If I could give no stars I would. Today, was my first visit at Dairy Star. I purchased a small chocolate cone. They do not take credit cards. The small cone was a little under $3. I think $2.70 which is extremely pricey. The guy who I gave the money to, gave me my change and went to the ice cream machine. Through the window, I watched him fill the cone about 1/4 full and then stepped away out of my view. I thought to myself this is strange , what is he doing? 5 to 10 seconds later he appears in my view again at the machine filling up the same cone that is only 1/4 full with the rest of the ice cream. He came to the window, gave me the corn and said have a nice day with a weird kinda smile on his face. I took the cone and I thought to myself , dont eat it, so I tossed it in the garbage and drove to Oberweis Dairy, just around the corner. That was a strange experience and whatever he was doing for those few seconds with the cone was unusual. I am African American. They did not appear to be racist but you never know. Buyer beware is all Im saying.

Ive been coming here my whole life, and for things like classic phosphates, floats, sundaes, milkshakes/malts, and soft serve, it really cant be beat. Very old fashioned, but nice. The dips are better and come in more flavors than Ive seen anywhere else (most places only have chocolate dip, this place has sprinkles, butterscotch, even bubblegum and USA sprinkles!) They also have kosher options, which I didnt personally need but its nice. I rue the day every year when they close for the winter!

I love the Dairy Star and make a point to go at least once a week every week theyre open. The soft serve is as good as it gets, creamy and delicious and the toppings are spot on. The seating is always busy but you are never without a place to sit and enjoy your treat, and the parking lot is ways clean a.d well kept I cant say enough good things about the staff, all if them are very polite and attentive and get you your ice cream fast! Great place that Ill never pass up.

This place always reminds me of soft serve ice cream stands you find in small towns serving up all variations of soft serve treats, fruity slushies and more, usually from a walk-up window. This place is all about the healthy portions, fair prices, fast service and its small town neighborhood feel despite being in the city on a busy street. There is ample parking and outdoor table seating.

A retro throwback to the 50s ice cream drive-up, complete with high school employees, yellow bug lights and umbrellas. You can get your cone dipped in 6 separate things, but it will melt faster than you can handle it. Ice cream is just so-so, but the ambiance is great

Being my first time to this place I was excited! Only 3 flavors of ice cream to choose from but so many different dips to pick! They also have a wide variety of shakes! Not really liking the cash only method of paying though.

This is a gathering place not only for people in the neighborhood, but for people from all parts of Chicago and the suburbs. It was featured on the Chicagos Best T.V. show, and it features wonderful dairy desserts.

Great ice cream spot. Cash only. I would like to see cleaner tables and the sitting area. Yes , it did improve from last year but still tables are sticky. Its a little bit expensive but ice cream is delicious.

This is a great neighborhood spit with fantastic soft serve made into a massive number of sweet treats. They have more dip flavors than you will believe. Try the Boston: it is a float with a sundae on top.

The ice cream is always fresh, large servings, and a great variety of options. Parking isnt too bad even during peak hours because of the Devon Ave. I prefer their ice cream over nearby ice cream shops.

Great old fashioned ice cream joint. No credit cards accepted so thats a downer. Employees are very cheerful and helpful. Just be sure to wait, because ho boy, there are long lines at hot days
