Very disappointed, the food on the buffet is excellent, but the several times Ive gone it has gotten worse and worse. First time I went was during the afternoon with my two little ones 3 and then 5 months. It was ok and they didnt charge me for my 3 yr old only the drink, my server was excellent. Next I went with all four of my kids which are then 11 and 9 an the little ones which was also ok and the charged my kids as kids and not adults. So the next time we went it was about 45- 30 minutes till closing and they stated that if we sat at the buffet which they were closing that side that they would not put anymore food. So we ordered and the red sauce they put on the burrito was awful like straight out of a can and tasted like thick spaghetti sauce or tomato paste. Even after that I went again just cause the food on the buffet line is good. but lo and behold I could not believe it a hair in my food. The waiter waited on us well but when I showed him the hair he stated that the cooks wear hats and have their hair tied. He said sorry but all the while smiling like it was funny. I even asked him if he was insinuating that I had done it. When I went to pay a lady told him that she would charge me the bill came out to $36 and some change. I couldnt believe it I asked her if she had taken anything off for the hair and she just told m that is the risk you take when eating a buffet. I was so angry that I didnt look at the receipt and just paid. When I made the calculations they charged my 12 and 9 year olds as adult. much disappointment with the service and for this reason a customer that would have been loyal and came back in future will not be visiting El Potro again.

I used a Groupon Friday, November 6th. We order fajitas. When they arrived, they were not sizzling, or even hot, just barely warm. There was maybe a quarter of a cup of beef on the plate. The beans were sour and so was the rice. I did not eat any of mine with the exception of the first bite of each. My husbands were the same. The chips came to the table with about a cup of nachos and about three tablespoons of salsa. I looked at the waiter as if to ask....really?. I asked for more right away and the same amount came the second time. There were four at our table. I called and asked to speak to the Manager before filling out the survey GROUPON sent after my certificate had been redeemed. I told him of my experience and he stated that GROUPON does an excellent job. I asked if our quantity, including the chips and salsa, was so slack because we were using a groupon and he really did not know. When explaining about the quality of the food, he stated "the cook was having an off day". That was it. I told him I would be sure to note it on the survey. Dont go there. Go to LaNapolera if you want great Mexican food.

This is good Mexican food? I agree with a previous post, FL must not know good Mexican food. Watered down tequila, the margarita tasted like margarita mix so we asked for a extra shot and received WATERED DOWN tequila. Very little if any seasoning on fajitas. We could have had a better meal at Wendys across the street. Would not recommend. Not worth a more than one star, I honestly think they put their own reviews on here to get a better rating.

Please do not go to eat at El Porto Mexican Restaurant located at 7200-12 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32205. I found glass in my beef taco salad of course after in was already in my mouth. Thank God it did not cut my mouth and I did not swallow it. To make matters worse the Manager basically said I was a liar. His exact words were that is impossible the glass was in my food. Really???? He did not even ask if I was okay.

The food is really good. Simple and good. Seasoned perfectly. Well clean establishment. The ambiance is a decent level. Now for the cons: the buffet table is not lit by lamps at all. And im sure the food isnt being held at the proper temperature of 155° f. The food is still heated though, never cold. Servers are friendly.

Ive been to this place one time and the food was so bland I never went back. I am a HUGE fan of guacamole, and their guacamole was horrible. They did not season it or put any onions or tomatoes in it, I think it was just a squashed avocado. The staff was friendly, but the experiance was as bland as their food.

I drive across country.an mexican food is a art to prepare this place needs help the burritos had no taste and were just thrown together.the tortillas were hard. No spices at all.they need to hire a mexican cook from south Texas or southern California.wont go back ever bad food.

Upon entry there were 5+ tables that hadnt been cleared. One table was occupied so why werent the others cleared/cleaned? One Mexican beer on tap & it was empty. Salsa was ok, chips were decent. Food came out fast and was decent at best. Gave it one try, wont go back.

Buffet was terrible. Tamales were like beef jerky, they had tortilla knots with no filling and potato filling taquitos. Basically everything was stale, overcooked or of poor quality. There are much better buffets with much more food for a lot less money.

Cant speak for the buffet, but I had the best quesadilla (shredded chicken and cheese) Ive had in Jax yet here. Enchilada plate was also on point. Definitely making a star on this place on my map to come by again.
