After being in Iowa City for a year and driving past this place I finally decided to check it out. After reading some of the reviews I was pretty excited. The place itself is pretty decent inside with an English pub vibe to it. It was a sunday at 12 so fairly busy but not packed. I ordered a 12" thin crust with canadian bacon and pinapple. After sitting for a really long time I watched as other patrons finished and left. My mother finally asked one of the waitresses if it would be much longer. The waitress had a bit of attitude and said "it hasnt been that long, they have to roll out the dough and cook it." Umm ok.... So it finally came out and I have to say I was not in the least bit impressed. The crust was bland and almost frozen pizza like and the toppings werent anything special either. Im not saying it was really bad, just nothing to write home about. Heck, Ive MADE better pizza myself at home. Maybe I should have ordered a different style? I dont know, but based on what I had and the experience, Ill go elsewhere. Maybe Caseys?

We have been to this location several times. Typically the service is fair to good. We have had a less than optimal experience the last couple times. The waitress was fairly friendly. Seems the management is non existent. Cannot tell if anyone is actually in charge. We had full glass of soda spilled on plate on one occasion and then the next time we came a piece of the pizza was dropped on the floor after hitting my leg and foot. No staff checked back to the table til it was to pack up leftovers. NO attempt was made to make any service recovery on either account until asked. Then a coupon for a free onion ring/ cheese fries with purchase of large pizza. She asked if that was enough compensation. I requested a portion of our bill adjusted and it was given 20%. I was satisfied with this. I understand accidents happen but the way one handles the situation is what really matters. If I did not really like the Flying Tomato pizza I would probably not return.

I lived in Chicago for three years, and anyone from Chicago will tell you that Giordanos is the quintessence of Chicago-style pizza. So when I went to The Wig & Pen in Iowa City, Iowa, I was floored to discover that their Chicago-style is similar to--but better than--Giordanos. After the Flood of 2008 took out that location I was excited to see that the owners put another in Ankeny, and Im happy to report that its all that the other location was and more! The atmosphere is open and inviting, with plenty of seating, the decor is homey (for a strip mall location), and the service is always good. Best of all, the cuisine is excellent!

The pizza is wonderful. The waitress was okay. We got there at 7:50 and the pizza got to the table about 9:20. Waaaaayyyyy to long to wait for food. The waitress tripped and 1/3 of one of three pizzas that we ordered slipped right off onto the floor. Guess what the manager did? She took off TWO of the ice teas that we had ordered. We spent over $100 at Wig and Pen and 1/3 of a pizza fell to the floor and they compensated us by taking off TWO ice teas. That is really too bad. It makes us not want to go back to Wig and Pen. Were not mad at the waitress. Accidents happen. Just not a real smart way to do business.

The Food is awesome and the service is fast. The only problem is that it dont matter how many people are in the place. It will take about 45mins to get your food after you order. Even if your the only ones in there. We try to go when there arent busy just so it dont take to long to get our food. which is still a 45min wait The Pizza is amazing cant stress that enough. This is why we come back. if the pizza was only good i dont think we would ever go back because of the long wait for your food. Long wait... Pizza is great have to try it!

This was a great pizza place. I ordered a thin crust medium cheese pizza and after an hour I got cardboard. I dont get it, the menu brags about the sauce but its like they spread it on like butter. The crust absorbs most of the sauce and youre left with a very dry pizza. And what happened to all the cheese they use to put on the pizza? Frozen pizzas come with more cheese! Honestly a Digiorno pizza is better than a Wig & Pen pizza. This is the third time ive been disappointed so I wont be back.

My husband and I have eaten here several times. Weve always had a pleasant meal and good food. This last year we lived near Iowa City and had a chance to go to the Wig and Pen there. I think Ankeny would really enjoy the type of atmosphere found in the IC one. For a long time we didnt even think the two were owned by the same person because they looked so different. The IC one has a lot of character, which is neat compared to a lot of the restaurants around today.

Dinner for 5 and we found the atmosphere and the waitress (Rikki) pleasant. Ordered 2 pizzas and 2 tenderloins and some appetizers. The onion rings were good but could stand to be a bit thicker. The rest of the food was good sports bar/ pizza joint good. I was surprised and disappointed it took 40 minutes AFTER the appetizers to get the tenderloins and pizza. Oh well !

Best pizza youll find in Iowa, and comparable to some of the best in Chicago (Ginos East, Giordanos, Malnatis). Yes, youll have a long wait time as you would with any pizza of this caliber at the previously mentioned Chicago pizzerias, this isnt Pizza Hut. I recommend the Flying Tomato, but the Chicago Style is excellent also.

This is excellent Chicago-style pizza, a pretty good beer selection, and we had excellent service. If I remembered our waitress name, Id tell you to ask for her. If youre familiar with Chicago-style pizza, you know it takes extra time to cook but its well worth the wait. Chicago-style pizza this good is not easy to find.

Definitely the best pizza in Iowa along with Zipps in Adair. A 45+ minute wait is to be expected with this kind of pizza so be ready for that but its definitely worth the wait.. if you live in Ankeny Id recommend calling ahead or ordering carry out.

Had a surprise birthday party there last night. Brooke was so great to work with and they had everything set up. Also offered to help with the decorations. Service was great and so was the food. I would definitely use them again.

A friend and I needed to get some food and our regular place was closed. Looking around, we found out the Wig and Pen was still open and decided to give it a shot. Very glad we did! Our server was great, and the food was tasty.

I had carry out. The pizza was excellent. Sadly I found to long hairs while I was eating the pizza. I called to say I did not want anything just thought they needed to know. The response was almost like oh well.
