An extremely novel experience with pretty good food. Downwind Restaurant and Lounge is located next to an airstrip, inside a flight school. Finding the restaurant is a chore, but the result is completely worth the effort. The decor of the restaurant is plain, but fitting with the location. Seating consists of the entrance area near the bar, a more open area with a better view of the airstrip, and then a patio that looks out onto the airstrip. When we came, there were very few people out on the patio, but I can imagine that this isnt the case during peak hours and in pleasant weather. The view of the airstrip as well as the surrounding area is fantastic. Service was very good. Each of the servers seemed extremely considerate and more than willing to help each other out by checking on tables when the designated server was busy. We had our order taken and food brought to us reasonably fast, and our waiter checked on us regularly throughout the meal. The food was rather good as well. Several unique options, and the quality was pretty good. Value was good, especially for the large portions we got. We got friend pickles as an appetizer, and they were some of the best Ive had. Downwind is definitely worth a visit if youre in the Atlanta area, especially if you dont want to deal with parking and traffic in the downtown district. Finding the restaurant is a bit confusing, but certainly worth a visit for the food and view.

This is a cool little restaurant where you can eat and watch the plane fly. When you enter they have to restaurant so make sure you looking for the right one when you read this. Its a little tricky to find this place because its in a office building and you have to go upstairs. When you walk in theres somebody there to greet you with a friendly face. You get to choose from three places to sit inside the patio and the outside on the deck, yes 3 place to sit from. Our waiter was very nice and was very patient when we were trying to choose. The menu is over all American Style food. I had ordered myself blacken Cajun chicken burger and you get to pick side my side was potato salad. I was hesitant about my sandwich but I decided to take a chance with it and it was really nice and full of flavor, the chicken was so juicy like wow! It comes with tomatoes and lettuces too and oh my grill chicken was big. And yes I also took a chance on that potato salad and that was great too! I was surprised by their potato salad because I thought it would taste different like cilantro or something I dont know why but it tastes like similar to mash potato but cold and the texture was nice to flavor it was hope so good! Everything on the menu was reasonable price and everything looks so good on it I couldnt choose right away what I wanted I am, definitely going back to try some other food!!

Youll never find a sign--this place doesnt need one. The food is good, the atmosphere is fun, and on first and third Fridays you get to hear "The Band of Desperate Men." If you like acoustic music that ranges from oldies to original, sung in harmony by a bunch of talented musicians who love what they do and dont take themselves too seriously, youll love these nights. And for your airplane lovers, the view couldnt be better. Come and see for yourselves by entering the DeKalb Peachtree Airport. by Gee

Food was good, the atmosphere was awesome, but the service was not very good. Took almost 45 minutes to get our food and they didnt send fries out. Asked for them several times and was told that they just got backed up. I understand getting backed up but something as simple as brining out a side of fries shouldnt take so long that everyone, including two kids, were done before they came. Only thing that redeems it is the view and experience for the kids.

My husband and I have frequented Downwind for many years. We love the atmosphere and enjoy watching the planes take off and land. The food is very good (a Greek influence). Sometimes, they have live entertainment (Friday nights I believe). Although some reviewers have complained about the service, we have never experienced any problems and have been treated quite well by the servers.

I enjoyed the atmosphere, the food is fine to the taste, but the servings are small for the price you pay. For example, my "serving" of potato salad came in a tiny container that is more common for condiments. Id been meaning to stop in and eat at this place for years and wife and I finally did recently. The prices/serving sizes will be an impediment to us going back.

Ive been stopping in at the Downwind ever since they opened years ago. Never had anything but a great tasting meal! My favorite is any fish special theyre serving. Their chef sure knows how to cook fish "just right". Their burger has to be the best in town. And the calimare is to die for! Nothing like good food, beer and airplanes! Casual dining at its best!

No matter what food I order here, its fantastic. They have a full bar and a pretty decent selection of cold beer too. The main attraction here, of course, is the unobstructed view of PDK, Georgias 2nd busiest airport. If youre ever in the area and youre an aviation enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to stop in for a quick bite.

Hours online are incorrect! Drove an hour to get here to find only the bar open. Was told hours was posted on the outside of the door and stated they were open till 10 arrived at 9 and was shewed out. Heard great things about this place but will not waste any more time or gas to try it out...

Delicious entree, beautiful view of the flight line.at PDK, and very kind waitress and owner (i think) from Greece). Gorgeous day to relax on the patio. Busy flight line. Some people kept asking.about Downwind Restaurant, so I decided.to veer off course.and experience a hidden gem. Enjoy!

The food is nothing to write home about, Id stick to the burgers. Beer selection is limited, but they do have a full bar. Very nice place to sit outside on a nice day/evening if you enjoy aviation. The place seems empty or completely full. Limited patio seating.

They have live music Friday evening. Not sure whether its every Friday. I had black bean burger. Very tasty! This place also provides a unique experience and kids would love it: watching small planes taking off and landing while dining. I would go back.

Yes, its a bit grungy and divey, but its fun to watch the planes. The food is nothing too complicated, but done well and tasty. My salmon blt had a huge portion of salmon and I left full and happy. They even tolerated my crazy toddler. I like this place :)

Not that great. The food was straight Sysco frozen fare. The burger I had was not good. The beer was cold, the service was good and the atmosphere was unmatched. I think that there may be too much slacking on food because of the draw of the atmosphere.

Sometimes when I go to DeKalb Peachtree airport I stop for lunch at the Downwind Restaurant. I enjoy the great views of the airplanes while eating lunch. outdoor patio and is also up close to the airplanes. You can also hear to airplane engines.
