Sam and George has been around in Chicago for a really long time, and theres a good reason why. The food here is reasonably priced, served in generous portions and tastes really good. As a far as american diners go, this is one of my favorites. I had the breaded veal cutlet, a house specialty according to the menu. It came with a salad, soup and made for a very satisfying meal. The veal cutlet itself was a little dry on the inside, but not terrible. The fries were really well done, freshly cut and fried. The food did take a while to come, even though our server was really quick in seating us and taking our order. So if youre in a rush or about to collapse from hunger, do let them know and the friendly staff there will do their best to ensure that food appears on your table quick. Also, the prefer cash so have some handy as well.

I just think this place is sweet because one time me and my friend went to get take out, were waiting by the door and we start to hear our server get cussed out by the manager/owner because she didnt prepare our food to go (no wonder she’s a waitress)! Now that’s taking your customers seriously! Also, they served us water while we waited, basically they treated us like millionaires!!! S&Gs is where god would go to have breakfast. P.S. S&G stands for Sam and George respectively....

Easily one of my favorite go-to brunch places. Theres usually not a wait, and it just feels so home-y. Same can be said about the food; the menu is massive, but so far Ive liked everything that Ive tried. I was even surprised to find myself liking their Chicken Alphabet soup because it was just a little random. Other breakfast items are come in pretty huge servings, but their eggs are bomb - they are cooked exactly how you like them.

The best. This is the classic american diner in Chicago. Its been here forever, a family business passed through the generations. My parents were coming here when they were in Chicago, and now I go all the time. I hope one day my kids will do. The skillets are so good, and the staff there couldnt be better. Just the nicest people. Your coffee will rarely be less than full. Cash is definitely appreciated here, and try the Gypsy!

Loved the owners enthusiastic friendliness and the staff commitment for high quality service. The food was good, the portions couldve been larger. The only problem, in my opinion of course, is that you pay a lot for a place supposed to be an American diner. American diners represent the last fort of breakfast constellation that consist large portions of home cooking versus low budget meals. Good luck

Skillets Skillets Skillets, this place is the KING of skillets. I would highly recommend the chicken fried steak skillet, it is absolutely delicious and the biscuit that comes with it is perfectly flakey andmelts in your mouth. They have a skillet for everyone, whether you are a vegetarian or vegan (meh) to us healthy meat eaters, this place is the right place for you.

My friend and I were looking for a brunch place near Roscoe village that was cheap and fast. I ordered the pork pig egg casserrole which is essentially hashbrowns topped with fried eggs, mushrooms, pork sausage, and cheese. It was hearty and delicious and cost around 10 dollars. I prefer S & G over Stellas diner, Ann Sather, and the Melrose Grill!

Tried to order delivery through an app service that S & G is on. I waited an hour only for the service to tell me that the owner refused to make my order because he was in a bad mood . Its beyond me that someone would choose to do business this way. Also, if you dont want to do to go orders take yourself off of the app. Lost my business.

Three of us stopped there for a quick dinner before a show at The Athenaeum Theatre. Wow, we have a great time! Our waitress was almost better than the show - her name was Yvette. She is hysterical! I wish she was my waitress for every meal, every day. The food was very good, the cherry pie AMAZING, and Yvette was THE BEST.

For me, this place is a premier neighborhood restaurant. When I say premier, I mean that the restaurant has great service, great food, great ambiance, and now, a great outdoor al fresco dining area! Maybe Im a little biased because I live across the street, but you should just dine here. Oh yeah, and they have good value.

$14 for most sandwiches? $12 for breakfast items? At a diner? Good luck getting out at less that $20/person for basic food with no particular value. Some nerve! you can just walk down the the Golden Apple and get the same thing for $8. And yes, slow, disorganized, and a bit rude.

First off, the owners rock - very friendly, loud, family-oriented. The menu is huge; we usually have to spend a good 15 minutes reading it over. Breakfast here is amazing - I always get one of their skillet/egg casserole meals. Great food, all around.

Best Diner in the neighborhood. The family ownership atmosphere is inviting and the service is impeccable. Try one of the skillets for a hard and filling breakfast. Check them out for dinner as well. Different and delicious specials every night.

I live right next to this place and it is always a great choice. If early enough, you can eat outside, if not, there is always enough seating inside. Their breakfast is delicious and great for a hangover. They refill your coffee cups quickly.

These folks make the best skillets on the planet. Period. It is a family establishment owned and run by the nicest people. Their food is exceptional and so is the service. My brother and I have been eating here for 20 years and we love it!

Its okay for what it is. Just a simple diner with a lot of options for food. We went for breakfast and had a skillet, pancakes, biscuits and gravy between us. Nothing blew us away. But the price is low so not upset.

Awesome skillets and great coffee. Service is always great and the atmosphere is perfect for breakfast. The place is always busy but we never have to wait too long for a table. I highly recommend S&G!

Great old school diner feel. Skillets are the main attraction for brunch. Worth a visit if your wait is no more than 15 minutes, otherwise walk into one of the many other brunch joints on Lincoln.
