We were headed into the mountains on a Sunday afternoon (thankfully AGAINST the I-70 traffic!) and wed had one of those days where we were just too busy to eat. By the time we got to Wildfire, we were famished. It was an off time, so the restaurant was empty and we were greeted warmly and made to feel welcome. "How hungry are you?" the proprietor asked. He recommended the chicken fried steak, one of my favorites, and my husband had fried chicken. The steak was hand cut and tenderized to order, which was pretty impressive for a small mountain town cafe. The potatoes were fresh also and hand mashed and the gravy was nice and peppery, had good pieces of sausage and tasted finished and cooked, not raw or pasty. I also had the vegetables as a side, and I was disappointed that they were straight from a bag of frozen vegetables without so much as salt and pepper for seasoning. Given the well seasoned steak and gravy, I was surprised. I was told that they serve glazed heirloom carrots usually with the dish, but that they had run out. My husbands fried chicken was perfect for our hunger level! Three generous pieces of house honey battered chicken. It was juicy and cooked perfectly. The batter had a satisfying crunchiness from the honey in the batter and the chicken was well seasoned and moist. We travel to the mountains a lot. We will definitely stop again.

My boyfriend and I decided at the last minute to come up and stay at the hot springs for the night. If you stay at Indian hot springs resort you get a 15% discount here. Its a great atmosphere, not crowded at all, and super cute decor. The food is good, nice home-cooked comfort food. Limited bar options but the margaritas are good. Simple but strong. The reason I decided I needed to review was the service. Our waiter was great. He was extremely friendly and sweet. Id come here again just because of him. His name was Kirk. The food was done quickly and was delicious. I got the French dip sandwich and my boyfriend got the chili rellenos. Reasonable prices.

my first 40 years were in the deep south. if you can relate, let me tell you one thing: this homecooking restaurant has no competition. incredible. every single time. its the food you *think* you can make from home but will never come out this good. we sometimes drive in from boulder in an hour of traffic just to have breakfast here.

How hard is it to fix a breakfast? My eggs were still dripping uncooked eggwhites. My breakfast potatoes werent cooked, husband found a hair in his breakfast burrito. We couldnt get out of there fast enough. We park our motor home outside IS a lot but will never go back to this place.

Stopped in for breakfast. Its on the other end of town from the resorts but worth the 5m drive. Big portions of tasty food, fast service, not at all crowded. The prices were OK considering the resort nature of the town. Plus, theres a vegetarian page on the menu. Woot.

Excellent family style restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled trout, and my husband thought the fried chicken was some of the best hed ever had. Try the home made potato chips. We sat outside, but it was a bit noisy at lunch time with all the traffic.

The older gentleman who served us was funny and served our food quickly, and the green chili fries with cheese were the best weve ever had, and were a couple of fat guys that have had everything from Moab to here. Highly recommended. Really cozy, as well.

Stopped for lunch during the road trip. My wife and I promised ourselves we would not eat at chain fast food places during this trip . Great bacon bleau cheeseburger and my wife really liked her southwest buger. A much better choice than Micky Ds.

Dinner was great and definitely worth the wait. I ordered the chilli rellenos and my girlfriend ordered the chicken fried steak and we were blown away by both of our entrees. Server was short handed and handled it with ease.

Very friendly staff, easy parking, and super easy access to I70. We had the chicken fried steak and the mushroom burger, both were super tasty! Much better option than the chain restaurants around it.
