I was very disappointed in the new Kyoto in Crystal Lake. My sister and I have been going to the Kyoto in CL for years. We tried the new location when they first opened and were very unhappy with the service. We thought it was because they just re-opened, so we said we would give it another chance. Today, we went for lunch, we always get the same thing off the menu, because we love it. Between the 2 servers and the guy manager, it didnt seem like they knew what was going on. When we received our salad, I had to wait for my soup an extra 10 minutes for a reason that is unknown. Then the food came out, it was cold. no one came back to our table to check on us, meaning no refills or the option to tell them it was cold. It took 10 minutes for them to bring us our check after the food was cleared, and another 5min. to have them bring our check back to us. I have have never been so unhappy with restaurant service as I was today. I will not be returning to kyoto, and I will be going to Kobe.

Excellent place to eat, but I can only speak for the hibachi, not the sushi. The food is top-notch. Steak is tender and juicy, the salmon is also great. The chefs put on a great show. Beware though, if youre getting soda: refills arent free. I unknowingly spent $9 on Coke. Thats severely stupid, especially when youre dropping $20 on a dish. The interior of this place is a bit lacking. The walls are standard painted drywall with some paintings hanging up, and the ceiling tiles are the same you see if you work in an office. The lighting isnt exactly well placed either, and the tables are a bit cramped and close together. If you want a great atmosphere to accompany your amazing food, theres a Japanese place in Rockford that gives you all that at the same price. If youre happy with super-delicious food and a great show, Kyoto wont disappoint.

We dined here on a Saturday evening and it was very busy. We were seated immediately and greeted shortly after. We ordered a large warm sake and a Spicy Tuna roll. The sake was suprisingly good for a house sake. The spicy tuna roll was very tasty and the presentation was excellent. Combination Teriyaki steak and California roll was excellent. The meat was very tender and cooked perfectly. The tempura vegetables, seaweed salad and fried rice were delicious sides. We also had the Napan Napan salad which was fantastic. A superb combination of ingredients in this salad. The crunchy onion strings paired perfectly with the thinly sliced beef. The Creamy ginger dressing is out of this world. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The green tea ice cream was a nice finish to the meal. Highly recommend this establishment.

Great food, drinks and entertainment! Sometimes it can take a while to get seated in the hibachi section, even if you do have a reservation. They will not seat you until everyone in the group is present because they sometimes use up all the seats at a table with multiple different parties. If groups of two want to sit in the hibachi section, you will be with two to three other groups. But the awesome food makes up for it! Pricing is on the higher end but definitely worth it.

My husband and I have been coming here for 20 years. We NEVER wait but we always have a reservation, AND we always eat at the sushi bar, not the cooking tables. The food is always great. Sometimes we may experiance a litle bit of a language barrier, but we dont mind, because thats what you should expect when dining in an ethnic resteraunt.WE just LOVE this pace and rarely go anywhere else. Anywhere else is just not as good, once you have had the best!

We love going to Kyoto, and travel 45 minutes to enjoy the sushi there. The quality of the fish is excellent and the wait staff has always been friendly and attentive. The owner is behind the sushi bar 90% of the time. We travel extensively and try different sushi restaurants and this is the first place that reminds us of freshness of Hawaiis finest sushi. The spicy scallop rolls are to die for. We do try other sushi places, but this is the best.

This was my first time here, I went 6/14/14, got a table and ordered sushi. The sushi was some of the best Ive ever had! Had the crazy, rainbow, caterpillar, and unagi nigiri. They had the eel sauce on the side for the caterpillar which was very nice, service was great. If Im ever out in the area again I will be sure to go again. Only complaint was it was a little bit pricier then what I am used to for sushi, but it was well worth it!

First time to the New Kyoto was AWESOME! We had the Golden Lobster, Golden Shrimp, Filet Mignon. the food was awesome, the best I have ever had! It was on a Friday night, they were very busy the service was awesome! I think the food is much better than when they were at the old location. If you havent been here in a while, you definitely need to come back. The new location is much bigger.

Excellent habachi filet! The chefs are entertaining, fun and lively and we always have a wonderful time. The plum wine pairs well with the filet and you receive a good amount of food; you most likely wont be able to even eat it all! I love that they take a complimentary photo of you and your group- or whoever youre with. A lot of fun and its delicious!

So before I ordered I said"no onion on my hibachi", still they put it on; forgot my salad dressing on the side, they put it on top; forgot to cook my garlic sauce; served me a to go box before I even finished my meal; food was just ok, a little bit salty for me. Not going back again. Rather going to Kobe.

Amazing talented Teppanyaki chefs, and completely competent sushi. My family loves coming here for birthdays and other special occasions. Their fried rice is pretty amazing. The steaks they cook with teriyaki are pretty tasty, if you like that sort of thing, you should try it here at least once.

Would have been 5 stars but it seemed like our Chef wasnt that into it and seemed like he just wanted to leave to get to his next table.. Several people at our table noticed other chefs having fun with their guests.. Just a bad draw I guess, otherwise the food was a perfect score of 5!

Kyoto is a great Japanese restaurant in my opinion. They have great service there and you dont have to wait forever for the food to get to your table. They have a great selection of food and awesome appetizers, too. I really recommend eating there and the hibachi grills are awesome!

Horrible service and sushi! Waited 25 mins before I had to ask for a menu. I ask for recommendations and got nothing and had questions about their menu and the waitress was very short with me. The soup was cold and the sushi was worst than what you can buy at a grocery store.

Awesome place. The skilled hibachi chefs are entertaining and put on a fabulous show for adults and kids alike. They also have a terrific lunch menu. Pricing is what you would expect for a restaurant of this type. Youll definitely need a reservation on the weekends. Enjoy!
