I heard of Koi Japanese Restaurant from people who had previously dined there and gave it great feedback. I finally stopped down to this south side restaurant(5th and Layton Ave) and have to say I am impressed by their absolutely HUGE sushi menu. I tried the Angry Bird roll(spicy tuna, king crab, avocado wrapped with Nori, shrimp tempura on the top, with wasabi sauce), Godzilla roll(spicy salmon, and whitefish wrapped in seaweed then deep-fried with masago, eel sauce, and spicy sauce on top), Tiger Roll(spicy crab, cucumber, avocado, shrimp, mango sauce and eel sauce), seaweed salad and Harumaki. My brother had the lobster and scallops hibachi while my friend had the Bomb roll(lobster tail tempura and crab stick wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber with spicy sauce and eel sauce on top) and Crazy Tuna roll(Pepper tuna and avocado inside W. Spicy tuna and spicy sauce on top). They both raved about the rolls and hibachi, asking themselves "why the heck havent I dined here before?!". I am 1/2 Japanese so Ive had my share of sushi and hibachi style food in my lifetime. I have eaten at the majority of Japanese restaurants in SE Wisconsin and I would put Kois food up against any of the very best. Not only is the food outstanding but the service and prices are as well. I wish I would have known about this gem awhile ago because its literally 5min from my house. It looks like Ill be making regular stops here to get my Japanese food fix. Try Koi you will be pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service is!

We call Koi our "hidden gem" restaurant in Milwaukee. Yea, its a strip small suishi restaurant near the airport- attributes that dont typically sound appealing. However, their menu is extensive, clear, easy-to-understand; their prices are more reasonable than the downtown suishi places, and the food is just delicious. We take our 7-year old here and they treat him incredible well- childrens chopsticks, a kids menu, Japanese soda, and are very accommodating when we ask for substitutions for him.

The best sushi on the south side, by far (and Ive been to Kyoto on 76th)! Wonderful service, decor, and food. Try it! If youre into sushi at affordable prices, come to Koi on Layton. Everything about it makes it a step above the rest. You get a freshly cut fruit plate as a FREE palate cleanser after your sushi. It really is a great experience. Great sushi, great people, great atmosphere. Highly recommended!!!

The only sushi near the airport, but luckily its better than most strip mall sushi in town. Always fresh fish and generally good service. Good for takeout or dine in. Recommend dine-in Mon, Tue & Thurs for their special discount menu, which Im generally leary of at most places but here there doing steady business so you can still expect freshness and quality.

Very Disappointed That a Delivery wait time within the the delivery area was 2 hours long. Would have ordered food for our office but the service was terrible and the wait was way to long. Very disappointing due to this is the only Sushi/ Japanese place around the area that would deliver. Well, they lost people here.

Ive been to many Japanese restaurants, and Koi has by far some of the best service around. If you plan on having a birthday party, heres where you go! Their sushis great, appropriate pricing, and the rest of their food is outstanding. This is the place to go if love sushi, Japanese, both or never had either!

Visited tonight and enjoyed the special menu of reduced priced items. The sushi was good, but there were some issues with customer service: slow and some confusion, but very friendly and apologetic staff. It was busy, so perhaps the mixups are not the norm. I will give it another try in the future.

Great prices. Great food. Decent service. What I would call a "strip mall gem". Every special roll Ive tried? Superb. Fish is fresh. Miso soup isnt as salty as some places, which could be a plus or a negative, depending on what you favor....but in no way as important as the excellent sushi.

I travel extensively for my job and look forward to my trips thru MKE. I stay at the Marriott Courtyard next door and head straight to Koi for the best special rolls Ive ever had. Beautifully made, imaginative in there design and certain days they have incredible price. Highly recommend !!!

Large menu with a variety of options/possibilities, bento, hibachi, tempura and sushi/sashimi/nigiri, just to name a few. Beautiful, beautiful fish thoughtfully presented. Some of the best sushi in the city without the pretense of other sushi bars in/near downtown.

Ordered a lunch online for pick up..Delicious! Soup, salad, appetizer, entree with rice and veggies and a spicy tuna roll...all for $10. I hope to dine in soon to sample sushi offerings. Definitely an asset to the Bay View area!

KOI has a great lunch special! Check them out, you will not be dissapointed. The amount of food you get is disproportionate to the price you pay (in a good way!).

Sushi People, if you are near Milwaukee Airport , this is the place. Ironically situated between a Wendys and Culvers- this is REALLY good fast sushi.

Great location to stop by and grab some sushi or a hibachi dish. It is not a place where they cook it in front of you, though there is a sushi bar.

Great variety, the bento box selection is awesome. The steak was better than the one I got at a steakhouse the night before.

Great food, service was a bit slow even for being busy. The food is really greasy and looks expensive but its not...
