Not very good at all. My order was mostly Luke warm and full of canned cheese and cheap Turkey and some white sauce with a couple pieces of heat-n-serve bacon on top. I didnt understand that and it tasted ok. Whats odd about the place is when you walk in you dont smell...food cooking...or hear it. How is the food being prepared in the back? On to other dishes...My son got grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup looked and tasted like Prego spaghetti sauce. My daughter got french bread pizza and it was too limp to pick up as the bread wasnt toasted enough. Granted it looked attractive. The rest of the family got hamburgers that were pretty good sized but looked...weird. It looked like it had been warmed up in an oven like the food you get at high school. All in all, it was a poor affair and very disappointing. Our waitress was good though.

The Downtowner was pretty rough: we ordered a spinach wrap and a garden salad. The salad came with a package of salad dressing...? I have never encountered this before. The salad was mostly iceberg lettuce with grated cheese on it. Ive never seen a salad with so much cheese and lettuce and no other vegetables! The wrap had an odd sauce - at first, I liked it, but as I ate, it tasted less and less appealing. The wrap also came with a small bag of Lays potato plain chips. Lastly, they served water in massive styrofoam cups with lids and straws. We sat in to eat and werent sure why we got our water in styrofoam cups rather than glasses. Both myself and the other person that was with me got stomach aches shortly after eating there... Not impressed.

I grew up in Madison and go back quite often to visit family. The Downtowner is by far the best restaurant in town. I currently live in a Northern suburb of Indianapolis and would say that the Downtowner is by far better than similar restaurants where I live. They have excellent sandwiches and pizzas. The giant cookies are also the perfect way to top off your meal. If your in Madison and are looking for a place to eat, you have to try the Downtowner. You wont be disappointed!

I ordered the Downtowner Hot Brown. The menu indicated that it was a sandwich, but that is not the case. Its a few crouton-sized pieces of bread (supposedly sourdough) covered with turkey that seemed worse than what youd get at Subway and a puddle of "cheese" sauce. Also, there was about a quarter cup of fake Parmesan cheese on top. The server was quite friendly and efficient, though.

Get the tex mex beef sandwich its good! Just recently moved here, and everyone that comes to visit we take them to eat here! The bread for the sandwiches is amazing. Ive only had maybe 4 things off the menu cause i try to stick to the tex mex sandwich but everything i have had as been very good! Also their huge cookies are good! The sugar cookie is my fav!

The Italian Turkey Pesto Focaccia sandwich had to have been the best sandwich I have ever had. It was absolutely delicious. I grew up in Milton, KY, right across from the river from Madison and we were there visiting and it was suggested to go to the Downtowner for lunch. After eating this sandwich, I wish we lived closer.

Expensive for what they serve, which seems like a lot of frozen and/or commercially produced institutional style bits purchased at GFS. The 2 of us spent nearly $30 on a meal that would have cost us no more than $10 to out together from the grocery. Menu mix is unimaginative and tired.

Terrible serivice. Girls bad mouthed other employees for the first 5 minutes I was there before they got my drink order. I sat for about 15 minutes waiting on my drink and I finally just left. There was ONE other table in the building.

We live in Indianapolis, but have a second home in Madison. I never go to Madison without eating there at least once - usually more often. The salads are super fresh and the breads, soups, and the cookies are wonderful.

Decent food; however, pretty rich price wise for a deli sandwiches, chips, and pickle. Sides are overpriced and should be lower when adding it to a meal. Decent customer service, very loud due to the high ceilings.

My boyfriend and I come here every visit to Madison! Friendly staff and wonderful food in a casual environment. I recommend the hot brown and loaded potato soup! My boyfriend recommends the classic pizza.

A great place to get lunch, relatively well managed and clean. The service can be a bit shoddy every now and then but its usually just fine. Try the club and get a cookie on your way out.

Not an enjoyable meal. Staff is friendly, but cleanliness is not a priority with this restaurant. Food was mediocre in a nonexistent decor. Better choices can be found.

This wrap is by far the best wrap I have ever eaten. Two keys ingredients, the spices on the chicken and the basil pesto mayonaisse. Do not miss this one.
