Absolutely terrible place. We went there as a group of five. Ordered samosas and mango lassis as starters. The samosas arrived which clearly looked re-fried. After that we wanted to start with two entrées and naans and order more later. The waitress, who had no smile on her face, showed us the menu card where it was written in the bottom of the last page "minimum one entrée per person", as if we should have known that before entering the restaurant. We said that we may not be able to eat so much as we already had samosas and mango lassi, and it was just 5pm. She rudely said in broken-English that she will give us boxes. It was not an option for us as we were on walking tour. We asked for sometime and then decided among ourselves to not order anything at all from the entrée section to meet their "rules and regulations" and instead order pakodas and biryani. Over-oily pakodas came followed by waitress coming over with biryani and two entrées, naans and rice which comes with entrée. We said we asked had asked her to cancel the entrées and get us just the pakodas and biryani. We never said to add up the order. She insisted we had ordered everything and called the owner to the table. Mr. Khan, a Pakistani, who owns the place was the most rude person I have ever come across in hospitality industry. He started saying that he pays the rent of $10,000 per month, and that it is a fine dining restaurant, and we can not order less food. Wow! Fine-dining restaurant? The washroom was so dirty, and the hallway to the washroom looked like living quarters! It was clearly a case of the waitress making a mistake in order-taking because of her poor english. We refused to take what we had not ordered. Mr. Khan left the table saying unpleasant things which were clearly meant to be overheard. We asked the boxes for biryani, paid the bill and left with the most horrible experience in a "fine-dining" restaurant.

The place was a little smaller than I expected but wasnt bad necessarily. The service was good and helpful when we had a question. The food was really good, including, the Garlic Naan bread, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Chicken Makhani. There was a dispute between whom, I assume is the business owner and a customer over a groupon. Apparently, you arent allowed to use one ($10 for $20) unless you are with two people or more, which I bought one that same night and no where does it say that. I dont know what happened in the end as we left before things got too confrontational. They do a lot of take out and delivery orders (owner was on the phone almost non-stop filling order and disputing charges over delivery fees, understandably) so that tells me that others enjoy the food. Overall the place was good and would go back again if I am in the area. Just make sure you have two people dining if you plan on using the groupon.

There are a few things that I will never forget about living in the District - the historic monuments, the incredible humidity during the summer, and the delicious Indian food at Aatish on the Hill. I have to say that in the two years that I have lived here, there is not one place that comes close to how delicious their food is. Think Im exaggerating? I have eaten at every Indian restaurant in DC. While they do serve a purpose, they dont leave me satisfied. At Aatish, I feel like Im eating at a friends house. The staff goes out of their way to ensure that I have a relaxing and delicious meal. And the food! It is beyond comparison. It has that made by your grandma, home-cooked feel. My favorite is the chicken Makhani accompanied by outstanding garlic naan that will dazzle your taste buds. Do yourself a favor. Stop by Aatish while your in Capitol Hill.

Pathetic food and extremely rude staff behavior. The Owner/manager will force you to shell out 18% tip no matter how bad the food & service is, also beware if you are going in a large group coz you will be forced to order 1 entrée per person. The reason given on being asked here is they have to pay a rent of 10,000$ every month for the place! When we refused to tip them for the bland food & shoddy service, the owner went to the extent of being abusive towards the desi community in stating he would much rather prefer not to serve them. If only 0 stars could be given to this place..Visit here if you want to spoil your day and waste your time and money!

Will definitely cheat you on the price! Honestly the food was very good. We had a large group and the service was adequate, but be careful! They will offer you things like they are complimentary that you will later have to pay for. This includes bread with your meal and even dipping sauce for the table. Also, if you make a reservation as "one group" they cannot actually split checks according to your meal so some people will get cheated on price. My meal came out about $10 higher than I expected. Good food, but weird price hike was not worth it. Also-there is ZERO atmosphere if you are looking for a total experience.

5 of my friends including me had a coupon here for buy 1 get 1 free so we decided to try it out. The food was great, but came time for our bill, we were a bit shocked at it. The bill had no run down of what was what, and the server took an appetizer off our bill rather than a meal to honor the coupon. He was very sly in making sure we didnt know what we were being charged with, and he didnt fully honor the coupon that he, himself put in the paper! The food was wonderful, but I will never be going back since I felt like the performance of business on good measure was poorly conducted at the restaurant. So, please beware.

On wednesday 6/26/2013 i came to eat with my friends, the service was very very poor i had a question but the waiter was NOT paying attention at all he was on his phone. Mr khan was going back and forth the other one guys service was not good enough. I would suggest other people to not to come to this restaurant ( BAD SERVICE). i expected the unexpected. And the papadam plates were not clean, it had little dirt on it. and also i saw a big fat mouse on the floor. And the waiter looked little bit mad. This restaurant needs to develop a lot. i would not come back to this restaurant.

I have ordered from this establishment many times. I have previously run into the issue of their menu having a lower advertised price than when I called in for my order. Tonight I encountered a very rude and unprofessional manager by the name of Khan. I was placing my delivery order and he pushed me to add a tip to my card. I explained to him that I do not feel comfortable adding a tip prior to receiving my service. As if that request was not enough and frankly illegal, he told me he will be canceling my order since I did not want to add a tip ahead of time. Be warned!

Nothing in the buffet tasted like it should - and the lassi was watered down! They barely had anyone there - that should have sent signs - but wed traveled far to find good food and didnt want to go back with an empty stomach... This place was the pits - it felt bad paying hem for the horrible food. They should have paid us - it felt like we were part of some knd of science experiment...these guys were staring at us while we ate.. the used dishes werent cleared quickly enough and we were rushed out
