My and husband and I had dinner here tonight and i have to say the customer service here was terrible. We first got there and sat down for 10 minutes before we were even given a menu (there was only one other table of customers in the restaurant). We had to ask for a menu and the waiter said he would get one. I watched as he just walked behind the counter and was chating with his co workers . We waited another 5 minutes. I watched in disbelief because he was doing absolutley nothing. We finally got our menu and we were given water. I asked for a straw and again just waited and watched him do nothing. My husband finally got up walked to the counter and got me a straw. After this I watched the guy who i believe was the owner tell off the customers at table next to us about them not telling them how they wanted their bread cooked before hand. He told them he wasted 3 pieces of bread because they didnt like the way it was made. He spoke to them in the most condescending way as me and my husband watched. His behavior was appaling. He was clearly embrassed and felt the need to explain himself before we left. He said they were professionals and those people are regulars who are always complain. I defintley didnt hear those customers say anything wrong he was completley out of line and unprofessional. The food was decent but i have no plans to return after receiving such poor service and witnessing them disrespect another group of customers.

This is my go-to place for Indian lunch buffet. The food is delicious, the wait staff is attentive and nice, and the you leave full and content from your Indian fix. It seems family owned and operated with a good atmosphere. Take-out is dead simple and they adjust their spice level ("American spicy or Indian spicy"). Their Chicken Tikka Masala is good and the sauce is on point over rice or, well, over everything. They always have this chicken dish next to the tikka masala, some type of roasted marinated chicken, that is absolutely mouth-watering; I have it every single time. Theres a lot of veggie options that I loved, and thats coming from a carnivore. Minimal salad bar but quite refreshing after putting their spicy sauces over all my sides. Do ask for their yogurt sauce, which is not part of the buffet, because it makes everything tastier.

Great food, great service, moderate portion size. :) One of the three dishes ordered (we ordered Lamb Curry, Lamb Balti, and Lamb Biryani), the Biryani, was a quite salty, but everything else was awesome. The garlic naan was very good, too (if you like garlic); we had the lamb and paneer (cheese and cilantro) naan as well, which were both good, too. We ordered the Vegetable Platter appetizer (the Alu Tikkis were awesome with the green mint-cilantro-garlic chutne mix on them, and by themselves). The sizes were decent (I like large portions, but our dishes had rice on the side, and ordering the naan bread made it much more interesting). It was more expensive than I like, but a great experience, though. :)

I live nearly an hour away, but when I have business in the Indianapolis area I always make a point to come to Amber Indian Restaurant. In fact I am coming today to enjoy the buffet! The staff are really friendly and always keep my drink refilled and even acknowledge my small son. They seem to be a kid friendly place. I really enjoy the variety on the buffet and think the food is tasty. The price is comparable to other Indian food buffets and other menu items are fairly priced as well. I have also gotten carry out here numerous times and they are fast and I am always pleased with the food. The portions for carry out are generous enough to make several meals for me. I would recommend it!

I came to this place after an 8 hour long drive starving for some food, so technically anything would have tasted nice, but this place still somehow managed to disappoint me. This is a horrible place to have Indian food. I am a biryani lover so, I obviously ordered for the amber special Biryani, which Basically tasted like turmeric rice. Even the other dishes that we had ordered were sweet, Instead of being tangy and salty. And of course our complains about the flavors were replied with a simple statement of "we have never had any complains about it before and this is how we make it here" instead of just apologizing for it.

The food was AMAZING, but that was it. We came in last night because of the reviews, we are from ohio and are still trying the "new to us" places. Service started out OK, but turned the further we got into our meal. Water service for my husband stopped 20 mins prior to him being finished with his meal and our server barely acknowledge us other than ordering and paying.. if it had been busy I would be more understanding, but as it was 7PM on a Saturday and we were one of three tables I now see why it wasnt busy at all. again food was outstanding, order take out and save yourself the bad thoughts of bad service.

I was in Indianapolis for a month. I visited this restaurant few times as i had no option and it was near to my hotel where I was staying (Drury inn). First this about this restaurant is the staff here absolutely non friendly and I never saw a simple smile on anyones face. They stand near the billing counter and gossip a lot on the people visiting the restaurant. Now Ill to the food part, food is not as great as other Indian restaurant in Indy. Daal curry, Chole Masala and chicken khadai are good. And ya I liked the Garlic naan though.

On sep 7, 2015 I ordered panner butter masala for to go after my lunch buffet. At night, when i opened, I got chicken pieces with panner. Its glad that they give complimentary chicken with veg dishes, but it is good if they have given that to chicken eaters and that too separately. Or they may thought veggie eaters dont differentiate panner and chicken. This may be a mistake, but for Indian vegetarians that is not acceptable. Apart that taste of the food is good, if you dont mind in mixing chicken with vegetables.

This restaurant has changed owners and the new owner is inconsiderate and difficult to deal with. The restaurant had many open tables and I asked to sit at one of the larger open tables for myself and a guest. They wanted us to sit at a small table in the corner. When I asked for salad dressing which the previous owner provided this owner wanted to charge $2 for a small amount. I do not plan on a return visit and would not recommend this restaurant under its current ownership.

Whenever my wife and I dine here it is absolute treat! The staff is very helpful. Especially the young lady who always has the best recommendations. Recently, my wife and I were ordering take out at Taj and while we were waiting, this young lady brings out beverages for us. One was a traditional chilled Indian tea with ginger. She would have no idea that my wifes stomach was upset, but this delicious tea soothed her upset stomach. Proving again why we LOVE Taj of India!

Im not going to say Im an expert on authentic Indian food, but it is my favorite cuisine, and this is the best Indian food Ive had so far. Im from California, and have tried numerous restaurants in this state, and theres one in Huntington Beach that comes close, but doesnt top Ambers food. Ill definitely be eating here on any trip I take to Indianapolis. BTW, we didnt have the buffet, so I cant comment on that, but the dishes we ordered were fantastic.
