Compass cafe has the tastiest coffee, makes Starbucks look sad, and its superior to Java cafe, both roast their own beans. Interesting sandwiches, brodys(named after a Dutch sandwich) and cake things. Help your self water. There is a young group on computers, some spill over from Howard, but accommodation is uncomfortable. Space is bright light clean and yet seats are uncomfortable. Upturn on 7th street offers armchairs and coffee is still good, they are the cupcake specialists, but even more Howard. Compass is located in a side street of new condos with interesting new shops, cloths, food market, tailors, perfume, courier bags etc.

As a HUGE DC fanatic, I am so proud of DC born Compass Coffee expanding. This location is the second location of its mothership just a few blocks away and located in The Shay in Shaw. Its a beautiful space with a very different feel from the original. This new location has a trendy, urban feel to it with upstairs seating and exposed pipes. Its very urban. Like the original location, the coffee and food is amazing and the staff friendly. Theres free wifi. This location also offers grab and go food like salads (kale salad, etc). Next time youre in the area, stop by one of DCs finest coffee shops!

I came in today and love the new facility. The coffee shop is a two story. Buy your drinks down stairs and sit upstairs. As always Compass is popular, so I had a long line. The line moves fast so do not be discouraged. Friendly staff and good coffee. I had the cafe au lait and enjoyed it. Fantastic coffee and fresh ingredients. Next time Ill get espresso.

You cant do better than Compass Coffee. Who doesnt love a nice seasonally-themed cold brew? Opt for maple in the winter, lavender in the spring... Started by two marines and promising to offer a coffee experience that isnt watered down or bitter, Compass is the best. Seating is limited, so dont expect to camp out there, but the coffee is divine.

I love Compass Coffee! Its the trifecta for a productive day: Good coffee, chill ample space, and strong wifi. If youre looking to get some work done, study, or read over the weekend, Compass Coffee is the place for you!

A quieter version of the Compass location south of Rhode Island Avenue. Not as much room as that location, but the upstairs is a great place to camp out and get work done with excellent coffee.

Love the coffee, great selection of local foods and snacks, especially the sweet potato pound cake. Great place to get some work done in the loft upstairs

Excellent coffee that tastes like coffee should. Gets full on the weekends with the usual people playing on their laptops for hours, so dont expect a seat

Smaller than the original location on 7th but a more low key vibe (in a good way) which makes it easier to get work done or just grab and go. :)

The espresso isnt great, but the atmosphere and people are nice. I would go back if they were to improve or rotate their espresso beans/roast.

Great coffee, great service. Finding free space to sit is always challenging so dont be frustrated if you have to take your coffee to go.

Best coffee in DC. Its just too bad that the seating is all so uncomfortable. I get the feeling they want you in and out.

Great coffee from a small chain. Bulk beans are exceptional price to value compared to other rosters in DC m metro area.

Wonderful service, good quality product, multi non-dairy milks. No noteworthy vegan pastries and very little seating.

Their lattes are amazing. I always get it with an extra shot of expresso and extra caramel. Heaven!

Their updated espresso machine is burning the coffee. None of the baristas know how to calibrate it.

Just seeing that they have Kolaches was enough for me, but the coffee is spectacular!
