Everything about this place was absolutely terrible. The food can only taste good if youve had one too many. I guess Grottos thinks that only putting cheese on half the pizza somehow makes it taste better? There are infinitely better pizzerias in the state of Delaware. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. Now on to the service and atmosphere. If youre a newly 21 college kid looking to show off how much testosterone youve built up inside you, Grottos is the place for you. If, however, youve learned to be a reasonable and civil member of society, you may want to check out Kildares or Deer Park while on Main St. Or anywhere but this bar. Be careful when going in there at night as well. I once watched a friend of mine get kicked out by the bouncers for approaching a girl at the bar and simply having a conversation with her. It was completely harmless (trust me, I was the sober one) but we later found out this was a girl that one of the bartenders had his eye on. This was just one of many ridiculous and "cult-like" scenarios Ive seen go on with the Grottos bouncers and staff. Do yourself a favor, stay away from this place. Let it go out of business and maybe a real sports bar will take its place in Newark

Great pizza but terrible staff. I went with my family to take my little cousins to the arcade and ordered 2 drinks while I was there. I went outside to make a phone call and put my belongings in the car since we were getting ready to leave. I walked back into Grottos to go to the bathroom and then walked out of the bathroom by myself when a man stopped me and said I need to leave now because he thought I was under aged (even though I showed my ID to the bartender). I did not have my ID on me by this time, as I was no longer drinking, and told him I was leaving now with my family anyway. He gave me an attitude and looked disgusted when I said I came here with my family, but he just walked away. This place thrives off of under aged college kids, yet he wanted me to leave when Im not even under aged. I understand hes trying to do his job but it was handled in a very unprofessional manner. Id come here again just to show that man my ID and prove him wrong.

I enjoy Grotto Pizzas pizza. It is not traditional pizza, so no classic pizza Margherita or Neapolitan Pizza here. They use a blend of cheese that gives it a more sharp taste than traditional straight-mozzarella pizzas. The sauce is a bit acidic, but thick; so if you do not like runny tomato juice on your pizza from freshly crushed plum tomato sauce, this may be to your liking. The environment here is catered to the college scene. During Fall and Spring semesters it can get crowded in the evening. I also find that the cleanliness is lacking. I think I might stick to the bench in the take-out area, and the smell of stale/split beer wafting in from the bar is nauseating at times. The two star negation for this location, is because of the cleanliness. The service is usually friendly and quick at the take-out counter.

They had the most disgusting bathrooms I have ever seen. I have been in some dive bars but have never seen a bathroom so horrible in my life. I cant even write what I saw as it was so horrible. There were personal products "used" on the floor. Chewed gum in the sink. Drink glasses on the floor with limes and lemons everywhere and the bathroom sink looked like an ash tray had been spilled and tried to be wiped up with toilet paper. Again, I have never seen something so horrible. I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like.

This is THE SPOT to go if you are visiting from another college or just visiting and want to get a taste of what UD students. It is always crowded with UD students especially during the weekend. However because of that, the floors are super sticky and there is no where to dance. Definitely try the slaters, they are $2 a piece and the tradition is you race to see who finish them the fastest among your group (Slater races). P.S definitely try their biscotti gelato. It is 110% better than anything I have had at Cafe Gelato!

This one is three stars. The other 5 or 6 grottos are 5 STAR!!!. This one is old and beat. Plastic chipped mugs. Sticker floors, chairs and chipping. Marked paint everywhere. Plastic pic plumbing and wiring exposed all over. NEW. JUST went again. The floors bar and stools are disgustingly dirty. The bar smell and bath room smell HORIBLE!!! I WOULD BE scared to see the kitchen if the front of the place is this bad!!

This is not a grottos. Dont be fooled. It is the filthiest and dankest (word?) bar in Newark and maybe in the state. But beer is cheap and music is loud and if youve just turned twenty one and youre a broke college student welcome to the only bar on main Street that wont kick you out when you throw up directly in front of staff. The whole place smells like thats a true story. Bouncers are beyond rude.

My wife and I went to grottos on Main st. today for lunch. The first thing we noticed was that the entire bar had some type of dried liquid on it. We asked the bartender to clean it up and he did so.There was approx.6 people at the bar we ordered a couple of salads which were small and tasted ok.The bartender wasnt very friendly he acted like he was in a bad mad.We wont be back!

I love Grottos Pizza, and have loved it since I was a kid. The pizza here is great and this specific location has a great atmosphere for people of the COLLEGE age. If you bring family here, ESPECIALLY during the later hours of the day, it will not be as pleasant as other locations. You have been warned.

Called for delivery quoted 25-30min after 70 min I called to cancel. Manger refunded the money and said keep the pizza when it comes, it never came! What pisses me off is my poor wife was so hungry because she was working all day now I have to cook her something after waiting 90 min.

I have been a longtime Grotto lover, but no longer. The original Grotto pizza is unobtainable - the quantity of sauce and cheese seem to be cut back considerably while the price has increased. There are other pizza restaurants that provide a delicious product for a better price.

ThevLost me credit card then miracly found it after I spoke to a manger. They kicked me out of the bar because the bartender could not find my card and the Bartender thought I was a problem. DO NOT GO TO THIS BAR A WASTE IF MONEY AND BECAREFUL WITH THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE

Absolutely terrible customer service. Ordered 3 pizzas and they were never delivered. Manager was very disrespectful on the phone. I would never order from this place ever...you will be highly dissatisfied.

very overrated, prices are high, especially if you get something other than pizza, and the food taste and quality is mediocre at best, the free popcorn is ok, but thats the only reason its not a 1 star.
