Searching for desserts is a journey alone in Orlando, but we found Mecatos Bakery and Cafe and walked in. I could see the hustle and bustle behind the counter and started to peer into their displays of goodies. I love a good dessert; I am more of a warm, creamy, and sweet type of dessert connoisseur, but chilled is just fine. I set my eyes on their Flan and we picked up a Guava & Cheese Basket as well. The recipe for flan survived the demise of the Roman Empire and spread to countries such as Spain, England and France, and the recipe adapted to the different cultures. In Spain it became a sweet custard, generally made with caramelized sugar. Did you know that? I did not, but Google did. Moving on. So, in the past year I have tried Flan from Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Argentina, and many more countries--and it finally hit me. I like some and the others seem off to me, but in the end there is no right or wrong. I like the smooth jello texture with a bold and sweet caramel base that is poured all over the Flan. When I take a bite I like the melt effect, with the flan hitting the top of my mouth and slowly enjoying it. This bakery does it different, and I am not saying it is right or wrong, but the texture was more clumpy and lacked the dark golden layer. It was eatable, but I enjoy learning the difference in recipes across countries and how they vary. I will stick with Cuban Flan for now. The Guava & Cheese Basket was a treat. Guava is so delicious. It is one of those fruits that is gaining popularity in the U.S. but is not yet mainstream. I love it and this treat was tasty for a dessert that is made to provide happiness around the clock. What you lose, though, is the crust. Crust fresh out the oven makes a baked good so much better, when it is warm and fresh. Crust that sits hardens and crumbles and the texture changes, which really changes the baked good. I bet this Guava & Cheese Basket is amazing when fresh, and I will have to try it like that. The crust was too dry for me, but that is not the fault of anyone, but to be expected when buying bakery goods in the middle of the day.

Espectacularmente DELICIOSO!

The cashiers and servers were nice, but my coffee was cold when it was first served and it took almost 10 minutes to get a second to replace it. My eggs were not cooked how I ordered them (they came heavily basted and over cooked, I ordered sunny side up), and to top it all off my breakfast was served on a small a plastic plate with a plastic fork. I know they are a bakery but if youre going to advertise breakfast, at least do it right. Two stars only for the friendly staff.

Food is good but be carefull when you ask for something "to go". Check your food before you leave the place. I ordered 4 cheese empanadas and they made me wait because they didnt have them ready (no problem) but when I get home I wasnt able to eat one. They need to change the oil!!! it was super old and that change the taste of the food, so bad!!!! You just need to see the color of the food and you can see if the oil was old!! Disappointed

The best bakery in Orlando by far!!! One thing that I miss from back home is great bakeries where everything is scratch made fresh every day. These people make everything from scratch, the use great ingredients and take a lot of care in everything they do. Their coffee is the best coffee in Orlando flown directly from Colombia. You have to try their Empanadas, their Arepas and Quesitos!

Came in and everything in the displays was explained and the guy helped us select a pastery, we decided to get four to try a lot though. Staff was super helpful and the pastries are amazing and very well priced! I got 4 pastries and 2 smoothies for 13 bucks. The smoothies are delicious too. You can tell the mango smoothie is made with actual fruit too.

Good food bad service. Used to order a lot from here and 8 out of 10 they never send the chimichiuri sauce for the empanadas. I just recceived my order and no freaking chimichurri! They need to up their game. Really frustrating as a customer. Dont even bother replying. Whats done its done. Wont order anymore.

Food is delicious however the service is very poor. It took them half an hour to help customers in line. Need to hire more staff to be more efficient

Finally a place that reminds me out south America. Get the eggs, the cheese bread (pan de Bono), and an arepa... And then BUY ALL THE PASTRIES! Yummy
