No wonder the Stones stop by here whenever theyre in town - this is hands down the freshest and best sushi in the city. Definitely not the trendiest looking spot inside or out, but the service was great and the sushi was lights out. It was a little odd how many people came by our table to help us - at least 4 different members of the staff - but everyone was really helpful and honest with our ordering. They pointed us in the right direction and we left comfortably full. Also, I called at 5:30pm on a Friday and got a 7:30pm reservation and there was still room in the restaurant. They get their fish flown in fresh either day of or day before so you know its going to be amazing. And Chef Katsu treats the fish so delicately that you really get the fishs full flavor/texture. I recommend getting one of the nigiri Chef Specials. Theyll ask you if there is anything on the menu to avoid and whether or not you like wasabi, and then they run wild. The salmon was unbelievably fresh and a very generous portion. I also recommend trying the hot appetizers - the eggplant/tofu dish was so delicious and was a nice complement to all of the sashimi/nigiri/maki we got. Its not cheap - so if California rolls are the extent of your sushi eating, Id probably go somewhere else - but its definitely worth it if you love sushi - plus a 28 for food on Zagat says a lot.

I had some really good sushi here. I ordered the omakase sushi 12 pieces (chefs choice). I got yellow tail, salmon, white tuna (torro), tuna, squid, shrimp, sea urchin (uni), oyster, tuna tar tar sushi, crab, scallop, and mackerel. I liked them all except for the squid (not a big fan of squid as sushi). These were not your typical sushi as most of them came with a slight addition to add a little flavor, usually a roe but some had a little sprout or leaf to go with it. The only reason its not five stars is I didnt think it was worth the price. I thought the sushi would have been better without any of the frills/additions and just served as straight fish. Roe and truffles and gold foil is expensive to add on sushi and it would bring the cost down and just be the great flavor of the fish.

First and last visit to this high ranked place. Staff was attentive and friendly but service was slow. Had special mushroom soup in clay pot not impressed with slivers of mushroom 1 shrimp for $12. One soft shell crab roll was good Spicy tuna roll was OK but not for The price . Chefs special sushi plate had nice presentation even though our request to leave out the mackerel was ignored. Could be a nice place but not at the prices charged. Tsukasa in Vernon Hills provided high quality sushi at 1/3 the price. Clue should have been a near empty Restaurant at 730 on a Saturday. Final note left are 9:00 still hungry trying to figure out were to go next. Kfc we drove by looked tempting.

Went on a Saturday night without a reservation and we were surprised to be seated right away. However, they did warn us that the Sushi would take about an hour and a half to make but good company always makes that a non-issue. I liked the authenticity of this place but was really shocked when they denied our request for wasabi. I totally get the chefs justification for this but it seemed a little hypocritical since they were still allowing us soy sauce, which in my opinion would overpower the quality or freshness of any sushi grade fish. Cant complain about the taste or the atmosphere but straight out denying a paying customer wasabi was a little off beat for us.

Best sushi anywhere! Chef Katsu uses outstanding ingredients and turns them into stars. You wont find fancy sauces here, but everything is beautifully displayed, and you taste every ingredient and the masterful combinations of flavors. It is quite expensive, but you expect to pay high prices for the highest quality. If you want to taste pure and authentic Japanese cuisine at its best and arent afraid of the bill youll rack up, Katsu is a must. As far as I am concerned, its the best restaurant in Chicago!

The service was good. The nigiri was great! The rolls we got we okay, minus the Hakata roll that we were warned had a strong flavor...and it was quite strong for us. We were impressed by the freshness, but not wowed by the rolls, not because we werent given enough food though! They gave huge piece of nigiri; granted we did pay a decent amount!

Katsu is hands down the best place for sushi in Chicago. If you look outside of Chicago for comparison in my mind it is superior to the places I have been to in NYC. Haroku and Katsu are incredibly kind and humble, which makes the experience of dining with them that much more special.

Walked in with my wife and 2 kids at 6 pm on Friday to a restaurant with only one table seated and were told they dont have high chairs and they werent sure if they could even get us in without reservations, in their almost completely empty restaurant. We wont be back.

This is by far the best and the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Chicago. If you crave for real Japanese sushi, and not the "westernized" Maki rolls, you wont miss it. The only downside is its location, but it wont deter the ernest.

Best sushi experience in town, bar none. It is pricey, but totally worth it. Go for the omakase: chefs tasting. Let the chef select for you. Omakase features whats freshest and most unusual. Very authentic. Delicious and a must!

This is an excellent sushi restaurant. Very authentic and the owners are hands-on and attentive. You can get cooked Japanese food so there is something for everyone. The rolls and nigiri are fresh and delicious.

The fish was good, the atmosphere was also good. However the prices are a little hard to justify. The mushroom soup was like $14, it was small and only "fair". For a $14 soup, it needs to be amazing.
