My partner and I have been eating take out from Taste of India for half a decade if not more. I love trad. Indian food and was spoiled where I moved from as we had a home-cookin place that was organic and the grandmother did all the cooking. So after having that wonderful food for decades, I was not going to settle! I sampled meals at a large number of places in the Devon St district, and none really impressed me. Then we ran across Taste of India after moving to the suburbs. I was floored. The tastes are perfect, the ingrediants pure, everything is cooked with love! Its like having dinner in your Indian grandmothers kitchen. These are also THE FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE I HAVE MET IN YEARS! They treat us like we are their children! We are nurtured and spoken to with love, they are always happy when we call, they give us HUGE and I mean HUGE portions of food, and Ive tried at least half the menu now, Ive never been disappointed. We have been loyal regulars and enjoyed them SO MUCH that they offered to give us a lifetime discount! That is amazing customer service! We never go to eat in, but we often come early and sit down, sometimes it would be for a drink before dinner, sometimes just to hang out with what feels like our second family and see how theyre doing. The waiters/men hanging around are there to make sure youre ok, like a gourmet restaurant, and they arent rude, theyre quiet and shy and respectful. Ive only seen Indian families eating here. They have expanded and now they hold parties and celebrations for peoples children when they graduate, for weddings, birthdays, and special occasions. The buffet food is good, but I like to order direct off the menu.because it always tastes fresher to me.They will cook to order: mild, medium, or spicy heat. They always are open to discuss how things are cooked and what different recipes include. You must be patient, a few of the men have very thick accents. They made one mistake on a take out order due to language barrier one time in roughly 7 years, and it was our fault for wording the menu item backward, making it sound like another similar item. If you are clear, and KIND, these people will provide an amazing experience. Oh, we also spread the word when these guys were just starting out, and we gave out their business cards to everyone and we still highly recommend them to everyone we meet who likes Indian food in the suburbs! Some of our personal favourites are: The Mango Shakes-- YuMMMM~ Bhatoora Bread- really good, easy to reheat in toaster, more delicate than Naan, which I find to be too dense. Dal Soup-all their soups are yummy but this is my fav! Green Chutney Salsa- We are now addicted to this! Matter Paneer- vegetarian goodness, homemade cheese is healthy, great sauce, fresh peas! Chicken Briyani- Huge dish of chunks of quality chicken with fried rice seasoned well with spices and saffron and topped with a nice amount of fresh cilantro, we always have enough to last for days and days! Aloo Gobi- Healthy vegetarian dish that blows my mind with perfect ginger spice sauce-so good when I have a cold! The Ragon Josh and Lamb Vindaloo both rock, but all the Tandori meat dishes are amazing, we always get a Curried Chicken and the Fish Curry is great also! My partner loves the Chicken Makhani but thats a butter creamy sauce thats too rich for my delicate palate :). He swears by it! Yes, you order rice on the side. There are MANY rice dishes that come with veggies or meat, and you can also make special requests at this place and they generally will do what you ask if its in the realm of possibilities. This is NOT a fancy gourmet downtown restaurant. The interior is very simple, mostly white with red and black accents, and the people are simple and kind and far from pretentious. Its a stellar round the corner home-cookin kind of place with very pure and healthy comfort food-the best of both worlds! They care about their food and they care about their customers. Smile and give them a chance.

Who are they kidding? For the folks who wrote that the service is just par, I would like ask them how much they spent on an Indian meal in the city? And still you probably wouldnt get better service. For the price, this place is excellent. Some trendy people need to have the expensive ostentatious downtown location with imported bamboo wines selves, italian marble walls and a gimmicky presentation. Taste of India is none of that. Its all of the tasty, wholesome food without the Manhattan price tag. I challenge anyone in the Chicago metro area to name a better place for lunch or dinner where their $10 is stretched farther than Taste of India. Also, its important to note that the negitive reviews were written by the family members of other Indian restaurants in the area that have been losing money since Taste of India opened. I urge you to see for yourself. Delicious tandoori chicken!

We went for the dinner buffet and it was so so but I have a couple of gripes that you may want to be aware of. First off their "Lamb" when we had it was actually made with beef, I know what lamb tastes like and this taste exactly like mommas beef pot roast. Next wast their roasted chicken, it was like leather and completely dried out. MSG AND TONS OF IT!! I put like a small spoonful of each item on my plate and I am a big man mind you, and I was nearly full before finishing that and not that I am home I can definitely confirm that there is something shady going on here. Lastly, their "mango custard" was nothing more than canned fruit cocktail with some sort of mango puree/syrup. If you are looking for "authentic" Indian food go elsewhere, if you are looking for Indian-ish food on a budget then ok go to this place.

This place was sub par, but still not bad. For the Indian restaurants Ive been to, it was above average. Went for the buffet on a Sunday night. The food was good, didnt taste like it was mass prepared like some buffets do. The table was clean and the wait staff was more than happy to come by and take plates regularly. The two stars I took away from this place were for the two gripes I had. The first was when I walked in, I had to ask 3 times for the wait staff to bring over tandoori roti. Second, I went in about an hour before closing and half the buffet was empty dishes with just gravy. I had to ask a few times to have them filled so I could actually get some food. However, I felt compelled to add a star back because the dessert was delicious.

I went to Taste of India last week to try their lunch buffet. It had been a while since I had Indian food and was looking forward to having lunch there. The buffet had a wide variety of items. Everything I tried was fantastic. The spicy dishes had some.kick, but werent too overwhelming. The staff was friendly, but I wish they would have been more helpful in explaining what was on the buffet. Im an adventurous person, but a little help would have been nice. I ordered a Mango Shake based on another reviewers suggestion and was glad I did. It was very tasty and refreshing. Overall a very nice dining experience and very good value. I look forward to going again.
