When I got to DC to join my dad for a weekend and see my brother, my dad kept raving about his favorite place for coffee: Bourbon Coffee. Although he usually goes to the other location and it was closed, I was so happy when I saw that this location was open. Mind you that my dad usually only drinks black coffee, he told me how Bourbon Coffee is the only time he splurges on coffee, and I knew since he hardly spends anything in coffee it must be special. - And boy was he right. If you didnt know there are only four locations of Bourbon Coffee (with a fifth coming soon according to their website). I stopped in at the Capitol Hill location before I had to catch the Metro to DCA to head back to Chicago. When I got there, it didnt seem like much was going on- but when I entered the shop I noticed how many people were inside. Every seat that was in the establishment was taken with people reading books or doing work on their laptop while enjoying some coffee of course. I ordered the "Honey Cinnamon Latte" and when the barista handed it to me for me to put a lid on it I could smell the cinnamon that was in it and when I tasted it I could get the distinct taste of both the sweetness of the honey (not overpowering) the spice of Cinnamon that was in the coffee as well. I like to believe I am a coffee critic since Ive been drinking coffee for a long time now, but I would categorize this coffee as some of the best I have experienced. The coffee is comparable to Wormhole Coffee back in Chicago (which is a great compliment). The location of this coffee shop was well picked out - youre by the capitol which is great if you have a lot of time and can tour around. However, I had to head back to the airport to go home to Chicago and there was a Metro station less than a block away (Eastern Market Metro). If you ever are wandering around DC, this is especially a place to pop into for a quick coffee to go or enjoy in shop. I defiantly understood why my dad splurges on coffee at Bourbon Coffee now.

Hardworking team, clueless management. Was in town for the Womens march. Clearly the management had no idea how to handle a high demand situation. Early in the morning, the shop was out of simple food, like bagels, and the line was out the door, and moving pretty slowly. Employees were working quickly, but there just werent enough of them. Perhaps management could have staffed up (and ordered more food) for the event. Perhaps they could have set up a coffee only line so people who didnt want a complex coffee/smoothy could just get a coffee and move on. Perhaps they could have offered coffee and a bagel for $4 (or whatever) as a separate line so they could move more volume and satisfy more customers. Alas, they did none of this so kudos the the people working that day, but management surely needs to learn from the event. In the meantime, I would avoid this place during the times any event is being held in the area.

Good place for coffee. I came in today, a Saturday, and was able to have a nice cappuccino. Luckily there was plenty of seating. Which can be rather difficult to find on a Saturday. The staff is very friendly and made the coffee in a short amount of time. The coffee quality was rather good, but the milk couldve been a little warmer. The cappuccino is naturally a little sweet, so there is little need for sugar added. Nice environment and clean facility

Its not clear to me where the former coffee shop, "Pound" ended and the new coffee shop, "Bourbon Coffee" started, but the dividing line is not the issue. Both businesses are/were respectable and provide good service. The staff is fine, though often was/is inconsistent. Somehow the Pound, home-run, Nutella scone has disappeared from the menu which, after driving for 20 minutes and the only reason for visiting, leaves me baffled.

The coffee and panini I had were solidly mediocre. Maybe a bad day, who knows. Staff was very friendly and I like the patio (yes it has outlets!). Good place to work, wouldnt recommend for food purely based on what I had, but they have a lot of stuff on the menu so Im sure some of it is good!

Slowest service! Ive been 5 times and the first experience was great. After that the other four were terrible. Tiffany never put my order through and after that she got the order wrong.. Twice. Within a 15 minute time period.

A good place to enjoy a coffee or tea. They offer some food assortments, but there are better options around it. With that being said the atmosphere and music really stands out and makes any activity more enjoyable.

Love this place. The chain is a great concept and Virungas now my favorite coffee. Usually take the pastries home to warm in the microwave. Thanks, guys, for coming to the neighborhood!

Really cute coffee place with the main entrance, a hallway with tables, and a sunny room at the end of that. The Mexican Hot chocolate is spicy and delicious! And they have wifi.

Good coffee/espresso... But Peregrine down the street is better. Good breakfast sandwiches, but pastries are dry and disappointing. Lots of room to post up with your laptop.
