Yen Ching, particularly the E. Washington address, is an Indy institution. Either location delivers, but the original "hole-in-the-wall" location on Washington will always remain my husbands and my favorite. We have long since moved to Florida, but whenever were back in our old stomping grounds, we go out of our way for a dinner at Yen Ching on Washington. 20 years or more, tens of thousands of miles, and we still count on less than one hand the number of Chinese restaurants that stack up to Yen Ching. We have never found a Hot and Sour soup that compares. Nor a Genl Tso, nor a Mu-Shu or a number of other menu staples. Go! You will be oh-so glad you did.

Ask any local Chinese person where theyd eat out in Indy. Id be surprised if they dont pick this restaurant or the other location on nw side. Authentic food, you have to try Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, empress chicken. All of these are American kid taste pallet friendly and amazingly good. Less greasy than other places, with great recipes. Quality of dishes, they could easily charge PF Chang prices but they keep it low key, havent dined inside the location since I was a kid, but like most of their customers I call in take out once a week. You know a chinese restaurant is good when they have a line for togo people for dinner everyday.

Probably my favorite restaurant ever. Just a little whole in the wall restraunt. No fancy decor or fancy anything really. My dad and uncle have been eating here for 30 years and say nothing has changed. Same owner who knows them personally. The hot and sour soup and pot stickers are the best things Ive ever eaten. Also love the garlic chicken, broccoli beef and broccoli shrimp. Ask them to make it spicy if you like spicy food! You cant make a mistake with what you order and you wont regret going!

My wife and I tried this place on a recommendation. We will NEVER eat here again, we both got food poisoning from the not so good food here. Not only did the food taste like crap the portions are small especially for the price. We paid almost $40 for 2 entrees and chicken lo-mein. Their prices are high and their food sucks. Especially since we are trying to recover from food poisoning because of this place. I would strongly recommend against this establishment.

Local Chinese Restaurant, they work very hard to have the best food possible, and it is a bargain! Go and try it, you will find it to be the best. Just like at home, sometime wonderful, but always good. And they have done it for more than 30 years! I love their "Hot-and-sour" soup. and their chicken and shrimp dishes. The lunches are the best deals around, anywhere, but go before 2pm as they close till 4pm when they start serving dinner.

Delicious. Food is incredible, wait staff (although slow sometimes) is very friendly. Pot stickers are to die for, and the princess chicken (unusual combination of sweet yet hot) is one of the best chicken dishes Ive had ever. A small little place, definitely mom & pop. I agree with another commenter who said its the best Chinese food on the east side. We always look forward to making Yen Ching visits when were on this side of town.

We found this place a couple months back and have enjoyed the food all 3 times weve gone. It reminds me of the Chinese restaurants my parents would take us to in the 80s and today while waiting for a table I figured out why, they have multiple awards posted from the 80s. The food is good and the man I am assuming might be the owner is fantastic.

Probably one of the more astonishingly rude encounters Id had in a while. While the duck was spectacular, and worthy of praise, the service was not. The waitress was impatient and rather huffy about our choices. Then she had the audacity to demand I pay a larger tip when I paid for the meal. Needless to say, Im never going to return.

This has been my favorite chinese joint for 25+ years. The people and the food are so good. The sunday buffet is one of the best. Not your typical Chinese buffet, fewer items, but what they do have is so good. I drive 30 minutes passing many other Chinese restaurants to eat here.

Always the best foods. Garlic chicken, egg rolls, crab ragoons the tastiest anywhere & I have traveled a lot of cities. James and staff are friendly & most attentive. Good prices especially week day lunch. Super Mai Tai too. My favorite restaurant.

Most disgusting Chinese I have EVER had... The server was so rude then when I paid my bill had the nerve to ask for a tip... I have NEVER not tipped before but I did today and told her she was super rude then expect a tip... NASTY!!!!

This has been one of my absolute favorites for years. I especially like their pot stickers and their hot and sour soup. This is a small family run restaurant and dont expect anything fancy. But the food is always exceptional.

Ordered S&S Chicken with fried rice. Chicken was DEFINITELY Re fried and dried up inside. Fried rice was white rice with peas and a bit of scrambled egg and COLD. Very disappointing. Not even a good value for the $$.

I have been dining here since I was a child. James and staff are like family. The best in Indy!!! Sizziling rice soup, pot-stickers, garlic chicken, Mongolian beef, & happy family are a few of our favorites!

Disappointing carryout. Both entrees were very dry (pork, chicken). Also, the "hot" hot braised pork had no heat whatsoever. Weve had better in the past so I hope this is an anomaly and not the new normal.

Same order every time, I guess ugly and mean makes the food different, wasnt as good, rooting for sweet man that is usually there and happy!!!! Elder abuse???
