I had eaten here once before and thought the food to be mediocre and extremely overpriced, they definitely take advantage of their location. If I was in old town, there are a number of better places. If you are in the mood for middle eastern, there are hundreds of places far better and cheaper. This kicker is the owner is EXTREMELY RUDE. The only reason I am posting a review is because of our experience with the owner today. My fiance wanted to stop in and order take out from them (much to my protest) and we pulled up and put our directional on to pull into the loading zone. As I begin to pull in a car came flying in and blocked my entrance into the spot. When I rolled down my window to protest the lady yelled "this is my loading zone and I own the restaurant" as I replied we were simply trying to park there to order take out she simply rolled up her window and ignored me. Needless to say we did not order take out and I will NEVER go here again!

Ive been here a few times and have always been satisfied. This place has some of the best lentil soup around. Its so comforting on a chilly Chicago day! I take a star off because the service is so very much served without a smile. And not in a mean way like I want to stiff her tip, its more like in a sad way. I feel sorry for the woman who is always my server. Maybe its because she is never allowed a day off but there is something about her that makes me feel like she might not want to be there or she is overworked. Anyway, lentil soup, tabbouleh salad, falafel sandwich, whatever you get you wont be disappointed.

I usually dont go to middle eastern restaurants so I decided to try this place out.I decided to get lentil soup to start me off. It was pretty good. Then I got the shawarma sandwich with tahini and it made the sandwich 100 times better. To finish it off I got dessert, I got the Baklava it had a really rich flavor. In my opinion this is the best middle eastern restaurant in Chicago. The waiters are very kind, they take care of the customers fast. If you are hungry and in Chicago make sure to stop by Old Jerusalem for amazing middle eastern food!

I love the food here. I know not to expect the best service since this family owned restaurant is run essentially by 3 people. They have a steady stream of people that kow they will get solid delicious food. They have this meat dish on top of a pita that is baked. That dish is to die for. The also have a really god yogurt and cucumber salad. They do their shawerma in a gyro style. The meat isnt shredded but come in "strips". The meat is well marinated. I enjoy the food here.

I went to Old Jerusalem about two days ago. It was pretty busy, but I immediately got a place to sit. I ordered the falafel sandwich and Lentil soup. I got my food in around 10 minutes. The falafel and the lentil soup was the best food I have ever tried. I have went to many middle eastern restaurants, but none taste this good. The service was very fast and my waitress was very friendly. I highly recommend this great middle eastern resturant.

Having just moved to Old Town it was imperative that I found a go to Mediterranean restaurant close by. Old Jerusalem definitely fits the bill. We ordered take out and every dish was excellent. We especially loved how fluffy and whipped their garlic sauce was. I had never tried anything like it before. They can easily accommodate vegetarians and gluten free individuals! I will definitely be back soon for a chance to eat on their patio.

I think I just hate to give 5 stars, though I probably should. We had a great time here. Staff was great. We came with our 18-month-old, and our server kissed his hands. I know its just a cultural tradition, but we really enjoyed it and felt welcomed. The food was good. I wish we had tried more (just had the vegetarian platter) and could comment more on that. Wed definitely go back again!

Nice little cozy spot, very tight and nice people that run the place, but unfortunately food was very dreadful. Falafel has got to be the worst that has ever been made. Salad that comes with the dinners can not be called a salad. Hummus was good , but enough to feed a toddler only. Pretty expensive on top of everything. Sorry we experienced this place.

Great food for a VERY reasonable price. My girlfriend and I go here and get the combination platter (3 types of meat and unlimited pita bread) along with a couple of middle eastern salads. After tip our bill is always around $25 and were stuffed. They also have a nice outdoor seating area. Its our favorite neighborhood staple because of the value.

Amazing Middle Eastern cuisine; everyone should try Old Jerusalem Restaurant. If youve never had food from this region of the world, this restaurant is great for a first experience-you will not be disappointed. All the food we ordered was prepared perfect and was very delicious and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend!

Not worth you time. AND definitely not worth your money. This place is way over priced for the amount of food you get. Im not looking for a doggie bag to go home with by any means. This place was rancid as far as customer service went. The portion were small. I was charger $13 for a cup of diced chicken over a cup of hummus.

I really like this food. If you like Mediterranean, this place is for you. The outdoor seating on Wells St. in the heart of Old Town is awesome. BYOB makes this place very reasonably priced. Basic good food in a great spot with excellent prices. I might make this one of my regular dinner spots.

I first ate at this restaurant back in 1996 when i was making frequent trips to the windy city. To this day it is one of my favorites and Id recommend it to anybody. The menu isnt one of those that go on and on and on but it is chock full of tasty dishes for all palates.

Great Mediterranean food with a sweet and attentive waitstaff. The patio is also lovely and well laid in the warmer months. One of the few places in Old Town that hasnt bent to the ways of the commercial upscale sports bars that now dominate the area.

Stopped eating there when they stopped taking credit cards for meals under 11 bucks. Not great for someone wanting to stop in for a quick lunch. Still food is good, just take cash unless youre dining with someone. I cant imagine eating dinner there.

A small BYOB restaurant in Chicago, Old Jerusalem has a good service with good food. The restaurant isnt very spacious, but if you have a group of 7-8, you are probably fine without reservations. This was our situation on a Saturday night.

This was a first time try, and it was well worth it. The setting was nice and not too loud, the food came very quickly, and the service was friendly. We tried the shawarna and the kefta kabobs, and both were excellent. Highly recommend!
