Pros- -food prices -fries -generous water cups -quality meats Cons- -lack of seasoning -floury batter on chicken -draft beer prices -bus-your-own format, with optimistic tipping suggestion via foursquare. The Mug could be a great restaurant for irvington, however, some items are plagued with tastelessness. The fried chicken, for example, has a floury breading so bland that it consumes and negates any flavor around it. The beef on the burgers also begs for seasoning. The restaurant needs to differentiate the Mugs food from what you can make on the stove at home. Many sandwiches collapse by bite 4 because of poor, soggy construction. The pork fries, garnished with slaw are certainly headed in the right direction. Prices are fair, with the exception of draft beers that rival or exceed entree prices. Outdoor seating provides an alternate and largely quieter option than the noisy insides, which suffer from the same open-seating/concrete/wood/glass conundrum that causes patrons in nearly every Indy restaurant to use their outside voice over dinner. In conclusion, while an aging crowd may approve of the flavorlessness that makes them nostalgic about the war, rations, etc., the gentrifying and youth-infused area will demand more flavor if the Mug is to be a must-stop location for lunch and dinner. Customers are searching for the irresistible these days, not the biggest portion.

Having visited during their opening week, I was impressed to see how well they handled lines out the door. The ordering process is very clear. You have a number of burger, chicken, and grilled cheese options. Pulled pork and cuban sandwiches are also available. Prices are very reasonable from less than $3 for a burger to $10 for a larger meal. Expected sides of fries and slaw are available, as well as different fries such as hand cut and sweet potato waffle fries. Beer, wine, and Sundaes ice cream are also available. By the way, Sundaes ice cream is possibly the best in state. Most, if not all, meat comes from Tyner Pond Farms. I have ordered from them several times and think they are one of the best sources of meat, especially grass fed or free range, around Indy. That difference alone makes this restaurant somewhat similar to a In and Out Burger on the West Coast or Shake Shack on the East. The space is very nice with a mix of booths, tables, and outdoor seating. Service was quick and courteous, especially when my meal was a little slow to come out. Overall, this is an excellent addition to Indy, especially on this side of town. Connected is a market that sells Tyner Ponds products, which I love. I would say this spot will be added to my lunch rotation.

I gave this place five chances .., first time was great and employees are very very friendly , got two burgers and onion rings and garlic fries,, garlic fries were soggy and saturated with oil onion rings were awesome ... Second third and fourth time I went there burgers were still good but the buns do not cover the burgers enough with the amount of portions they give you ,,, trying to get fries and onion rings again super super soggy decided not to order those anymore ,, also second third and fourth time had direct contact with the owner seemed like she was too busy to pay attention to the customers on her cell phone on her laptop, and honestly she wasnt very kind it all she was actually very rude last and final time of going there I set my girlfriend and to pick up just burgers cause we were done with the soggy fries and onion rings said that the owner was snooty snappy and rude to her too so we are done not going back again

Went on the 4th or 5th night they were open. The wait for food was 40 minutes after you ordered! The place was utter chaos with cooks yelling at servers, food sitting on the counter waiting to be delivered and delivered food being brought back to the kitchen due to mistakes. We left. Returned the next day for lunch. Calmer but still lots of yelling using clients name instead of table number. Breaded tenderloin was nice size, meaty, but breading continued to fall off the meat. Lettuce leaf was too small to recognize. Waitress asked kitchen for more & the one new leaf she embarrassingly brought me was barely larger. After paying for large root beer floats was told machine was broken. Clerk didnt know how to do credit refund on my card!! Finally got cash. Will not return. Basically a comedy of jokes! Not wortth it. # northsidecurious # toofar Two Disappointed

One star is for the delicious garlic fries. Those were fantastic. Service was slow, and I found a ladybug in my salad not once, but twice. I took up my first salad after I looked down and suddenly saw a ladybug crawling around. They apologized and brought me a new one. This time, I really mixed it up, just to be sure. Suddenly, halfway through eating it, I look down and again see a ladybug crawling around! I understand this is a Farm to Table restaurant, but bugs in salads, especially more than once is not okay. I took up the second salad and they asked if I wanted anything else. I said no. They apologized but did not offer a refund or any kind of compensation. I will not be back.

Had a nice dinner with my family the other night but it was ruined when the staff (not sure where it was coming from) started playing this disturbing screaming sounds. wouldnt call it music but i guess thats what kids want. plus the girl working the front counter let some guy in that smelled heavily like marijuana. they must have had the door locked before he got there but he had a mug shirt on to so he may have worked there but all he did was sit at the bar and talk to her. i dont come here often but they hired some strange people since the last time i was there. its all kids that work here so i could not tell a real manager at the time

This place is over rated over priced $$ and not worth the space their filling. After a recommendation to vist stating their Tenderloins and Home made Sloppy Joes were great, We tried both my Tenderloin was greasy, over cooked like it had been cooked twice and tough who searves that, the Sloppy Joe was no home made Joe, it was manwich! Their BLT is a three bread slice, five price bacon, hard tomatoe $$ sandwich. The Mug If you go will make you fell like you got "Mugged" try it or not there is better food in the area for the same $$. I would wait until new owners take over this place.

I dont know where the people saying Great food" have eaten before but apparently dumpster divers. This place sucks, the food taste like grease, coke machine broke down twice while we were there and not enough toppings to bother with. I took my sandwich back up and opened it and said "really, this is all the toppings you put on, looks nothing like the picture" they replied they were running low so stretching what they had. Asked for my money back and they told me they could not do that, so I walked out. pathetic, will never recommend and will damn sure never go back.

Really, you people giving good reviews must be paid to do so or have palettes so numbed by being drunk all the time you cant taste anything. Service blowed, loud very little parking, tried it because everyone in the neighborhood went on how good it was, well youre all retarded or something it was terrible, the sandwich looked like a bag of hammered a $ $ holes. Should have looked at it before I left (ordered to go) huge mistake would have never accepted such a mess as food, verses throwing it away I tried giving it to the neighbors dog, and he tried to bury it.
