I have a few problems with the Subway business model that applies to all locations I have been. First though, this location has a few pluses. A positive is the location inside of Walmart which is convenient if you are shopping there, but not so much if you just want a sub. However, there are several locations (some with Drive thrus which can be a plus) to where it is a wash (good and bad, but locations for whichever you need). They also sell soft Pretzels, so that is a plus compared to some locations. Negatives that seem to apply to all Subway locations: 1. The way the sandwiches have been cut during the past 10 years or so is not nearly as good as the old way (at least for certain sandwiches). The meatball sub in particular was better with the old cut as the meatballs and sauce were less likely to fall / drip out. For those who dont know the difference, they now cut straight across, parallel with the table, I suppose this is easier to do, easier for the newbies to do, I suppose, and faster. The old way showed more pride in the sandwich, in my opinion. I have read that some employees will still cut this way (if they know how), if you as, but I have never thought to try. The old way was cut on top and made more of a tunnel to keep the meatballs and sauce in. I suppose this would also apply to sandwiches with lots of dressing or toppings, but I dont eat those. It is meatball or turkey, bacon. 2. Another negative is having the cheese and other things out in the open. Some meats are covered with wax paper, so they are protected, but I have witnessed flies landing on the cheese (for one) or on the sandwich if the store is busy and the sandwich is prepared, but waiting for the toppings to be added. I had to reject a sandwich here and have it remade because a fly landed on it while I was waiting. Flies can carry all sorts of diseases. I think the Walmart locations are worse about this since there is so much more traffic and doors opened during the day. This one is probably in the worst place as it is right by the door. The west side is to some degree, but at least seems to me to be placed a bit differently and might not be as bad with this. 3. The third thing that I think was a corporate change (although I am not sure) is their cutting the bread after the sandwich is finished. I suppose this is another speed thing. If you happen to be following someone who had a sandwich with lots of toppings and dressings, and you dont like or are allergic to them, you are in trouble lots of times. They use the same knife and I have seen them not wipe them off first. Even wiping off doesnt suffice like washing them or using a fresh knife would. However, I can see how they couldnt do that, which is why cutting first should be done (even though it takes longer). I think staff will do so if you ask, but I havent tried for a while. The food itself is good although I feel a bit overpriced. They do less specials than they did. A meatball subs price isnt bad, but some of the meats seem to be overpriced for lunch meat. I suppose those who gets lots of toppings get more value than those like me who do not.
