My husband and I frequent Kumo often, but it seems like lately, the service has gone downhill-quickly. We were in there for lunch today, and we ordered sushi and habachi. The food-as always-was excellent; the service was awful. We got our drinks and food-no problem there, but the lady dropped our food/drinks off so fast, we couldnt get a word in edge-wise. We needed refills; our server was nowhere to be found. When she did come by, she glanced over, then was gone again. We needed napkins, refills, and another sauce; we got none of the above. Twice, she even came over and tried to literally take food away from my husband (literally mid-bite both times). Im sorry, but thats a deal-breaker. As a server, you have ONE JOB-make your customers happy. Im pretty nice, but that was just too much. After waiting for the bill (OH-we had to wait several minutes to get our bill and get our card back once she ran off with it too, wasting another 10 minutes or so of our time), I paid the bill, and we left. My husband is a disabled veteran, and he walks a bit slow, so I was holding the door going outside when the server ran out, basically accosting me, to inform me that I hadnt left a tip. I confirmed that I had not left a tip, and it almost became a knock-down, drag-out fight! She was basically yelling at my in front of the restaurant that since I didnt leave a tip, we were broke and we shouldnt come back. I said that it didnt matter if we were billionaires or paupers; we were not happy with her service. Im not sure if her English was a little shaky, but she just kept reiterating that we needed to leave a tip, as it was "not included in the bill." I finally just had to be rude and turn away from her, and returned to my car (my husband was already in, seat-belted in, and waiting, it took so long). As I mentioned above, we have always been more than happy with Kumo, and this review should in no way infer that their restaurant isnt worth going to, but I would like to stress that you should probably avoid the female server with the long, straight pony-tail, if you dislike confrontation. The other waiter there, the male, has always gone above and beyond, but I dont think its appropriate, or professional, to be accosted in a public parking lot, being accused of being broke, when your customer service probably warrants you being fired.

Went to this location for 1st time as the North Port location had poor reviews. I love hibachi and can tell you my favorite places from Key West to Ohio. As usual, the food was great, except I cant eat much past the sushi roll my boyfriend and I split. And then the soup and salad that I always adore was great. I was given extra rice and veggies to compliment my Filet and lobster combo, as the chef accidentally flippes a few grains of rice in my wine. (No complaints from me, as that is just an occupational hazard...haha). The Filet was a bit chewy (under cooked)...but later after I got home, I warmed it up and it was good. I cookedd the plum wine..and the serving size is nothing to complain about! My only issue was that my boyfriend and I are both 38 years old and we were seated with a full table of young adults from 17-21 yrs old, celebrating a birthday for one of them. Im generally very social, and is one of the reasons I love hibachi. However, listening to these kids insult the chef by calling him names like "play station", asking him if he knows what Naruto is, then laughing at him for how he says his name, is just rude and immature. The chef composed himself very well and he did an excellent job. I just wish we were seated elsewhere, as the conversation was less than satisfying and made me feel like I was at the childrens table at Thanksgiving. The hostess should have taken more care to seat us with like company. i would have rather had sat with ten 5 yr olds, than the group we were seated with.

we went here after DH read reviews...disappointment followed. Shumai were missing any shrimp. After eating the first one and tasting only wrapper I opened up the rest and it was all wrapper. Plus they put a sweet sauce on top, not the traditional soy+mirin dipping sauce. I also ordered deep-fried tofu. another disappointment. HUGE cubes that could not be lifted to dip or even eat. I suspect they do not have a Japanese chef. Dont seem to know how to cook Jap. food. Sushi was average tasting but 25% more cost than Bushido which is the gold standard in Venice. Guess the good reviews were placed by owners/friends. The service however was excellent and other diners at the teppanyaki grills were having a good time. Everything is in one open room so if you dont like smoke, shrieks from children and easily amused adults this may not be for you. Not a bad place but next time its back to Bushido for us.

My wife and I have eaten at both locations. The Cape Coral location serves about half the food the Ft. Myers location gives you from the hibachi. We have friends that have stated that they noticed the same thing between the 2 locations as well. Each order from the hibachi also includes 2 shrimp. If you get the Chef we had at the Cape Coral location, you better be ready to get those shrimp by catching them in your mouth like dog treats. I will return to the Ft. Myers location. I will never walk thru the doors at the Cape Coral location again. Service at Cape Coral Location would have to be rated at 1/4 star. Thats right, not even one star for service. Our waitress had 3 hibachi tables, and couldnt keep up with drinks much less get the soups and salads on the table in a timely matter.

I have been coming to this place a lot. And before they did the renovation the last time we ate here they put the tip on the bill which we did not want to pay because the service was beyond terrible! They forced us to pay the tip. Since the new re model we decided to go back again an give them a try since we LOVE the food and the yum yum sauce. But once again the service was even worse. We didint get our drinks refilled until we asked twice. And we sat in our seats waiting over an hour an a half for a cook because they apparently only have 4 cooks and they have 12 hibachi tables completely full. They have more people seated then what they can handle since they only have 4 cooks. Extremely disappointed. Need more cooks and better servers with good communication.

terrible terrible terrible..... 8 of us went for lunch, no hibachi running at that time we all ordered everyone got their food except for me.... (mine was a simple house fried rice) after everyone had finished lunch the waiter brought out take home boxes and stated that my food was about to come out.... WHAT! ??? Sorry, but we were leaving we told him and he said he would take it off the bill.... i had two drinks while i was there.. was i comped for them? NO! what a frightful mess of a restarant!!! Manager came over to see if all was good as we were leaving we told her of the incident , she said "sorry , i dont know why it took so long?" need to manage your place a lot better was my response ...i will never step foot into that place again!
