Growing up in Yuba City I have had the opportunity to eat at El Zarape my whole life. The food is out of this world. I have had just about everything that they offer on the menu and have never had a bad dish. As of right now, my favorite would have to be their shredded beef and bean burrito with beans and rice. My wife raves over their texas enchilada, it’s so big that she makes two sometimes three meals out of it. Now for their salsa, I don’t even know where to start, it’s hands down the best salsa in the area. With the salsa tasting like it’s made fresh daily (I have never asked if it is thou…) and great tortilla chips I could make a meal out of them and some beans and rice. In my opinion they have the best Mexican cuisine in all of Yuba-Sutter. Their service is great, the hostess and the wait-staff are always friendly and outgoing. The wait for food sometimes runs a little long, but I don’t mind it gives the table time to enjoy the chips and salsa. They also have a great selection at the bar and one of the best selections of margaritas in town. Their décor is simple and functional. The tables are always clean when we are sat and the restrooms have always been well maintained when we have been there. One of my favorite things about El Zarape is that in my opinion they are cheap. My wife and I went there the other night for dinner, we both ordered our favorites and I had a crown and coke and the bill was only something like $26. So if you find yourself in the Yuba-Sutter area and are looking for some great Mexican food you can’t go wrong with El Zarape.

Clean atmosphere , fairly friendly staff . Food was bland, my asada tasted like salt and pepper . Salsa is from a can . Chips were freshly fried so that was okay , but who goes into a Mexican restaurant just for chips ? NOT AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD . Chipotle is more authentic with more flavor . What I noticed if you see a bunch of white people at a Mexican restaurant and no Mexicans . Its a indicator of sub par authentic Mexican food . And vice versa with oriential restaurants . Over all , I expected authentic Mexican food with flavor .( not salt and pepper taste and canned salsa) What was received , sub par of my expect ions . I prefer chipotle over this restaurant any day . This is just a place for white people to call Mexican food .

Great at accommodating gluten free diners. While they no longer publicize a gluten free menu, they accommodate my severe gluten intolerance really well. I have only know them to slip up once. They used cheese sauce on the nachos instead of cheese and it was obvious. They took them back and replaced them with no problem. They have a separate fryer for their corn chips and corn tortillas so gluten free diners can enjoy the great chips and salsa that appear on the table almost the minute you sit down. The only down side is that there have been some times when we have waited quite a while for our food.

The management team was of no service. My meal was not prepared well, it seemed like, they took a frozen fish stick and placed in my taco. My husbands Chicken burrito was dry, had no extra ingredients just chicken. My shrimp cocktail was tasteless and my shrimp was partially frozen. I literally ate one shrimp. When I spoke to the woman manager about the dissatisfaction of our meal, she quickly gave me an attitude, I felt as if she racially profiled my husband and I. I would highly not recommend this choice of dinning to anyone.

Great service. Our server was attentive and we never went without anything. However, besides the salsa, our meat and sauces were bland. Restaurants like these could benefit from having a "street food" menu with more authentic flavors. Restaurant was clean and spacious though, so if youre looking for a place for group, especially a group of kids that are selective eaters, then it is a nice place to be. It was a relaxed environment to be in after a busy Saturday.

The food is ok and the pricing is doable. The area where this restaurant seriously lacks is customer service. A group of friends and I received the worst customer service from employees at this restaurant. The largest complaint is directed at the manager and owner for handling the situation like they did. I will strongly discourage friends and family from eating at El Zarape.

My family has been going to El Zarape for almost 30 years. Theyve been in 3 different locations, and the owners have always been warm and welcoming whenever we stop in. The seasoning they use for the chicken (at least the chicken in the Chimis) is THE BEST!! Ive never ever had a meal I didnt love. We live in Sacramento now and its well worth the trip for delisious food.

Great food when they get the to go order correct. At one time I had to go back FIVE times to fix order and they still didnt get it right. Today I ordered Ground Beef tacos and came home with chicken. Once again I had to go back and get the order correct while my meal became cold. They were very sorry but this does not fix the problem of getting to go order correct.

been going to the Zarape since I was 10 and Im 64 now.......so you figure it out.......Live in LA now wish I could recreated the restaurant down here..........When the changed location and the kids took over 10 or 15 years ago they lost some of the real zing..... But if you ask for the original hot sauce and order their chile verde you wont be disappointed.........

The owner knows my sister and I from when we were little. She was very nice and the food was excellent, despite it being crowded, we were able to get a table fairly quickly and the chips were great because they were less salty than most restaurants. Very clean place and great food. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Family owned since the beginning & they are such great people who really care about their customers they like to see new faces & the old alike. Fresh hot delicious food oh did I mention completely authentic! Always clean & the restaurant itself has a nice homey feel with beautiful decor. Definitely make a trip to this place!

Pretty crappy service, we had a man server, mumbling under his breathe acting annoying for not order fast enough if we asked questions about the menu it seemed like the end of the world. Disappointed because I hear great things but when I go in for myself we get a guy who seems like he hates his job.

We were looking for a Mexican restaurant that served good tex-mex style enchiladas and burritos. This was the perfect spot! Im glad its 5 hours from where I live or Id be the size of a house in no time. Its so good that its hard to stop eating. We will come again the next time were in town for sure!

Tried to customize my order and was not able to. I am not a fan of cilantro and wanted it out of the dishes. Waitress said the food is made in the morning and the cooks are not able to eliminate items. Not sure if that is the case or I had a miscommunication with the waitress.
