I usually turn to Ami for my sushi desires (for their 30% off days and the free miso soup and salad) BUT with Ami closed for renovations, I went to check out Sushi Haru. Its true (like other reviewers noted) that it is more expensive than other places in town, however, there is a ton of really tasty sushi options here, and the staff is super nice. Its also very pleasant and relaxed -- a refreshing change of pace from the obnoxious college atmosphere of Japonee. I ordered the tempura shrimp appetizer (which was good but used pretty standard breading rather than tempura batter, which wasnt quite as good), the unagi nigiri (super fresh and really good), and the Forest Gump roll. Despite the funny name of that one, it was amazing. Its supposed to come baked but we asked for it unbaked and hot damn, that roll was one of the best rolls Ive had in years. Great texture, fresh fish, and just a really really tasty flavor that didnt overwhelm me. Anyway, definitely worth an eat!

I wanna give this place 4.5. Its expensive for bloomington standards, but its probably the best east Asian Ive had after living here for 3 years. Sushi was very good, as was my noodle dish and the vegetarian sushi was actually excellent. Most sushi places dont know how to make anything vegetarian. The decorations are amazing. Check out the shrine like thing with a statue of a marriage proposal, an indigenous American in a chair, a Christmas tree, west African art, and who knows what else. Bathrooms are clean and have magazines. Loved it. As an aside, no one got sick after eating sashimi and sushi, with four of us, and one of us having never eaten raw fish. Very pleased and happy. Price was up there, but expected for sushi and four people. Dont expect decent tea, like at ami, though. It was just a tea bag... But who goes for the tea at a sushi place anyway?

Im a huge sushi fanatic. Ive been to sushi places all over the country. This place right here in bloomington is the best place Ive been to. Im a vegetarian so my options are always limited but this place allowed me to just keep the meat off any roll and it still tastes unbelievable. Im sorry for posting a picture of already eaten food but I had to share this. Come here. Service is also super fantastic. Thats a deep fried mushroom in the furthest plate and yes those are fries on that sushi plate cause the roll was a potato roll.

The reason youre reading this review is to find out if you should eat here, well, you should. Rolls are a little on the pricier side however you can get basic rolls for cheap. The orange chicken + tiger roll is FIRE! (delicious but also a little spicy) And its big enough to split between 2. Come and Enjoy!

Everything is a little more expensive than the other sushi/Japanese places in town (by about $1-3) but it is very good and of very good quality. The service has also been very good for me (I have been for both lunch and dinner).

This place has a wide variety of rolls to choose from. They also have some other Japanese food options. Good flavor and good service. The fried rice was better than the actual sushi rolls.

Compared to other restaurants in town, this place is about 20% more expensive. The service is incredibly slow; I think theres only one chef? Food was okay, but Ill probably not go again.

My favorite sushi place in town. The menu is creative although the sushi does get a little heavy on the rice and spicy mayo sauce. Price is above average, but you get what you pay for!

The prices are higher than any other sushi place in Bloomington, but it is also the best sushi in Bloomington. Worth the extra cost.
