Im Indian, have been in the US for 3 years. Born in the South, raised in the North, so Im very familiar with authentic Indian food. Food : Americanized Indian food, Was missing many spices and condiments that is otherwise present in Indian food. Dont understand the hype about the place and all the authenticity. - Ordered Indigo Special, Spicy masala chicken, rotis, Pav bhaji( I make better ones at home). Whats the big deal with their rotis, I dont understand. It was very average, regular looking roti that you make at home, Infact you can make better looking ones at home. I tried two types of rotis, though they were soft and sadly small, it was pretty much the regular wheat roti, for $1 it wasnt value for money. For those bachelors who miss home, or those who dont cook indian food at home, it may sound refreshing, but thats about it. Location-Honestly, sucks. The area can come across as sketchy even if you understand DC. Better avoid metro, risky walking through a tunnel. Use the street car from Union Station instead, rather than NOMA. Ambience: boring inside, better outside. The place has some character, with cheesy quotes from the 90s, probably may suit others tastes. Service: Quick!

Best Indian food Ive ever had! Holy cow! How did I not know about this place?! Was visiting DC (from Baltimore area) with a friend this past week, and we were craving some Indian food. Pulled up Yelp, saw this place, and decided to give it a try - and Im so glad we did! Their Palak Paneer was /to die for/, as was... well, everything we had there! We got one of their big 5-entree plates and split it, and split a dessert as well. Everything was amazing. Little place, but in a good, cozy way. Well decorated, very clean, and the staff was incredibly friendly and nice. Prices are incredibly reasonable as well! This is good enough that I will make a trip into DC just to have it again! 5/5 WILL eat there again!

This is my girlfriends and my favorite restaurant at which to eat when she picks me up from the airport. If she had to choose between the butter chicken and me, she would totally choose the butter chicken. [sigh] Personally, I think their daal makhani is the best, but their chicken tikka masala and garlic naan are also great! She also convinced me to try their mango lassi. ...shes so wise ;) Convenient street parking, easy to find, and quick to order. Its a little pricey, but for quality Indian food its pretty reasonable, and I would definitely recommend for an unforgettably romantic date night out on their lit patio. One of my favorite memories :) Enjoy!

The food at Indigo appears simple, but the flavors have remarkable depth. Indigo is known best for its range of Indian pairings and the reputation is well deserved. A host of other goodies, including their nan, outside seating, and delicious wine keeps me coming back! Plus, they know my order by heart by now. The shop is both clean and tidy—despite having limited space and more customers than can fit inside at one time—and all the staff members there greeted my companions and me with smiles as warm as the nan they serve there. I would thoroughly recommend Indigo to anyone with a knack for spicy or flavorful food. I know Ill certainly be returning soon.

This is food for folks who have no idea what indian food should taste like. One would hope that by now with places like Indique and Bindaas and Rassika that this kind of food is only proper for those who dont have a clue what a Roll is. A roll is a roti with egg and grilled meat with onions wrapped so tight that you can eat it without a plate or utensils. What we had was a roti wrapped around lamb curry without the gravy. There was no sizzle, no spinach and no onions. The Baigan bartha was inedible. Bah Humbug

How have I lived in DC for 7.5 years and just now discovering this place?! Its in a fun part of town (NoMa) and is a DC hidden gem. An Indian family owns and runs it out of a townhouse with plenty of outdoor seating. You order inside from the dozens of options and they bring your food out to you. The roti is good and the good decent. Im giving this four stars for the experience but if you want real five star Indian food, youll have to head to Alexandria for Dishes of India (the best in DC)!

Anyone who does not give this place 5 stars does not have taste buds. I have traveled the world over and this is absolutely the best Indian food I have ever had outside of India. Every time I order I always get 2 meals worth. I cant help myself. The only downside is the wait. This place is always packed so it always takes a while to get your order. Sometimes as long as 30 minutes. It is well worth the wait. I would sit outside in the rain for a couple of days to get this food.

A very highly rated (over rated) restaurant did not meet my expectations. After 30 mins of waiting, i was told that cashier did not include what I had asked for. Taste is average and better than all other DC namesake indian restaurants in and around the mall.Tandons should seriously re think about who they have at the cashiers desk. Its a hole in the wall place mostly for 20s some, singles and to go orders. Wont recommend for family or family style dining.

Come here for the funky atmosphere, relaxed outdoor seating (which they had to fight the zoning NIMBYs to keep), and apparently liberal policy about writing on the wall. The food is Americanized but fun. Can food be fun? I dont know, but it is here. Plus, their "thalis," or platters, let you sample lots of options. Its a head scratcher that those arent more common at Indian restaurants. Bonus points: Great place to introduce mom and dad to Indian fare.

This casual Indian restaurant has mostly out door seating and a pay at the counter service. The menu is written on the wall and there are many options. It was a little confusing for a first timer just visiting DC, but the food was great and the portions are large. The staff was really nice and the food came out quickly. I took my food to go because I was in town for business, but if I had company I would definitely have stayed to enjoy the atmosphere.

There is nothing special about this place. The food is mediocre, portions are small, everything you order comes in one plate and everything is on top of each other. The roti/bread is 1/3 of the normal Indian bread you get here in the US and it had no taste. The rice tasted like it was boiled in water without any salt or spices, and their special Indigo chicken was not so special. I paid $4 and some change for half a cup of what they call Masala tea.

Delicious fast-casual Indian restaurant. Ordered the butter chicken and palak paneer. The butter chicken was delicious, but I was floored by the palak paneer. It was the smoothest Ive ever tasted. When you arrive you go inside to order. There is very little space inside to eat, but there is an outdoor patio with a bar, which is really nice on a nice spring or summer night. I wish I lived closer. Id be there every day.

Came here with a coworker to enjoy a lunch and beer. Indigo served that purpose, but not much else. The food is quite expensive for the portion size, which would make one think the food would really stand out. Unfortunately thats not the case. The menu is essentially a la carte and everything is piled into one plate. I was excited about this place, but just a day later I can barely remember what I ordered.
