We had heard about Squid Lips in Melbourne and decided to give it a try, after reading all the positive online reviews. We went there for dinner last night and it was INCREDIBLE! The place has a casual, waterfront feel and is a good place for everything from date night, to friends gathering, to a good place to take the kids. The view of the causeway and the river was stunning. The humidity was too high to sit outside, but we were still entertained by the view from the window next to our table. Our server Christina was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This was especially important as the menu is quite extensive with so many delicious choices to choose from. We started our meal with the Coconut Onion Rings (not always available) which were thick cut yellow onion rings dipped in their homemade coconut rum batter, rolled in shredded coconut, then lightly deep-fried. The rings were perfectly cooked, the batter was delicious, and the dipping sauce was just the right combination of sweet and spicy. For the main course, we split the Oak-Grilled Grouper basted with honey lime sauce. It was incredible! The fish was cooked perfectly, the sauce hightened the taste without overpowering it. Your could taste the smokiness of the oak grill in every bite. The accompanying vegetables were cooked exactly right and the red potatoes were the perfect complement. The food was so good that we tried to eat slowly to make everything last longer! There were other sauces available including citrus butter, honey ginger, cajun seasoning, black cherry pepper, jamaican jerk, apricot ginger lime, and honey rum glaze! We can only imagine how terrific those would have made the fish - but thats for the next time. Served with the meal was a loaf of home-baked bread. We did not find out what was in it, but it had a delightfully sweet hint to it. It was mouthwatering and we could not get enough of it. We cannot wait to go back and happily recommend it.

I decided to go for a drive to Melbourne with my wife and baby son. We like to try different food and places to eat. My wife and i were restaurant/sports bar owners and we know that effective feedback could be beneficial and may improve their service and food quality... Only if they are concern about it. Last night we came here to trip advisor and decided to visit tiki restaurant because of their feedback, but while shopping in melbourne we asked the store manager, a customer listen to the conversation and reffered us to squid lips, so we changed our plan. Here is my input as if i were a mistery shopper: Waitress was good at first. 3 tables, 2 waitress total Brought pineapple coconut bread fairly fast. We ordered 2 michelob ultra bottle to start, warm... Not good Afterward we ordered 2 draft... It was better, fairly cold but not enough. Wife ordered shrimp kbob switching the veggies for cole slaw... Server forgot the cole slaw and the order was wrong, my wife ordered the full order and she got half. Both plate presentation did not deserve a photo, i ordered mahi mahi, and that was not even close to that kind of fish. When it come to price i dont care that much unless the price does not match the flavor, presentation, food quality and quality of service. In this case, value to presentation and value to flavor did not match. I cannot rate this experience terrible because we eat most of it. It is unacceptable that my wife almost finish her plate and thats when the server showed up and we told her about the cole slaw never arrived, she apologized and brought the cole slaw which and tasted good at all. We gave her exactly 15% tip as a courtesy when i usually double up that tip amount for a better service quality. I just wish they can improve so we could visit in the future and recommend their restaurant.

I have to say that I am quite disappointed in this restaurant and what it had to offer. The parking is minimal but theres a lot of space inside and out of the restaurant for seating, so that was good. Our Hostess was very nice and sat me and my children down for a birthday dinner for my 16 year old. Our waitress shows up, never tells us her name and just seems put off by our presence. I ordered the pepper cherry pork chop, which came with mashed red potatoes and zucchini. The pork chop was way overcooked and doused in a cherry sauce that tasted like oversweetened candy. It was far from good and not seasoned well at all. The zucchini was placed on top of oranges and had the weirdest taste and were also overcooked and very mushy. My entire meal consisted of mashed potatoes, a house salad and bread. (My mother always said dont ordered land food from a seafood restaurant). I was compd on the bill but when you go out to eat, you want to EAT. It was obvious that the waitress was blatantly disrespectful because she never acknowledged us properly, had her butt in my face taking pictures of another table without an "excuse me" and when she brought my daughters birthday cake, there was no birthday song for her, like they did the other table...so I sang for her myself. Despite Tinas (my son read her nametag) haughty attitude, I left a reasonable tip for the entire bill but I will never go back there again.

I am not a seafood person. I really hate the smell and the taste of it. But it was my husbands birthday and he was craving some. So off we went in search of a good seafood place. I had seen this place several times going over the causeway and thought why not try it. Needless to say I was very much surprised. It is not a fancy place at all. Laid back friendly staff with classic music playing in the background. It was a windy day so we chose to sit inside. I was very much impressed with the quantity of items on the menu and more than just steaks for the land lover. Husband had the Blackened Mahi Mahi and I had the Black Cherry Pepper Pork. All I can say is that everything was super delicious. The waiter, Charlie, was very friendly and helpful with choosing our food. It was hot and smelled fantastic. So thats the other thing...most seafood places smell pretty rank to me but this one had no fishy smell whatsoever. We didnt have any alcoholic drinks but even that menu looked tasty. So two full meals with bread (very good bread) and two soft drinks came to around 50 bucks. He also decided to have raw oysters which were on the small side but he said they were great and the cocktail sauce was very good. Overall I would highly recommend this place for the seafood and land lover!

I have been going here for a while now and the service is never consistent. When I went last night, I sat on the deck for about 15 minutes and no server asked me if I needed a menu or wanted to order a drink (multiple servers walked past my table multiple times). I finally ended up ordering from the bar and going back to my high-top. When the rest of my large group showed up, I recommended we sit on the beach in hopes of getting better service. Melissa was great at making sure we were all taken care of. I ordered conch fritters and the seared ahi tuna. The tuna was great (a little salty) and the conch fritter tasted good but did not have much conch at all compared to other times Ive ordered it from here. Also, the fritters were a little undercooked in the center. I also ordered a fried clam basket to go. When the kitchen staff brought it out the asked who had the clam basket. Melissa, later on, asked me if my clam basket came out. It was very clear to everyone that I ordered a clam basket; however, when I got home I learned that it was a fried SCALLOP basket, not clams. How does that happen? Did the cook not know the difference? Pretty disappointed with this place. Great location and view though.
