Dollar for dollar, this may have been my worst dining experience to date. The location was good and the decor was understated and elegant. This would probably be a great place to grab a drink. Our waitstaff was hospitable and attentive. That said, the food was terrible. Ordered a glass of the house Chianti - might as well been two buck chuck. Simplistic, and thin. The bread was stale and mealy. I was able to try two soups - the roasted corn soup and the soup of the day, lobster bisque. The corn soup came highly recommended and it didnt disappoint. As a soup lover, this was a remarkable soup. The lobster bisque, on the other hand, was disgusting. I nearly gagged after the first bite. Perhaps a case of turned lobster? I dont know, but Im not sure if Ill be able to eat lobster bisque anytime soon. For the entree, I tired the asiago crusted sea scallops and the salmon. Neither were awful, but neither were great. The scallops were greasy and the salmon was well over done. Additionally, one of my fellow guests ordered the rib eye medium rare, but received it medium well, at best. And to top it off, the open kitchen, which I think is great a addition to a restaurant, did nothing but allow us to see the food preparers chomping away on something or another. With all of the other great options just a short cab ride away, I cant recommend this restaurant.

A client recently took our IT staff out to Rivers and I have to say Im not sure how I didnt know about it before. A quick 3 minute walk from our office brings about one of the perfect business lunch spots in the area and one that I know I will definitely be at again. Its located in the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in the West Loop near Union Station. With a great view over the river and service that was quick to take care of our orders and as many refills as we wanted it was a good experience. I highly recommend the Ribeye Sandwich whose horseradish sauce isnt too overpowering and gives you just the right flavor to pair with the sandwich itself. I wouldnt have this on my list of places to take a date but for a casual or business lunch or dinner its a great meal at a price that wont break the bank.

As an executive and having tried fare throughout Chicago, I must say, THIS IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT. Not only due to impeckable servers, extended menu, great wine selection, THE VIEW, that deck is magnificent and the new wine bar fantastic. With two seperate menus, one would never become complacient. Have to say, ive dined in all the best, this is my FAV the pricing is low in compai=rison and entrees large. You will never leave hungry. Also the entertaiment ins "MARV". Recently catered a CEO retirement dinner and was most pleased at service and fare. Serving to elites at a most reasonable rates. I recommend the seafood raviolli, or grouper, you will be very pleased or I will buy your dinner. The steaks melt in your mouth, and the cocktails remind you of the 60s.....bonappatit...chow...romantic view

I have come here before the Opera for years. This place gets my 4 stars and repeat business primarily for the convenience and for the outstanding service. The food is good, but not the best. Some of the items are pricey relative to the quality/quantity, particularly some of the steak and fish options, but it is entirely possible to dine for under $100 for two. There is $16 parking in the Mercantile Exchange and it is right across from the Civic Opera House. The hostesses and waiters are friendly, professional, courteous and accommodating. Bottom line is that if you plan to go to Lyric Opera, Rivers is the best option in terms of convenience.

I love dining al fresco and Rivers has one of the best patios in the Loop. Ive been here for a few after work happy hours and it is a great place to have a drink with awesome views of the city, the water taxis and people watching. When I recently came for lunch however, I was less than impressed. It took over 15 minutes to be greeted by the waitress (and we were only one of 4 tables seated), we did not get served bread (which i saw on other tables) and the food was just Ok. I had the asiago crusted sea scallops, which was served with red peppers, green beans and some potatoes. The flavor was decent but it wasnt served hot.

Located in the Chicago Mercantile Exchange building, Rivers is the perfect place to go for Happy Hour when the weather is warm. With an expansive patio along the river, this is a great spot to have an after-work drink, enjoy the scenery and catch up with friends or co-workers, all while steps away from both Union Station and the El. After 5:00 p.m. rolls around, this place can get crowded quickly, so snag a table early. The food they serve is mediocre, but their homemade chips, salsa and guacamole are definitely worth a taste.

I love Rivers, you cant beat its location. Ive been coming here for years with my parents, who frequently go to the Lyric Opera next door. After work its a great place to grab a drink on the patio. Today we visited for lunch. The service out on the patio wasnt all that great, and the food was a little on the pricy side for a quick lunch. If your going to visit Rivers, id say to sit inside and enjoy the attention to detail and service that makes this place great. Save the patio for a drink after work or after dinner.

We were promptly seated for lunch but we were forgotten about once we were seated. One of us had to go ask the staff to come greet us and take our drink order. The turkey melt sandwich that I had wasnt very good but I did appreciate the small side of fruit. The patio along the river was fantastic on a sunny say and it looked like they were setting up an outdoor bar for the after work crew. The menu was overpriced for the mediocre experience.

Delicious!! Found this place on a whim and Im glad I did. The roasted duck was to die for! The bartender was very friendly and welcoming. Next time I come to Chicago Im definitely eating here. I went in February in the snow and would love to eat on their patio during warmer weather since they are located right on the river (get it? Their name hahaha). The view would be spectacular. Great drink selection and bread appetizers as well.

I came here for lunch the other day. I thought the menu was very overpriced for lunch, and I ended up going with a turkey sandwich with a side of fruit which I think was around $16. It was okay, but definitely not somewhere Id go again for lunch, especially when you have so many good options in the loop that are a lot cheaper. I could see going here for a business lunch when someone else picks up the tab.

Conveniently located in the CME building in the Loop and across the river from Union Station, Rivers is the place to go for your bosss birthday or for a business lunch meeting. The food reflects the wood paneled and leather booths vibe – classic American standards. In the summer, sit outside and overlook the river while enjoying your shrimp cocktail and white wine spritzer.
