オススメ聞いたらtonkotsu(14)。

Went here for dinner with my family on a Sunday evening for a birthday outing. Made a reservation, not really needed for when we went, but advisable for a later evening visit. Service staff was excellent; our server was prompt and made repeated stops to make sure we had everything we wanted. Food and drinks all arrived in a timely manner. Food was very good, overall. For appetizers, we got the raw tuna and gzoya. Both were excellent -- very tasty -- and presentation was nice. For dinners, we all got ramen bowls. My wife and I got the kimchi & fried chicken ramen, which was very good, though not phenomenal. The bowls are big, and portions are (or should be) filling. My kids really liked their dinners, too, so this is a good place to bring kids, if they are at all adventurous. A few things I found sub-optimal: my refill noodles tasted a tad under-cooked, and the prices are on the high side, considering what you get. As a family of 5, we spent > $160 for a good healthy dinner with appetizers and drinks. (By comparison, similar ramen shops in Japan where my wife and I used to go out for dinner cost $7-10 each, not including drinks; definitely not your budget option here in Chicago.) Also, the background music was not enough in the background (i.e., loud, forcing us to speak up at our table for normal conversation). This is a pet peeve of mine at restaurants, so take this criticism as you like, but I go to a restaurant to eat and converse with people, not listen to music -- even stuff I like. Tone it down, at least. Overall, this is a good ramen shop with excellent service, good food, and a nice (but loud) ambiance; definitely worth a visit if you like the LEY restaurant vibe.

We had dinner at Ramen-san with friends one evening and had a really great meal. The décor and vibe of this place is really cool and really chill. Theres a bit of a buzz, created by people engaged in conversation and a lot of moving around, but at no point do you feel rushed to accomplish anything. The wait staff is ever present to take drink or food orders, make recommendations, and just check up in general, which is nice. And the ambiance is just the right mix of Asian/industrial/20-somethings (if that makes sense...). The food is also very tasty. Not only that, but there is a bit of pageantry in the presentation, especially with the dumplings we had (which were great, btw), that adds to the fun of the meal. The main thing everyone comes for, of course, is the ramen - and they do it right here. The menu spells things out semi-cryptically with some of the descriptions but our waitress was happy to provide some analogies and descriptions fit for n00bs like us. One point of note, be advised that the spicy can sometimes get very spicy. I had the Spicy Miso and it was just perfect. But friends had the kimchi & fried chicken and they said it was SPICY. And I would agree after tasting a bite or two. However, the flavors are robust and the serving size is BIG - so come hungry (and this is from a guy with a generally large appetite. Id be remiss if I didnt mention the cocktails: they have a solid list of house drinks that we all sampled and enjoyed. Plus they have, what looked like, a rather extensive bar so you should easily be able to find what youre looking for to enhance the experience. We had a very enjoyable time at Ramen-san and look forward to returning again in the future.

Finding good ramen in downtown Chicago is very rare. Thankfully, Ramen-san has opened up shop on Hubbard St., and its open late night along with lunch on weekdays! Ive been there about 15 times since its been open, and this is what I think: Ambience: For lunch, its a nice place to meet a friend or coworker. The noise level is pretty low, and it isnt super crowded (it could get a little bit crowded on Friday lunch though). For dinner, this place is absolutely hopping! It gets packed and they have some loud music playing. The decor is pretty modern, making this place a perfectly decorated ramen restaurant. Service: Quick and efficient, yet you feel like youve been taken care of. Great staff! Food: Ive had all the ramens, and they are all really good except for the vegetarian, which should be a bit more flavorful. They use Tokyo wavy noodles made by Sun Noodle, and these are honestly the best in the country! The meat-based broths are filled with flavor, and the bowls are filled with meat, noodles and other veggies! The apps are all delicious, and the drinks are pretty refreshing here. For lunch, they have a fantastic lunch deal that will keep you coming back. It consists of a large half a bowl of ramen, a salad, a rice dish with meat (salmon, chicken or steak), and kimchi all for just $15 =) Tip: Ask for the punch card - get the 10th ramen free =) LOVE Ramensan!

As a fan of Ramen I was excited to try this place. The atmosphere is pretty hip and modern, rap music playing, open to the street, young hip employees. It definitely is not a traditional Japanese ramen shop. We were just looking for a casual dinner so this didnt bother us any. The service was good and our waitress was friendly and helpful with suggestions. To start we had spicy wings and a small ginger salad both of which were tasty and well made. The ramen was a good size and unique. I had the fried chicken and kimchi ramen which was decently spicy and the kimchi added an interesting crunchy pickled bites. The breaded chicken was something Ive never had in ramen. It was not the most flavorful Ramen though. Ive had better and cheaper ramen is many places. We also go a simple chicken broth ramen with cabbage instead of noodles in order to make it gluten-free. It was good and a fun substitution for noodles. They also were able to add grilled chicken instead of breaded which we appreciated. We also got some "cloudy milk" sake which was great. In end our dinner was 100 bucks which is where the four stars really come from. We felt that it was pricey for ramen but more so that nothing really justified the price. We did appreciate having a gluten-free option though.

To start I liked the atmosphere here, I ordered a lemonade which was really good. I asked the waiter for recommendations just because Ive never been here before and he recommended a dish off the " lunch menu" it seemed to be a good deal because it not only WAS suppose to come with other stuff from what I read on the paper! So I went with what he recommended, I got the food fast. I start eating and noticed there is no chicken so I said something and well it seemed like it was a problem, I apologized because I wasnt sure if I missed understood something or what I eventually got the " so called problem chicken" but I never received the other items that were suppose to come with the lunch specials I apologize if I misread something but it was suppose to come with a salad thing or something from what I read! I did Not say anything due to the fact it was made clear to me about asking for my Chicken was a problem to the gentleman. Overall the food was good, lemonade was delicious but I dont see myself returning or recommending to my friends. First impressions are Key I shouldnt have left with a bad impression and disappointed after I just spent a good amount of money for 1 person.
