Exceptional culinary experience* First off, NoMI is back in a big way. Chef Ryan Laroche has brought back his signature dishes into this new avant garde dining room. Note the lounge and bar areas are exceptional as well (though the clientele is a bit eurotrash). I took my group of four out for dinner and can say without exception everything was prepared with expert care. We started with: wine/beer (****), hot and cold Kushi oysters(*****), Yellow Fin Tune Ceviche(*****), cured meats/chesses(*****), the Prime Beef Tartar(*****). We then moved into pre dinner salads(*****) and onto entrees: Diver Scallops(****), TJ’s Chicken(*****), and the sea Wall Eye(****). Sides: Frites(****), Potato Puree(*****), Asparagus(****), Tagliolini(*****). We also ordered all of the deserts which each was exceptional, but the Vanilla Cinnamon Pudding was far and away the best. *When reading this review, note that I (we) live in this City (not the suburbs or tourists). We frequent most of the high and lowbrow establishments throughout this amazing city in different months and on a variety of days (this is important if you eat out). A piece of advice when reading these reviews, make sure the person is local to the proximity to the venue. A tourist or someone who is in town from the burbs on a special occasion will often misrepresent their experience based on an ‘expectation gap.’ People today have entitlement issues and expect the world every time they eat out…whether it is McDonald’s or Alinea. (*****) Perfect (****) Exceptional (***) Above Average (**) Average (*) Fail

If youre actually researching to see if this place is any good or not, just stop now. I cant say anything more about this place than absolutely AMAZING. have been living in chicago for 2 yrs now, and this is where i take people when I really want to impress. Went for Thanksgiving, and the in-laws will not stop talking about it. Its almost annoying. When we arrived, our table was not yet ready so we were escorted to the bar area, where a waitress was waiting for us to take our drink order. panoramic view of city. We were seated at a cozy table in a sectioned off room, host not annoyed by the crying child with us, and very accommodating to our musical chair act (haha). Server was very kind to our very vocal child and her "need of milk, pleeease!" And the sushi and cheese selection... i could go on forever. The service, exceptional (as it should be, for the $$) views and ambiance are perhaps the best in the city, and the food? Do i even need to say anything? if I do, PHENOMENAL. And the wine list! super diverse and amazing. Its where we go now for VERY special date nights...heard this is where obama went after he won the election. I can see why...

My wife and 2 teenage children went there for lunch on Christmas Day 2006. We had heard about it in The Irish Times and booked from Ireland in early November. We had requested a window table. On arrival we were shown to the worst table, as far as possible from the window and beside the serving stations. Just before leaving Ireland on December 24th, we had discovered that our 15 year old son had contracted shingles. Adjacent to our table was an elderly man on oxygen support - he had his large cylinder with him. I asked for the head waiter, called him aside, told him that our son had an infectious disease which might be a danger to the old man. Suddenly, tables which had previously been reserved, became unreserved and we were shown to a much better table. Matters improved from there. We really enjoyed our meal, despite the outrageous price of wine (and we are used to high prices in Ireland) and would return on next trip to Chicago. The finishing touch, of a small box of chocolates, was a perfect ending to a really enjoyable Christmas Day lunch. Chicago is a really great city and NoMI is a really good restaurant

We stayed at the Park Hyatt for several days, and were happy to be able to reserve NoMI for the date of our arrival. Our waiter, Tom OMalley, made dining an exceptional experience. The food was excellent, not outstanding but better than very good. My spouse and I were both very happy with our appetizers, greens and salmon tataki, and halibut and porcelet for the main course, respectively, with a shared potato mousseline. We were comped desserts, which we enjoyed very much, although our own choices might have been somewhat different. We have eaten breakfast here was well, and have been very happy with the service, view, and choice of food. The view is from large glass windows overlooking Michigan Ave. and The Water Tower, with Lake Michigan in the distance.

My boyfriend and I went here for a date and were running 15 minutes late due to transportation difficulties late so I as I called she said not to worry and that she would see us then. When we got there, they took our coats and we got our window seat RIGHT in front of the church (which is never guaranteed if youll get one). The view was beautiful and the place was very elegant and classy. We had potato soup which was very good and portrayed beautifully. We had Tiger Maki which was UNBELIEVABLE and then we got FREE complimentary dessert. It is pricy but it was definitely all worth it. The service is very fast and very professional. I dont normally leave reviews but I do when they are deserved and Nomi definitely deserves a five-star rating.

I went here for lunch during Restaurant Week with my parents, who dont live in Chicago, and it was the perfect place for an affordable but fancy lunch. We were kind of surprised by the vastly different quality of the food on their RW menu though. The mushroom soup starter was fantastic, but the salad was pretty mediocre. The linguine and olives entree was boring, bland, and texture-less while the grilled cheese was rich and wonderfully crispy. Two out of the three small "cakes & cookies" were also mediocre while one was pretty good and the ice creams were much better. It was nice to go once to see the gorgeous restaurant and have the experience, but based on the food I wont be returning.

We had a great lunch at NoMI. A corner table overlooking Waterpower place can’t be beat. The emphasis on lighter fare, sushi and fish makes for a healthy lunch. I had TJ’s Farm Chicken at the waiter’s suggestion, and it was one of the best chicken dishes I’ve ever had, with a perfectly crisp skin and moist, succulent meat. The accompanying herb crumbs were heavenly. The wine list is really well thought out, and if you’re willing to spring for a nice bottle, there are some excellent choices. They even have Madeira by the glass. And Madeira goes with everything (even spiny tuna rolls, it turns out!) Service was friendly and efficient. A great place for a relaxing and tasty lunch.

Loved the outdoor cocktails on a lovely August evening, even the sushi was fantastic BUT the entrees were a joke. After being served my boiled looking steak surrounded by what looked to be pizza rolls (the kind you feed your kids when you are heading out to what is supposed to be a great dinner) I thought someone with a hidden camera would jump out from behind one of the plants in the dining room to say "youve been punked". Worse than the small portions was the lack of flavor and bland presentation. Okay wine list and fantastic views would have offset okay food, but not the meal we experienced. My first visit after a six year hiatus and I wish I had waited another six years.
