I was a regular here for months, spending quite a bit on sushi and drinks for myself and my friends. But I noticed their sushi rolls changing within the last couple of months. Rolls that used to be big and beautifully presented became tiny, sparse, they were missing ingredients that had been listed in their description. Even the expensive Tonbo specials that run about $15/roll started looking --and tasting-- generic, cheap, and incomplete. The last time I visited Tonbo I brought this up with my waitress. The most expensive sushi roll on the menu looked identical to another roll in my order that was half the price. When I took stock of the filling, I saw that three or four of the ingredients listed on the menu were not included in this roll. My waitress spoke with the sushi chef and was sent back, red faced and humiliated to tell me that he put everything in the roll. She apologized again and again, stating that he is the manager so she cant do anything, but she could see herself that the roll was incomplete and she was so sorry. I was appalled that this manager would send a humiliated waitress to tell me I was wrong, even when she knew I was right. Ive worked in culinary for many years and this behavior is unprofessional. Since his behavior showed that he doesnt value his customers and that he has no respect for his waitstaff, I will not be patronizing Tonbo again. Id wager to guess that they lost one of their best customers, seeing as how between me and mine, we were spending hundreds a week at Tonbo. We now go exclusively to Kumo on Ridge Rd. Their sushi is a tiny bit more expensive but you get enormous rolls with all the bells and whistles, plus the management is intently concerned with the customers satisfaction. I highly recommend Kumo for all your sushi needs.

Last night I visited Tonbo for my Birthday celebration with family and friends. I thought it would be a fun idea to go to a Hibachi dinner; needless to say I was very upset with my experience. With my party of 12 which I called way ahead of time and made reservations for 8:00 pm, we waited over an hour to be seated. The hostesses kept apologizing to us as we were asking how much longer we would have to wait to be seated. They assured us it would be very soon as over an hour went by, we finally were seated. After that the waitress or whatever you want to call her took our drink order, 30 minutes later we were finally served our drinks by the COOK !! (After we had to complain numerous times) how pathetic is that? We sat there as there were at least 10 waitresses/hostesses lollygagging around talking and joking, meanwhile we can see our drinks sitting at the bar waiting. My boyfriend even had to get up and walk to the bar to get us drinks. It took another hour after that to finally have our food cooked (10:30pm) I will say the cook was very friendly and attentive while the rest of the staff did absolutely NOTHING! I think besides the cooks and bartenders, the ENTIRE staff needs to be replaced! This was very unprofessional and unorganized. I was so upset because I was looking forward to a fun evening and by the time we left (11:00 pm) we were beyond disgusted! The only reason I am even rating 2 stars is because the food was excellent, but not worth all the waiting and horrible service.

My brother, two friends and myself went to this poor excuse of a business last night. While sitting at the bar, the bartender let the sake machine overflow onto the bar. She put a towel on the bar to soak it up and we thought she got it all, but a puddle ran and gathered under my cell phone. We had had a few drinks and the bar is black, so I didnt really notice until we got ready to leave. I wiped the phone off and checked it, and the screen came on, but later that night it would not charge and the screen just flickered. I opened the back and the compartment smelled of sake. I went back the next day to see if anything could be done. They wouldnt even talk to me, give me the owners number, nothing but a "oh well, maybe you can get the bartender to pay for it". You have got to be kidding me. We spent $185 in just that one visit and we love sushi and a simple discussion of how to make it right would not be too much to ask. My brother manages a car dealership up the road with 30 employees, this one bad business decission will cost this stupid business owner maybe $1,000 a month in sales. The food is ok, the service was fine, but the owner lacks common business sense and if you can avoid the place, he deserves any bad mojo that comes his way. Just no common sense or courtesy.

I have to say, there is no better deal than the sushi dinner for two but I am so disappointed with the service. Absolutely horrendous. The last two times weve ordered (a couple weeks apart from each other) weve been placed on hold for 15+ minutes before having to hang up and call back in for someone to take our order. The second time we tried to call back it rang for several minutes before anyone even answered. The first time we went to pick up our order the restaurant was barely busy and no one was at the front desk but there were 3 or 4 waitresses wandering around the mostly empty tables. The second time they called us at 10:05 to let us know the order was ready but when we arrived at 10:10 to pick it up we had to wait 15 minutes while employees just stood around the front counter. Finally our order tonight was incorrect and we had to wait on hold again in order to get it corrected and then drive back to pick up the items they messed up. I dont care how good the sushi dinner for two may be we wont be returning. Its not worth the hassle. Please note weve only ever gotten orders to go so this review is for that experience only, not the dine-in service. The food itself is also pretty good which is the only reason Im giving two stars instead of one.

When you walk in, the restaurant feels small, but its not. To the left you have the traditional sit down dining area with bar and sushi bar, and to the right you have Hibachi tables. This is definitely my favorite sushi place in the New Port Richey, Port Richey, Hudson area. They have a variety of rolls to choose from. My personal favorites are spicy tuna, volcano roll, crispy crunchy roll (although it may be spelled krispy krunchy on the menu). The service is always really good, and the entire staff is friendly. Ive had Hibachi once, and it was really good, filling, and reasonably priced. Hibachi isnt my favorite food of choice, so I always try and get the sushi, but the Hibachi chefs are great, very funny, and friendly. Highly recommend Tonbo for great sushi and hibachi!

Its okay. After several visits Im pretty unimpressed and growingly less enthusiastic about making the trip to dine here. Their sushi rolls are mediocre to say the least, their signature rolls are unoriginal. However the vibe of the restaurant is great and modern as well as family friendly. But if youre coming here for good sushi and good food you might want to look elsewhere.
