I have tried this place before and have never had any problem (except the restaurant looks always a bit empty side...): however, our experience this time was horrible at the best. First, on arriving the restaurant, we found none was welcoming us. Having waited for a while but found no one, and almost getting to the kitchen, a guy came out with a cigarette breath. Then we were led to their "Hibachi table" area, where no customers except us were seated. And when only one of our group members ordered Hibachi meal, which naturally required a restaurant staff to cook infront of us, our disasterous experience began. When a girl took our orders and went back to the kitchen, a guy (we thought he was a manager of the restaurant) came to our Hibachi table and started: "You know, usually when you sit at Hibachi table, most of you order Hibachi special (which is a bit expensive than their lunch menu). Now, only one of you ordered Hibachi menu, but you know, I hire a cook for $20 per hour to cook in front of you. And I have to pay him to cook only one of you. You know, I cannot make money!" For our side, we actually asked the girl if its OK to order just one Hibachi special--to which she says yes--and we even asked her to move to other table (without Hibachi cooking board)--to which she says we can stay at the Hibachi table. Well...its just so shocking. I have been in Bloomington for more than 10 years, but this is the very first time for me--and my friends--to be told by a restaurant staff what we should, or should NOT order. It is beyond stunning to hear such rude complaints from seemingly the owner of the restaurant! I seriously wonder what went through his mind when he was complaining about our orders...its just unacceptable! Sorry, but it is not our problem to hire someone for $20 per hour to cook in front of us! And if you dont want us to order other than Hibachi specials, why did you give us the menu with all other meals on it in the first place? I also felt that the composition of our groups gender and ethnicity might account for the owners rude, unreasonable attitude, which made me really upset. Ill probably never go to this place. Even if he had just a bad day, it is just unacceptable.

I can safely say this is the worst restaurant experience Ive ever had--and I didnt even get to eat there! I came to a birthday dinner for which reservations for a hibachi grill were at 7 pm. Yes, I did say we had RESERVATIONS. But that made no difference to the staff. By 7:45 we had not been seated yet, but other people with no reservations were making their way in and being seated. We had to ask 3 times to get drinks in water at our makeshift table while we waited. Every time we asked about our table, the greeter and the waitress said, "two minutes." Finally, the waitress, aka Dragon Lady, an older Japanese woman, claimed she was waiting for the rest of our party to seat us, but we told her each time we were waiting for no one and were ready to be seated. By 8:15, we asked for our check with a discount on the drinks. The waitress began to YELL at us and tell us it was OUR FAULT that we had not been seated. Every time we tried to tell her we had been ready all along, she yelled, "Stop talking, you stop now. It is your fault!!" Another younger waitress came in to try to mediate and said it had been a misunderstanding. The Dragon Lady yelled, "No, it is THEIR fault, no misunderstanding!!" The younger waitress finally brought us our check with a 10% discount on the drinks and we finally left. If you happen to read this review and go there anyway, run like a bat out of hell if you get this waitress. Dont look back-- you will get burned by the lasers in her eyes. If I could give negative stars, I would.

Let me start off by saying I am Japanese and Im from Kobe (the gourmet city in Japan where world famous Kobe Beef was invented), and I am very picky about Japanese food. Looking for a good quality Japanese food in Bloomington? Forget about it, it doesnt exist. Go to Indy, Ocean Worlds sushi is probably the best "around here." Anyway, living in B-town for over decade, I always preferred Domo over Mikado because they are both mediocre and Mikado is way over priced for the quality. I have recommended to people that Domos sushi is pretty good for the price. Well... that recommendation ends as of today. We went there for dinner, had Tempura Udon with the most diluted soup stock Ive ever tasted, and Nigiri and rolls were made with unpalatable rice. I also had hot tea which smelled like chlorine. To finish off that unpleasant experience, my husband and I both had upset stomach. Thats yet for us. No more Domo. Too bad to see their quality, which wasnt that high to begin with, go this low. By the way, after reading peoples review below, I must add that both Domo and Mikado are run by Koreans, not Japanese.

Its a national chain, you get what you pay for. Staff can be rude and oblivious to the needs of customers. Hibachi is ALWAYS delicious and they serve you enough food to feed an army. I dont eat sushi so I cant speak about the 1 star reviews regarding that below. However, to the person complaining about the Hibachi seating, they pay their extremely talented chefs $20 an hour. 1 hibachi meal costs about $20 and takes an hour to make. This individual is apparently BAD at math, because no restaurant in their right mind would ever consider that. When my wife and I come here, I order Hibachi and she typically gets Sushi. They sit us in the dining area which is WAY BETTER than sitting in the hibachi grill area. You get your food faster, the staff is more attentive, and you dont go home smelling like hibachi smoke.

Im never going back. One of the worst service experiences Ive had. We were sat behind the sushi prep area, which appeared to be a drink prep area that was very cluttered and smelled like an open drain. The hostess seemed frantic and took our sushi order, but after waiting for over 30 minutes we decided to ask if it was ready yet and it became apparent she had not even given the order to the sushi chef. She claimed there was a big to-go order, but we had seen others seated after us get their food, so it seemed like a poor excuse. We cancelled the order and paid for our drinks (no refills), which should have been comped in my opinion. Very disappointing as it was our first date night since our son was born and we were hoping to have sushi in honor of our first date 10 years ago.

I have been coming here since they have opened and am very confident to say this is by far the best sushi in Indiana. The rolls are creative and they give much larger quantities of much better quality fish than anywhere else in town. I have been to all the sushi places in Bloomington, and my only complaint is that I wish it was on the East side so I could visit more often. I read these other complaints and it seems they are just random bad experiences, which could easily happen at any restautant. Do not let them deter you. You dont want to miss out! Bond Girl is my absolute favourite! Also I have been unable to find an Agedashi tofu even NEAR as delicious anywhere - not anywhere else in the USA, not even in Japan!
