Overall, Ive usually had good experiences with Bento. Despite the apathetic staff, and the strange, cheap paper prom-like decor, the food has always been good, and it has become "the spot" to hit up when I and my best friend get together for lunch. However, after my last experience, I sadly admit I shant be returning to one of my once favorite restaurants. "Why?" You ask? One word: ROACHES. Thats right, big ones too, and a LOT of them. Upon my latest visit with said friend, after a long wait since our last visit (several months), we sat down to our usual Spicy Cream Chicken rice bowl (DELICIOUS!) and her Curry Shrimp Rice Bowl (also DELICIOUS!) and during the course of our long catch-up chat, witnessed 3 roaches. The first climbed up behind our booth, and after informing the staff (who seemed unsurprised and unconcerned), they made minimal efforts to kill it and just let it run up the wall. The same thing happened AGAIN this time the roach appearing on the wall immediately NEXT to me, this time, however, one waitress took initiative and killed it. This was, needless to say, the last straw and we gathered our things to leave, not before witnessing one more under the sushi bar, though. We left without a single apology from the staff, a manager, or anyone else. Apparently for them, it appears this is a typical occurence. Which leads me to believe the place MUST be infested with them. I shant be returning. In fact, I called the health inspector. Sorry, Bento. Perhaps youll exterminate, revamp, and get up to parr with other Bentos. Good luck.

Bento Cafe is an American Asian casual restaurant. To say it is authentic sushi or real Asian cuisine of any variety would be a disservice. Dont get me wrong, the food is pretty good but its not authentic anything. The interior and layout are nice and modern and as a nice surprise there was a very talented live musician playing while we were there. Id say it is otherwise on the quiet side inside. Our server was efficient and friendly enough but quite useless at helping us understand the menu. At one point we asked her what the difference was between the menu items that were listed as "Wok Stir Fry" vs "Fry" vs "Grill" items as the menu gave no indication. She literally told us, "The Wok Stir Fry is, like, fried in a wok, the Grill items are, like grilled, and the Fry items are, like grilled, I think." It may have been the best explanation I have ever received at a restaurant (note sarcasm). We ended up just taking a gamble and got a mix of things. The Stir Frys we shared were a bit bland and nothing too exciting but decent for American Asian. The sushi was disappointing except the Bali Hai Mango roll which was a surprising success. Overall it was a decent place for a date but there are much better Asian places around if thats what you want.

Decided to check this place out after someone on Reddit recommended it. The cute waitress up front took my order and I paid for my food and found myself a seat. I ended up sitting at the sushi bar. Bento Cafe had a nice atmosphere going on and it was pretty clean on in the inside. It was a little after lunch on a Friday and it was pretty busy. I was hoping for some sushimi but I ended up ordering the ginger salad and the sushi lunch box. The ginger salad was the best ginger salad ive ever had at a sushi restaurant. I loved the ginger sauce. It seemed to be a mixture of ginger and soy sauce. The salad was big for a side ginger salad. The main meal did take a long time for them to serve me. After a while, someone did come up and ask me if I was waiting for my food and about 5 minutes later my food was given to me. No worries. Sushi was good. I had gotten the pick two rolls which came with a california roll and a small seaweed salad. Overall the food was good and the price was decent too. My favorite was the side ginger salad. I would recommend this place to anyone. The location is great if your looking to shop before or afterwards as the cafe is in a huge outdoor shopping mall.

Ordered food for my wife, son and I, then waited at our table. My sons food came, then my wifes food came, and mine never did. Finally a server asked if I ordered anything, I said yes, and he went to check on it. Came back and said "Sorry but she didnt ring you up for anything else". So I told him what I ordered and he apologized and rung it up and brought me the check. He said he told the manager about it but nothing was offered. My family was done long before my food came. Nothing was offered, no discount, no food comped, nothing. Why would I come back here? I asked the server that, and he said he understood and he said he tried to get the manager to do something but she would not. In any descent restaurant that makes a mistake AT LEAST the manager come over to apologize. WAY too many good sushi places in the same area to ever go back to this one.

This place is the Taco Bell of Sushi joints. Its an over priced menu for the food you get.My husband and I ordered a total of 5 rolls and 2 drinks and it was almost $60! I was able to special order a roll but it took so much longer to receive than the rest of my food that I didnt even want it when it finally came out. Also, they dont seem to understand conventional naming where Sushi is concerned. Every other place you go to and order a Philadelphia roll (they call theirs a Philly Roll) youre going to get a roll that has salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. They make theirs with a cheap initiation crab meat and when I asked the waitress about it when she checked on our table she argued with me about what a Philadelphia role is! Poor choice. There have to be better sushi places in Jacksonville than this! Ill keep looking.

Nice after noon outing with a friend today. Upon entering, we took time to review a menu, then placed our order. I also got a couple of items to take out. We selected a table and were given cups for the beverages we had paid for with our order. Within minutes we were served. The food was good , portions were a bit small;..... otherwise,it was just as ordered. Beverages are at rear via machine, along with ice. The table, in that area, also had of sliced lemon for the verities of teas offered. The prices were....well, pretty much fair. I, and my guest, were satisfied with our overall experience. The room is open; but had a quasi cozy feel. There was, also, available seating and service outside, I actually waited for my guest at one of the umbrella shaded tables.
