25 years) that they are hoping to franchise this place. There were 5 different sauces that all tasted like a slightly different version of store bought KC Masterpiece and were not very distinguishable. In fact we all agreed the best sauce we had was the honey dipping sauce served with the fried pickles. The meats were all equally good with the chicken & burnt ends being the highlights, both being moist, tender and flavorfull. The burnt ends were a bit fatty. The spare ribs were pretty scrawny and a slightly greasy, but for $14 per rack what would you expect, lol. The sides were forgettable unfortunately. With so many great bbq joints in KC i will probably not be coming back. It was a bit confusing that this is NOT a full service restaurant, but they gave mixed sigmals on tipping. Like the HUGE tip jar at the cash register, tip line on the credit card slip. Also the fact that the meals were not served on throwaway plates but instead on chinawear that had to be cleared by an employee which made me want to tip. But we had to get our own drinks from the drink fountain, lol. We did leave a tip as the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. But Burnt Ends suffers from a bit of an identity crisis in my opinion. I know this review might seem harsh, but in a town known for World Class bbq, you better bring your A game and expect highly critical reviews!

My experience wasnt too great. I feel the service at this restaurant could do for some better training. Not that theyre rude, just kind of unorganized. I went in yesterday for lunch, and the woman who was to be at the register just didnt seem all there. I ordered a burger and fries, and when I received it it had cheese. I dont care for cheese, so I mentioned it to the server who asked "did you want me to take it back?" Maybe Im being nit-picky, but I would think that would be obvious. Well, I didnt have time to wait for a remade meal, so I asked for a refund. The woman who took my order returns, trying to say they dont give refunds and also asking if I had gotten my food, which I think was, again, something that should be obvious. She also wanted to state that the burger does include cheese, and its written on the menu, but after further inspection, it says that the burger includes "Pickle, onion, lettuce" and underneath the burger selection it says "Choose a cheese", so either way, I feel she dropped the ball, since she didnt even ask if I wanted cheese. The charge was on my card, and I was given my refund, however Im still waiting for the charge to be taken off of my account. I know it sounds petty, but my issue isnt so much how the food came out, but the way the servers acted towards the situation. Maybe later on theyll get better, I mean it is a new establishment, but until then Id just as soon steer clear of them

Its between a 3 and 4, being closer to a 3. I tried 5 of the sauces, including both that won awards, the fire, and anything with some heat. All of them, minus the heat, tasted similar but with varying degrees of spice (except the honey one, which tasted like a standard BBQ sauce but sweet). The fire was disgusting on pulled pork, but I see it being a fantastic wing sauce for the spice lovers out there (Ill be back). Joes "night of the living" sauce sets the standard for spice, while retaining that flavor that is stereotypical for KC area BBQ. The sides were forgettable (I had mac and cheese, and cheesy corn). If you want sides, go to Jack Stack in my opinion. The pulled work was pretty decent, as were the burnt ends. Im not going to put either in my personal "best of" category, but they arent bad. The ribs werent anything special, and I wont try them again. Meat a 3.5 (ribs dinged it), sides 2, sauces 3. Ill try this place again, especially for that fire sauce on the wings (note: try the fire sauce out on the south wall before you order something with it, it packs a solid habanero kick).

I went there over the weekend. I was excited to try a new place to eat. Until the young girl behind the counter was so rude, I cancelled my order before even signing the receipt. Ive worked in customer service as well as food industries before so I try to be as kind as possible because I know that it can be frustrating. I have never encountered some one as hateful as her. She told us that we need to get our food to go. After rolling her eyes and being so mean as we were ordering I told her she was being very rude. Her reply was, "youre rude". I said no thank you, just cancel our order. With her smirk and spiteful voice she said good, bye! I was in serious shock. So I took my family across the street to eat and made sure to tip our waitress extra. I cant speak for the food, but I have never NEVER been treated so badly by a complete stranger. This is the first time Ive ever made a review for a restaurant, but no deserves to be treated that way. I wont be back and I wont recommend it.

Im pretty picky where BBQ is concerned. A lot of peoples "favorites" havent always lived up to the hype. Living on the far East side of the KC metroplex, it takes some convincing for me to travel across town. THIS place is a shining exception! Found purely by chance on an NFM safari, we hit it just a little before closing time thinking"what the heck, give it a try" . The owner and staff are outstanding, cheerful, and truly want your meal to be good! I had one of their house concoctionso, a Burnt end bowl. Outstanding! Its a plate of their BBQ beans topped with sweet corn bread, smothered in fried onion straws surrounded by moist, juicy, burnt end chunks, with a light drizzle of spicy sweet sauce! Ive been back twice now and cant get past the bowl to try their other items ( however the wife raved about the "chopped" special sandwich. Judging from the crowds, Id say the rest of the menu is a hit also!

I feel the prices for the quality of food were too high. when i first came in, the place appeared to be clean. the staff was courteous and friendly, but that is all i can say that was positive. when you go out to eat there are expectations, especially when it comes to BBQ in Kansas city. i expect my food to be warm, (if not hot), and the flavor should be mouthwatering, of which i had neither. i feel that if you are going to charge these over-inflated prices it should at least live up to what you are paying for. the portions were small, and i mean small. the food was mediocre at best. if you have a restaurant named, "Burnt Ends," I envision a plate of delicious, mouth-watering food that makes you want to come back. Instead, i get a plate of food, and a i use the word plate loosely, a portion of food that is substandard and the flavor that needs to be adjusted.
