Worst experience ever! DON"T GO TO THIS PLACE... (Im just sharing my experience. If you think you got a good experience at this place, then good for you) I went there on a Saturday night with a couple of my friends. We called earlier that evening to make a reservation and were told that they would not take reservations on phone. When we reached the restaurant, we were asked to wait and were told that the wait time was 40 minutes. While we were waiting, we saw a few groups coming in and they were seated ahead of us. When enquired, we were told that they had made reservation on the phone. After waiting for more than 90 minutes we were finally seated in a cramped up space. Have to say, the bread and dip they provided as appetizer was tasty. But thats about the only tasty thing you can find in this god foresaken place. Also, the waiter literally grabbed the appetizer plates from us while we were still eating the bread. For main course, I ordered Veg Biriyani and exactly after 60 minutes from the time I ordered - I got a bowl of cold tasteless colored rice. When I called the waiter and told him the food was cold, there was not even an apology. He grabbed the bowl away and then after another 20 minutes brought me a hot bowl of Biriyani. I understand that you get little in Chicago downtown for $12, but it would be worthwhile for you to spend it elsewhere - as opposed to wasting your time waiting and putting the money of this crap biriyani. Other items that Im obligated to mention: I think these folks have no idea what a lassi is - it was not thick and tasted like buttermilk. The samosas we ordered sucked big time. The potatoes inside were sweet and not fully cooked. The samosa was very sweet and nobody in our group liked it. I have to say here that the waiter did not bill for my biriyani becasue of my cold food experience - but repenting for your mistakes doesnt get you good reviews. Only serving tasty food and good customer service does... Overall, I regret that I wasted about 4 hours of my life and $100 from my wallet for a food and dining experice which should be one of the worst in Chicago. On the bright side, I did not have to waste another half hour in the toilet like I did in Indian Garden restaurant, Devon Ave after eating their lunch buffet - not to mention their toilet is probably the worst in the world. Im planning to add more details of that wonderful experiece in Devon Ave, Indian Garden restaurant review... To summarize shortly, India House #MonumentalFail I wish we had gone to Maggianos which is just around the corner for some excellent Italian food... The lunch buffet that India House does deserves the highest marks. Its *so* good that I find myself coming back solely for this and passing up their dinner offerings. I have been here many times over the last few years and the food has always been delicious and consistent, which I enjoy. The lunch buffet runs at about $14 a person, and it is worth every penny as you can try a wide assortment of Indian food offerings. Although, that being said, I always pass up the soup and salad offerings so that I can save room to binge on the appetizers and the main dishes. My favorite is an Indian staple, which is the Samosas. They are perfectly crispy and are brimming with filling that you can soak in any of the sauces from the main dishes. As for the main dishes, there are about 8-10 to choose from, with about 3-4 that are exclusively vegetarian, which can accommodate any dietary needs. Ive found that they typically have a few of the same main dishes on hand, which are the Matta Paneer (cottage cheese served with green peas in a delicious sauce) and the Chicken Tikka Masala (Chicken in a tomato cream sauce). They always have some sort of a lamb dish as well as a curry or two to hit any spicy cravings one may have. Lastly, the desserts (the most important part!). Normally Indian House has three desserts to choose from, but I always find myself mixing the mango ice cream (Kulfi) with the rice pudding. They are great on their own, but something about the mixture really hits the mark for me. My only complaint about Indian House is their service. When Ive been in for lunch, the wait staff always makes you feel like youre putting them out for doing their job. They are very curt and short, and never really acknowledge anything you say, which is bizarre. Service issues aside, this is a great place to get Indian food without trekking up to Devon Avenue.

My first review for any restaurant. I had to give this review, as I ordered online through the restaurant webpage. The food was never delivered, and my money has not been refunded on time. I am now calling both the restaurant and the online order processing company to get my money. Please DO NOT order any food online from this place. I made the mistake of selecting delivery for my food. Once I placed the order online, the website said more than 60 minutes for delivery. I did not want to wait that long. I immediately called the restaurant, and was asked to call the online company (Clorder). I called the company, and asked them to make this a pick up. They said yes, and I felt good. I started walking towards the restaurant (15 minutes away) when I got a call from the Clorder asking me to not cancel my order, as the order has already been picked up by the driver. I said yes, and kept waiting. I also asked them to coordinate with the restaurant. I waited for more than 90 minutes, and made multiple calls. However, the food was not delivered. The online company promised me at the end of 90 minutes to refund my money. I am sure it will be more calls to get the money actually in my account, if I get it. The problems are: 1) I placed the order through India house webpage. They should be responsible for the food and its delivery, irrespective of any intermediaries they use. 2) They should state the delivery time upfront. This was more like switch and bait. 3) The intermediary (Clorder) does not employ the drivers directly. So there are three layers of non-communicating people between you and the food.

I know that we dont get good authentic Indian food in Chicago downtown as the Indian restaurants also have to consider Americans, most of whom cannot eat authentic spicy food. This place is no exception. If you are Indian who love authentic Indian food, please skip this place. Me and my friend went to this restaurant after watching St. Patricks day celebration. The food was a tragedy. The buffet had very limited items. There was no biriyani item at all in buffet. Rather was some yellow rice which I could not identify as it tasted as plain white rice. Everything was tasteless - no masala or spice. The food was sick and was not worth the price they charge. I would have given 2 or 3 stars for food, but I gave 1 star because of the check I received. When I got the check I was shocked to see there was 18% gratuity. We were just 4 adults and 2 children. My daughter is just 2 years and my friends son is 3 years. Neither of them ate anything. I did not want to argue why 18% gratuity added for 4 adults. Rather I paid the check and left. My friend was very unhappy with me that I took him to such a sick place for eating and he had to pay 18% gratuity (because we were sharing the final amount). Terrible food in a congested place. Please dont waste your hard earned money here..
