Nommy nom nom in a space way too large for its clientele count. At 6.30p on a Thursday, the place was empty. The restaurant has three large sections and there was not a single customer, hostess or server in sight. After a few moments, a hostess came out and seated me. Still nervous from the dark road on the way here and this empty restaurant, it was a relief when a table of six was seated in my section. Annnnd the food. Strongly recommend the tuna crisps with the cold vs hot and soft vs crunchy textures. Its topped off with a little spiciness. Literally. With a slice of jalapeno on top. Meh onigiri; great rice but slightly dry salmon. Now... the whole reason I came... tonkatsu ramen. In a city with a low real-Asian-restaurant to take-out-place ratio, I was hoping/waiting/wishing I could sincerely say there is a Japanese restaurant. And now I can! Broth was lick-your-lips tasty but not a lot of depth. Noodles are the perfect amount of chewy carby goodness. The soft boiled egg was golden and tasty. And it was cold; do they all have cold eggs? Kushi katsu had the perfect crunch and delicious veggies on a skewer. All in all, I left full and happy to find a place that I can try several things on the menu written in English and Japanese. Also cant wait to try the sushi!

Very tasty Okonomiyaki thats good enough to bring other guests there for second time and them experience something other than sushi. Chief cooks it in the kitchen so not servedTokyo style where customer cooks it on table grill. They carry traditional Japanese Plum wine and good selection of Shochu. True, local servers are not well versed in all things Japanese but were willing to learn from customers that are "in the know". The current owners are doing a fair job of keeping the flavors "close enough" to trad Japan. The one Japanese waiter was on vacation while I visited. The Katsu-don was tasty enough but they mixed potatoes and carrots with the curry making it too much like a local stew... otherwise "close enough". Considering how hard it is to find GREAT Japanese food around Jax area other than sushi, I give it a 4 yet comparing it directly to Japan, Id give it a 2.5 so assigned it a 3.

worst restaurant I have ever been to. lights were dim, lighting fixtures are falling apart. our food came out all at different times so half of our party (who politely waited for everyone to be served) ate cold food. a lot of wait staff stood by the bar and gossiped about people. ramen was undercooked, fish in ramen was clearly frozen and not fresh. sushi rice was terrible. one friend ordered teriyaki-don and got one half of a chicken breast with three cups of over seasoned rice, and that was it (for $13) asked to split the check up, and the server tried to explain that the receipt would say the full amount but that the charge would be less. it was a mistake, we all got charged for the full price of the bill. I will never go here again, and can suggest a handful of other restaurants with actual authentic ramen and sushi.

After spending a few years in Japan, my family and I were missing the cuisine. Tomo Japanese Restaurant did not disappoint us in the least. We indulged in the pork belly ramen, the yakisoba, yakitori and gyozas. They were all delicious....perfectly so! All the dishes were exactly like the ones we had in Japan. The staff was absolutely wonderful! The hostess who seated us was sweet, polite and courteous. Our server, Ashley, was excellent. The Japanese take great pride in their customer service. The superior service is one of the things that we miss the most from there. Ashley could have been trained at one of the best restaurants in Tokyo. She was outstanding! We will definitely be revisiting Toko in the near future.

Sushi was the worst Ive had in Jacksonville. Terrible portions, low-grade fish, overpriced, carelessly made, bad rice. 8 hours later and we realize were dealing with symptoms of food poisoning. Service was awful... there were two other tables in the restaurant, 3 servers, and we still had to tell our server that our food was ready; heard the bell ring twice and server was off making smalltalk. Restaurant was kept warm, shoes were sticking to the floor, place smelled like moldy washcloths. Had to listen to Pandora commercials every 5 mins because they didnt bother purchasing a subscription for their overhead music system.

We hired Tomo Japanese Restaurant to cater our annual Christmas party this past Saturday at our home. Huge shout out to Levi, Eric and Ashley for the awesome food, service and the overall experience of the party. The food was fresh and delicious, the hibachi and sushi set up was beautiful and it seemed nothing was left un-done. Levi contacted us several times prior to the party keeping us informed, which in turn, allowed us to relax. He also followed up with us after to ensure we were happy. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a flawless and absolute wonderful catering experience. Cheers!

Last night was my first time eating from this restraunt in years. I ordered shrimp and chicken hibachi to go. Got home and the portion size was extremely small! The food wasnt remotely like any hibachi Ive had at any other restraunt... Seemed to be an extreme wanna be version of upscale hibachi. Not nasty just wasnt hibachi. And again the portion size. Usually two can eat off of one hibachi plate with possible leftovers, definitely not the case here. Also, I ordered miso soup and they gave me beef broth with fried onion chips in it. Thats not miso. Anyway, I wont be going back.

For me, this place is great. Food was delicious, and everything was served on an extra large plate or bowl!! Loved the okinamiyaki *sorry if I spelled that wrong*.. went with my wife for her birthday. Clean place, location was a bit odd but once inside it feels better.. The Chu Hai was delicious, just like regular juice but with alocohol that you cant taste, but can feel! Lol... I just felt bad that I couldnt finish my food so we had to take it to go. Regardless, if you go here, chu hais and get some sashimi!! I have to pick that up next time..

Great sake selection (cold and hot, filtered and unfiltered), awesome sushi and amazing service. We tried the Vampire Killer roll, the Sunrise roll and the Volcano roll. All three are a bit spicy, which I happen to love. Our server Judy was hilarious and we all laughed until we were crying. I am looking forward to the next time we get to enjoy this wonderful restaurant, its staff and get to try the ramen. I highly recommend it even if you are not in the area.

Everytime I visit this restaurant I am blown away by the food and service they provide. I havent experienced anything more fresh and exquisitely prepared when it comes to Japanese eats as Tomo. Jacksonville is a large city with a lot of copy cats but Tomo is authentic and genuine. Hats off to the owners and all of their hard work they have put in over the past few years. I recommend their ramen burger, lollipop rolls, or any of their pots dishes.

This place was awesome! I went there solo for sushi and sat at the bar on the sushi side. Really friendly staff, gave me samples of different things to try. Great service. Delicious creative sushi, giant pieces I was stuffed half way through. I liked the atmosphere and also locals coming up to buy the chefs a shot or just to praise them on how great the food was. I will be back! I want to try their ramen as well, Im sure its equally amazing.
