went there last nite. seems the waiter couldnt wait to get rid of us, kept asking if we wanted to order. we had a large group and were waiting on one last person to show before we ordered. i ordered the salmon because everything else seemed way overpriced . 50- 60 dollars for a steak is ludicrous. spent like 40 or 50 on salmon. when they dropped off my salad it was not fresh i could tell that right off. appeared as though it had been sitting with dressing on it for quite some time. salad was wilted and too much dressing for my liking. when my salmon arrived, it was a bigger disappointment. the salmon was a big piece of salmon it still had the scales on the underside and to be honest i dont like that i prefer they remove that prior to serving it. it had no vegetables. if you want vegetables, you have to pay extra for them. that in my mind is ridiculous. it came with potatos, which were all stuck together and everyones order came with the same salad and potatos (they were like big potato chips) but not everyone got their own order the waiter brought out 2 plates one for one side of the table and one for the other. not nearly enough for 9 people. the plates the food were served on looked dirty, i looked at them and wondered if they were using the same dishes from 50 years ago. i think they were just worn out is all..... somehow i expected more from this place. when i arrived i was hoping someone would park my car instead no one was standing out front so i parked in a nearby lot. judging the service we received, i guess if i valeted my car it would have come back damaged or something. huge let down 650.00 later. would have hoped the service would have treated us like kings and queens and the food was first rate. i can honestly say neither would have applied. if gene and georgettis was good, it was good a long time ago. it literally stinks now and this was my first time there. i wont be returning or telling anyone about the restaurant other than the place has horrible food they are overpriced their wait staff sucks. thanks alot for the great first impression . ill be going to ruth chris next time .

We showed up a half hour before our reservation to have a few drinks. it was very hard to find the hostess. she was tucked in a corner of the bar and made no effort to greet anybody. once we got checked in there was no place to sit at or even close to the bar and it was very hard to even get a drink. finally we got a place at the bar and got a drink. while sitting there a girl came and sat next to us and through her conversation with the employees i discovered she used to work there. she got a drink and was seated almost immediately while we sat at the bar, now almost 45 minutes past our reservation time. thought things would start looking up. boy was i wrong. we got seated at the absolute worst table in the entire restaurant. we had several parties stop on their way past us and tell us how bad they felt that the restaurant even had seats in the most high traffic location in the building and that we had to sit there. seemed about every other minute someone was bumping into us while we were eating. the whole reason we came to Gene and Georgetti was because it had just been rated the best steak in Chicago. So we stuck it out hoping for a steak that would be unforgettable. When we finally got our steak it did not come close to the quality of the steak we had a Mortons a few months earlier. the overall experience was horrible. plenty of other steak houses to go to in Chicago in my opinion. i will not be back.

We always talked of going to Gene and Georgetti. We wanted a steak dinner late afternoon and to our surprise they were the only steak house serving at that time. We were delighted with our visit. The ambiance was great with the dark wood walls, reminiscing a time past, a relaxing atmosphere. The place filled up as time went on. There were businessmen, people planning to attend a Bulls game, a family holiday gathering, and others. We preferred the main room with the bar rather than a cooler temperature back room with a huge mural. The wait staff, all male waiters, were very attentive and not hovering. I had ordered a filet with no seasoning and was told that the steaks were not seasoned. I love being able to season my own rather than having the taste covered with seasonings not to my liking. The filet and strip steak (which came with their own steak fries and a simple salad, not a la carte) were the real deal, prime meat cooked to perfection. By the way, a la carte is the rule at most Chicago steak houses. So another nice surprise there. And a glass of their inexpensive cab was surprisingly very good! For dessert we shared a classic, crumbly cheesecake reminiscent of a bygone era. A bit off the beaten track, but well worth it!

I had wanted to eat here since I saw the large ads in the "Chicago" magazine and also because I often read about celebrities dining here while in town. It must be good then? NO. When you first walk in, you walk by an old bar and then continue into their old out-dated dining area. Id expected more than this. I thought for sure the food would be outstanding? NO. Its not even average. My boyfriend usually orders a Ribeye and requests the meat to be cooked "well done". His meat came out bloody red to the touch! I always tell him to send it back. His response is that he doesnt want to insult the chef and therefore suffers the consequences. I ordered lobster because they didnt have my usual: crab. The lobster tail was overcooked under the broiler and was almost not edible. We enjoy food at whatever cost as long as its good, but this place wasnt worth the high price and not to mention the lack of parking downtown..ugh! The only good quality is that their service was very prompt and professional. I will NOT patron this restaurant again!

I ate at this restaurant was about close to 20 years ago and I was so impressed with the service the first time my girlfriends and I stepped foot in there. We were in Chicago doing fashion shows for a weekend and walking around to find a spot to eat and decided to find an Italian place to eat and at first we didnt know if we were allowed to go in because it looked like only celebrities eat here, but we werent turned away, we were given star treatment if nothing else! The food was Amazing! Never had to ask for water, napkins, food was hot and Awesome Good! Each time we go back to Chicago I make this one of my stops and tell others to find Franklin and Illinois and look for the brick building that says Gene & Georgettis Restaurant, you cant go wrong when it comes to good eating here.
