Complete disclosure: I worked at this restaurant for three months this past spring. I have not been in town for the past six months and do not know if anything has changed. I highly discourage anyone from supporting this business. I had wanted to finish out the semester working here, however conditions became so horrendous I had to quit. The most egregious of these conditions is the fact that the owners have repeatedly refused to pay me wages which amount to around $250. I have emailed and contacted them many times and they have ignored me and done nothing about it, despite me clearly demonstrating through my pay stubs that I was underpaid (only about $4 an hour including tips, not up to the minimum wage of 7.25). Its almost irrelevant after that, but every two weeks, I would have to ask for days to get my paycheck before the owners would get around to giving it to me. I have seen food past its expiration served to guests. The kitchen was often understaffed and incredibly messy. Many of the pastries have been frozen and then served or left out for days. Much of the food is microwaved. Often the kitchen does not keep on hand all the ingredients needed for the menu. Yes, some of the items on the menu are very good and served fresh, such as the mediterranean chicken, and these circumstances are not always the same, but you never know what kind of day it will be when you go. Do not even get me started about their neighboring business, the Golden Stitch. As a server at Sofra, I was responsible for dealing with customers whose alterations had been neglected for months and who were upset shop was closed at random times with no notice. Go somewhere else for alterations if you wish to have them done in a timely manner. I dont write this review out of spite, but because I have no other recourse. For someone my age and in my situation, $250 is a large amount to not be compensated for. Unfortunately, this kind of thing seems all to common in the restaurant industry. Please do not give business to Sofra and contribute to the system.

This is a special place. Amazing Turkish food with friendly owners. I tried the Sultan beef and it was delicious - the rice was so good! Also had the grape leaves and soup, both were really great. Their baked goods are so unique, I eat in a lot of turkish restaurants and I rarely find the variety of baked goods I saw at Sofras. Typically you have to go to hard to find places in New York to find items like Borek, gozleme, and Pogatcha. I felt everything was homemade and fresh. The restaurant was really clean, modern and bright, a cafe feel but with nice booths that were comfortable for relaxed eating. I would highly recommend this place to any of my closest friends and family.

I thought it was a Turkish restaurant/cafe. They dont have much of a variety of coffee so its not really a cafe and their Turkish food is prepared the night before and stored on display so its not much of a restaurant. They have seating like a restaurant and the place was very clean but Im very confused about what they are trying to sell. I was disappointed because I took the time to find parking (paid) to visit this place because the location isnt convenient. The worst part is they are extremely over priced for what they are prepping the night before. The best thing about this place is the girl that took my order, she was very nice and knows customer service.

Delightful family run cafe serving many Turkish dishes, drinks, and desserts. Service was personable and sincere, but my meal took 20 minutes to arrive. I suppose thats the price for handmade meals. The soup was delicious and filling. My entrée (Kebab) was very tasty. Portion sizes were good and prices reasonable. The small dining area was buzzing with small groups, some speaking Turkish, and a mix of strong aromas wafted as the servers walked through with items. It made for a fun dining experience.

If you know anything about me you know I like supporting local start-ups when possible, but Im sad to have to write that the food is subpar when compared to the other options in this town. And it seems like the servers they hire have no prior experience waiting tables. I wanna see this place succeed so I hope they make some improvements to their recipes and execution.

Their food is so tasty. The special thing about this place compared to other Turkish restaurants in town is their menu. They serve home-style Turkish food. The owner is so friendly.

Very good variety and authentic Turkish delicacies. Even their black tea alone makes this place worth visiting several times.
