I used to have a pretty good impression about this restaurant until todays lunch reunion with a few friends of mine. When I was seated, I told the waitress I wanted to use the Northwestern discount. I paid the bill at about 1:10, much earlier than I actually left at about 3:15. Then I realized the restaurant didnt use the Northwestern discount (it seemed nothing about the discount was noted), so I returned there at 3:18 and asked them to apply that discount. The man at the cashier refused firmly, saying I paid 2 hours ago and how can I now ask the discount to be applied. I mean, I left 3 minutes ago, and I believe the man saw me just leave, but he talked like it was a hoax or I was asking a refund for something I paid days or weeks ago, as if I was no longer a patron right after I stepped out of the restaurant and he couldnt lose any money when "doing the business with me". I really dont understand how complicated it is for them to process that discount and give me some sort of explanation. I just know similar things had happened to me at other restaurants or shops and I never experienced any difficulty, let alone such an unexplained, unreasonable refusal. A few minutes out of the restaurant and the Northwestern discount is impossible?! Besides, are they not responsible for their miscommunication? Its just a few dollars, no big deal for either me or KOI, but this thing really shows the level of service they represent––a great disappointment––and it really broke my mood, my feeling about and my loyalty to this restaurant.

We came with a Chinese friend who had raved about this place for a while. It was good. The organization of the menu is cute, listed by region, with several options from the cuisine of each. My friend recommended the Szechuan, and said that some of the food items for some of the other regions were strange choices and not really representative of the region. I got a chicken dish and friends tried fish and shrimp. It was all good, and came in huge portions--enough for 2 meals, or we could have shared two dishes among three of us. The chicken wasnt super spicy although it was listed as spicy, so still Midwestern spiciness ratings here. At first it tasted a bit odd, but I got used to it, and I actually thought it was better reheated later for another meal. I got hot and sour soup, which was good, although not especially hot. It had lots of stuff in it, nice tofu and bamboo shoots. We also shared the crab wontons. There was a little crab, but the fillling was pretty much cream cheese--not necessarily a bad thing, but something to know before ordering. The service was good, friendly, helpful, attentive. The place is big, with a front seating area thats nice a brigh with big windows, and a less lit back area. We didnt need a reservation, although we did eat early. There was lots of street parking, its free on Sundays.

Great dinner date at Koi! The atmosphere is relaxing, music soothing & our food was wonderful. This place has a dish for all asian food fanatics embracing dining options from various asian territories. A number of good options for vegans, but dont expect a variety of vegetables in any of dishes listed. The kung bao is listed as a spicy vegetable dish, but in reality it was simply green peppers & onions. I also received such a small amount of rice you would think it was the left overs from another diner. Honestly, if my food wasnt so flavorful I would definitely decrease my food rating. out waiter wasnt very helpful when trying to decide what to order. He also intended to place our dishes and drinks at the seats we were not using. Overall, I think this a great location for evening out. If youre bold make a selection from the extensive sake menu. Last tip: Dont sit at the last table in the back room! It appears to be a little secluded corner, but behind the black curtain is the kitchen. We move immediately because the space is too tight for that. It is a major drawback in that rooms. I suggest Koi simply move that table! Oh, for some reason there was a miscellaneous chair between the table we were seating and the one adjacent to us - a minor thing but very odd. Overall the food, ambiance & staff were good.

We started with the beef potstickers and cold peanut salad. Both were very delicious. Would have liked to see a little more than just meat in the potstickers, but very good anyways. For the entree had seasame chicken. It was very crispy and sticky sweet served over crispy noodles. The veggie fried rice was good and not too salty like some other places. Their cooler was shutdown, so no sushi available. I would definitely come back with friends and try some sushi. I think its a good place for a group who like sushi, but also good for those who dont. Nice large portions. Can easily share or take some to go. Parking on street or garages are available across the street and a couple blocks west.

We especially enjoy the weeknight 1/2 price discounts on drinks and appetizers when you eat at the bar! It works great when we go to the movies on discount Tuesday nights, for example! You just have to order before 6pm. We LOVE the chicken or shrimp Soong (which is NOT available as a discounted appetizer, but is well worth the full price!), a lettuce wrap with Asian crispy noodles, plum sauce, lovely chicken or shrimp, and rice. its wonderful. Koi also services good chicken satay, and they have nice cocktails as well. The service at the bar is always pleasant and friendly, and we just love it.

I came here with my boyfriend on a weekday night and the place was fairly packed. We called to make a reservation and was given a high-top by a water display tucked away in a corner of the restaurant. We ordered the kung pao and basil entree to share. The portions are big and the prices are reasonable. I especially liked that they have lower prices for meatless entrees. We didnt get sushi, but apparently Koi serves that too. The sushi seemed overpriced though. Service was a little slow, but our waiter was friendly, welcoming and helpful. Id definitely go back for a filling Chinese-style meal.

Friendly, inviting staff welcomes you to this spacious downtown Asian fusion spot. John was great! I tried a variation on the dragon roll, which was quite tasty. The fish was fresh, and was served at a proper temperature. They were even able to honor a special request, albeit not entirely accurately. Sapporo on tap was a nice compliment to the maki roll I ordered. For dessert I ordered the cheesecake, which was pleasantly not overly sweet. I would have preferred the crust to be slightly more crisp. I look forward to trying their other offerings.

We received $20 gift certificate and after the lunch, the manager says that they do not honor that gift certificate. They said it is a holiday and we do not honor it. We said December 31 is not a holiday, but he said that is upto our discretion when we want to decide a holiday. We often go there and order our team lunches and we told the manager that we may not come back, but the manager said thats fine if you dont want to come back. With this kind of service, I would never step into that place I suggest others to avoid this place.
