I visited La Chaumiere for restaurant week -- and cant say I was 100% impressed with what I ended up getting. The muscles were a bit dry and small (potentially overcooked) the blue cheese salad was over priced by about 5 dollars (although the blue cheese dressing was rich and creamy). The salmon was wrapped in pastry which was interesting (and honestly resulted in my rating this better than I may have) -- however I wished the pastry was cooked more so it would flake better. The shortrib was a bit over seasoned and the pasta was an after-thought. The chocolate moose and peach ice cream were okay but not mind blowing. The service was a bit rushed with people running back and forth constantly dropping spoons and forks and tripping over each other -- which made the atmosphere seem more rushed and less pleasant. With that being said the service was nice and I had no problem with the actual waiter. The location is very homey -- with an old time cottage feel -- a bit cramped but in Georgetown I have come to expect this. Finally the pricing was a bit high -- but again... Georgetown so you come to expect a higher price point. Overall the meal was acceptable but I left not sure I would ever return.

Wed met an associate here for dinner and were not impressed. It was difficult locating the Escargots en Coquille in the serving dish within the tablespoon of parsley although once found were ok but not bursting with flavor as escargots should. Id had the Moules Mariniere and they were more bland than Ive ever had before - I would not order these again. Our associate (when not attempting to rub my foot under the table) had the Dover Sole and I much prefer Winter Flounder from the Barnegat Bay. My Significant Other had the special, Grouper, and I have to say that was outstanding - this is highly recommended. I could not get enough of this and he was kind enough to share this with me and for that I am grateful. So he and I did manage to share a nice dinner in spite of the other shortcomings. We would not return although the ambiance is pleasant, aesthetically cordial and warm. The service, however, is excellent.

We had dinner at La Chaumiere last night before a concert at the Kennedy Center. This is a fabulous old style French restaurant in the heart of Georgetown with all the old classic dishes. I had the Trout Almonde and my partner had the duck breast with currant sauce. Both dishes were expertly prepared and just outstanding. The real star of the evening was the Grand Marnier Soufflé for dessert. The Pastry Chef makes them by order so I suggest ordering one with the meal, since it takes at least 20 minutes to create this superb dessert. Not one to be missed! Our waiter, Sami, was attentive and did an outstanding job making this dining experience memorable. A Georgetown institution not be missed!!!

This place is worth the hype. The food is excellent; the service is great. I ordered the calf brains and was blown away; I highly recommend this dish. Others in my group enjoyed their dishes as well. The appetizer was equally superb (prosciutto with figs.) The food is well worth the cost. My only word of caution: the wine list (extensive) is overpriced. We selected a $40 bottle of the house wine; the menu claimed the year was 2012 but our bottle was from 2014 and the wine was not very good. They have bottles than cost several hundred dollars so if you have the money, I guess you can consider that!

Food is ok - service too but I have the bad habit of ordering decaf coffee with my dinner (I do not drink alcohol and avoid caffeine). I made it very clear that I wanted ecaf and when the busboy came to refill my cupI asked him again "is it decaf?" and he acquiesced - I had 3 cups - next thing you know it is 2:27 p.m. and I am wired. Not cool Chaumiere people ! The response from the owner, Martin Lumet, "Your lack of sleep could well be attributed to others factors". Ah the French arrogance and sense of business - I felt right at home.

I would certainly come back here. The food was reasonably priced ($25-40 plates) in an intimate, cottage atmosphere. The restaurant is centered around a fireplace and is surrounded by high wooden beams with a rustic feel. I came here for a romantic dinner on Valentines Day, and it delivered. I ordered the venison and had the bacon and garlic wrapped escargot. The wine selection was great as well. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation, as the seating is limited.

Locally sourced, delicious French food! Impressed with the vast wine selection and was given an excellent recommendation by the Maitre d. I cant say enough about the dining experience here, nor their customer service. Between the fabulous chocolate souffle, the pate, and the duck I was overwhelmed at the choices to choose from. Choose the souffle definitely! Of course, youll need a lovely Aperitif afterwards.

Very good service, but very mediocre food. Had the duck which must have been shot over a lake of sauce because it was drowning in sauce. Could not really taste the duck because The sauce was so overwhelming. Lobster bisque soup, was also very mediocre. Entrées ran from $21 to over $30. For these kinds of prices, I expect the food to be much, much better.

If you like the classics, you will love this place. The best Dover sole I have had in a while, lamb chops to die for, start with the escargot or the amazing french onion soup. Lovely staff takes superb care of you in a cozy, warm atmosphere that allows you to take your time and enjoy a great dining experience. Also, leave room for the desserts! YUM!

Very pleasant dining experience. Loved the decor - youre transported from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown to a charming French country home. Genuine, delicious food. Try their house special boudin. Ive never had richer sausage - amazing. The staff is so warm and polite - traits not always known for a French restaurant.

Food was hit and miss. Duck was incredible, but the rest of the dishes were okay at best. Souffle is good. Order it with your meal so its ready when youre done. If not, youll be jealous when you watch every other table get theirs. If youre under 50 theres a good chance youll be the youngest in the building.

First time having French cuisine, wasnt sure if Id like it. I loved it! Fantastic food. Plenty of options for even picky eaters. Atmosphere is like stepping into a French country inn. Fantastic place to dine; would recommend going at least once for the experience!

Went during Restaurant Week! Pretty busy but our waiter balanced it all well and it was entertaining to watch the french staff interact with each other. The food was good! And for dessert the Pear Belle Helene was outstanding!!!

Visited La Chaumière with my lovely girlfriend and we both loved it. The food is perfection from the oysters for appetizers to the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. The service is equally perfect.

The food and service were wonderful, but the website menu prices are considerably out-of-date. Add 15-20% to what you see online.

I love French food. This place is the best in terms of food quality, service, and atomosphere. I will be back, again and again.
