Food - how hard is it to make a salad? How hard is it to screw UP a salad? Ordering a greek salad with "poached" chicken should not be dry chunks of over-boiled, stringy chicken. Heres a clue - when you "poach" a chicken it is essentially a boiled chicken, when you leave it in the boiling / hot water for too long it loses all fat AND all flavor. Boiling a chicken takes no more than 20 - 30 min. Do that and then REMOVE the chicken from the pot - hell reserve the stock in the fridge overnight, defat it and have a fat-free stock to use with your other dishes. Decor - short of having linoleum tables and molded plastic chairs you cannot get more slummy. Over crowded and cheap. Not shabby chic or retro, just plain boring crap. There is no decor past the grotty couch walking in the front door. HIRE A DECORATOR - give your downtown establishment a chance to live. It could be a really nice retro style corner diner, youve got the potential. Service - dismissive, arrogant and rude. Our server eventually arrived - sneered when we ordered water with lemon and then took well over 10 minutes to return to take our order (two salads). Once he decided to return it was well after another server brought our order, and he was not seen again until it was time to get him to bring our check. He did have other tables, and I understand that (having spent a number of years as a waiter & bartender myself) but this was ludicrous.

After a meeting just south of downtown we decided that we would give this place a try. Several people that I know have been here and go on and on about how great it is. Parking isnt the easiest as this location is pretty much in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Your choices are either nearby garages or metered parking. When we walked in we were seated immediately. Mostly business men and women inside eating which isnt surprising since this location is in the Simon corporate office building. Our server came over right away and got us our drinks. They sever pop in the can vs a fountain machine. It was nice as the can wouldnt fill up the cup so you were able to get your own refill. When we placed our order our food came out pretty quickly. It was tasty. I enjoy anyplace that uses locally sourced ingredients. I went with the stuffed french toast with fruit. The fruit was fresh and tasted good. The stuffing was just right...not too much or too little. Well maintained and clean location. The bathroom situation is a single use but there are also bathrooms in the main lobby of the Simon building as well.

I have been to this location several times in the past few years and I remember it being good before but today changed my mind. I enjoyed the Cuban Breakfast and my boyfriend enjoyed his Hippie omelet. But I ordered the Apple fritter French toast ($9.95) and I received ONE piece of bread with a fruit cup. Every other breakfast place serves about 3-4 slices of bread with a french toast order and I never ordered a fruit cup! I told the waiter that it seemed rather small and he said that it was the normal size. This waiter was rather slow and was not very nice to us at all. His name is Adam. Also, he didnt check up on us and ask us how our food was or anything. I switched to the croissant french toast and it was a little bit bigger but still only just one piece of bread with a fruit cup. I do not think I will be coming back due to the rude service and crazy small french toast portions (I get this at every single breakfast place!).

Café Patachou is quickly becoming a dining staple in Indianapolis up there with St. Elmos Steakhouse and few other restaurants. The establishments are only open for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, but with food this good; who needs them to be open longer? The menus read "A student union for adults," and whats a good student union without good coffee? Patachou offers great selections of coffee and drinks to go along with your food of choice. Whether that is one of their many options for omelets (regular or egg-white for those who like the option) or a plate of their amazing Croissant French Toast, everything works well together. And while everything that Ive been describing sounds high-society and unobtainable, Patachou does an amazing job of keeping the atmosphere approachable and cozy, while keeping prices affordable as well. An absolute must-try.

Without a doubt one of my favorite breakfast locations. I highly recommend the open yolk sandwiches on sourdough. HOWEVER, if you are with business partners or with professionals, do not order that as it is messy. Delicious, but messy. I also recommend a portion of the cinnamon toast. Its also on sourdough bread and its something I always get. For coffee lovers there is always at least 4 different carafes of self serve coffee in different flavors. So you can get a mug on the way to the table so that you can have your coffee immediately (priorities right?). There is usually a wait there, so get there as early as you can, but its definitely worth it. This location is good for casual breakfast, or breakfast with business partners.

Pros: Multiple vegan explicit options, good cocktails and beer choices, overall ambiance Cons: food flavors were not well balanced (the pesto and salsa on the vegan omelette were each super spicy on their own and the rest of the dish did nothing to contrast it), the dishes didnt have much inspiration at all and practically just used the same ingredients for all their vegan dishes, Our server wasnt very personable and was a little pushy to get us out, The food (at least the vegan dishes) were overpriced for the quality and portioning youre getting For a place that explicitly tries to show an expansive vegan friendly menu, its unseasoned uncooked tofu atop arugula is a real let down.

I was in town for a few days and good ol Yelp steered me towards Cafe Patachou. Im a HUGEE fan of runny yolks. The creamy goodness makes everything better! Once I saw reviews on the Broken Yolk Sandwiches, I knew I had to try it out! What I Ordered: - Broken Yolk Sandwich with Bacon and Avocado I seriously did not know how to eat the thing once it arrived. It was too big and messy for my hands but, eating with a fork seemed very odd to me. Its a sandwich lol. I decided to be lady-like and use a fork haha. It was sooo good!! Eggs were cooked perfectly!!! I added Sriracha for some heat. Definitely recommend this place to everyone who loves breakfast and runny yolks!

This is now my third different Patachou location that I have visited. This one is probably the largest and definitely the busiest. We came on a busy day in the middle of GenCon and the morning after a concert so it was busy. We had about a 15 minute wait which was pretty good considering. The quality of the food was good and consistent with the other locations. The presentation was slightly off, probably to try to keep up with the scale of orders coming through. Only complaint for this particular trip, and sometimes we have this at the other locations, is the warm water - I am not sure if they chill the bottles or not, but we had 3-4 bottles and each were warm.
