By far the worst restaurant Ive ever been too. I work at a restaurant in Disney springs so I know a thing or two about customer service as well as what staff goes through in a running restaurant. My mother wanted to come here for her birthday dinner and slate dropped the ball. #1 my ceaser salad came out with only a drop of dressing on it, as in a single peice of chopped up lettuce, I asked the server if I could have more dressing, he came back and said theyre out of ceaser sauce.. what kind of kitchen sends out a salad knowing they didnt have enough dressing? he offered to take that off for us which I was glad for. Then my mom ordered the grilled romaine salad with chicken ontop & they forgot to add the chicken. our server then apologized half a**ed about it and offered to get her the chicken, she didnt want to wait anymore so she said its fine and the sever seemed glad to hear that. Then as we were leaving my mother ordered the burrata salad to go without onions and thank god she checked before we left because guess what they put onions on it. We got that fixed and left as we walked out the server gave us another insincere sorry again. Its one thing to have kitchen errors, they happen all the time but its how you respond to them that makes up for it. It seemed like nobody there cared. I wanted to speak to a manager but I didnt want to be "that guy" and based on other reviews it seems the managers dont care themselves when issues are brought up to them. I still would have tipped the server 20-25% had I been able to tell that he cared. I honestly didnt want to pay for the meal because at my restaurant my manager would not allow things like that to happen and after 1-2 mistakes we always send a floor manager to touch the table. I do not recommend and I wish I got a refund for sub par food

A stroll through Slate, a relatively recent addition to the plethora of restaurants on Sand Lake Road, will reveal lots of wood and brick, an array of banquettes and tables, and casual bar seating around the open kitchen, grill and, well, bar. And then you round a corner and encounter the massive, hypnotic copper oven, a burnished wood-burning work of art that glows from reflected light, and from which emerges roasted entrees and pizzas that are just some of the delights at this farm-to-table kitchen. The ever-changing menu is divided into Start, Lighter Fare, Pizza/Pasta and Mains sections, so you can grab a quick bite or stick around for heartier fare. Portions are sizable in any case; the dry-aged beef burger is jaw-bustingly large, a savory blend of cuts topped with earthy Gruyere and house onion jam. That compelling oven, a construction of Winter Park fabricators Champion Sheetmetal that wouldn’t look out of place adorning the roof of a Victorian mansion, turns out dishes like the hearth-roasted Gulf Coast red snapper. My serving, on this particular night, should have spent a couple of minutes less time in the hearth, but the flavors were still exactly right, with a mild freshness that belied its saltwater habitat. A mound of zucchini “noodles” was plain in comparison, but excelled as a base for the tangy lemongrass crema that lapped against the snapper. The accompanying cornmeal spoonbread was creamy, soufflé-ish and superb, so expertly cooked that I wanted to order seconds and thirds. The restaurant offers plenty of room to lounge, either inside around the fireplace or on a patio that opens to the outdoors. High wood ceilings are lit by lovely open flame chandeliers, which I’d guess must have required some fancy talking to get approval.

I really enjoyed Slate! Its the latest farm-to-table concept in the Dr. Phillips area. I feel they got it right on many levels...because its not always easy to create a solid, dependable menu with seasonal produce in a unique environment. The entrance feels very exclusive, and almost hidden. The atmosphere is really cool...but very loud. Almost too loud. We headed to the back of the bar to wait for our party and sat in front of the big fireplace. It will be so awesome in the winter months...though I wish the view wasnt of the street. We ordered a drink called Walking on Water which contained Aperol (a favorite Italian aperitif of ours), and it was delicious! We headed to our table and were quickly greeted by our waitress and served beverages. I ordered the Fresh Chicken Salad with kale and raisin vinaigrette. I was a little disappointed with the salad, in that there was no seasoning or marinade in the chicken whatsoever, there were plenty of pieces of chicken fat and even chicken skin? I guess farm-to-table was fairly literal. :) The overall flavor of the salad was impressive since the bitterness of the kale was tamed and balanced well. I also ordered the Green Peas Mac and Cheese and it was DELICIOUS! It made me want to try their pasta dishes next time...which I will likely do. For dessert I ordered the Bing, a chocolate gelato-moose dessert with chocolate cookies and house cherries. Very very good!!! Well definitely come back to try more, but maybe during a time when its less busy/loud so we can hear our waiter and the soft music playing. ;-)

This was our first time trying Slate and the experience was ok. One of the downsides to our visit was we reserved a table ahead of time with a specific view as it was our 15 year anniversary. When we arrived, we were booted from that table because the owners daughter was going to bring in her friends and wanted that area. The table we wanted sat vacant the entire time until they arrived as we were leaving. As far as food goes, we ordered the Roasted Eggplant Hummus for a starter and the New England Flounder and the Smoked Brisket for dinner. Food presentation was well done, and the eggplant hummus dish was a great started. The flounder was a bit dry and Id say the veggies were the best part of that dish. Thankful my wife gave me a couple bites of her Smoked Brisket because it was incredible. Service at Slate was attentive and I enjoyed the High West Campfire whiskey that the waiter suggested. In the end, they came out with a great desert with a Happy Anniversary message on it. My rating would have been a 4, but the dry flounder and personal experience of getting bumped tables even though I called ahead was a bit disappointing.

Noisy restaurant. Obnoxious music! You have to shout to be heard. Once seated, waited 10 mins for a waiter to even come by. Complimentary water. No bread for the table. Nothing. Nada. Ordered a couple of appetizers that were tasteless & overpriced. Ordered the $68 steak which to say the least, was unimpressive. After waiting over 45 mins for dinner to arrive, we managed to flag down our waiter only to be told this steak takes 25 mins to grill and they were running behind. Would have been nice to know that beforehand. Held up everyone elses dinner as well. No apologies from our server or a manager, who should have made a appearance at the table for an explanation! Its your business to know how your staff is performing. The only thing that came out on time was the check - which was upward of $275. Not worth the money. Should have gone to Eddie Vs. They know how to treat a customer and run a business.
