HORRIBLE!... Roaches on the walls, cold beans and rice with unmelted cheese! Old guy helping had a scent of doodoo on his hands as if he had just gotten out of the John.. Old guacamole...when we asked for salsa and more napkins, we were answered with "You dont have enough already?" mind you there are 3 of us and only 3 napkins on the table. They charge $2.00 for a side of sour cream and $12 for a 6" CHEESE quesadilla.. HORRIBLE SERVICE!! Old guy waiting came to check on us once the entire dinner!! Then actually had the nerve to ask for a tip! HAHAHAHA!! Definitely not a cash tip you BUM.. OLD FART.

If there was no star rating I would have picked that one or anything lower. Food was absolutely disgusting! I order a guacamole that they claimed it was handmade and it wasnt you can tell they have just taken it out of a packaging. My friend and I ordered our main dish and within seconds they brought our food out, now you know no effort went into making our meal this is pre-cooked food that they just heat up and serve absolutely horrible I wouldnt recommend this place if you want to throw money away then go there otherwise please go enjoy a meal elsewhere Im never going back to this place!

Place has been there for an incredible 52 years (as of 2016). Pretty much looks like the day it opened. That was kinda charming in the 90s when Venice was still rough and this was a wonderful neighborhood hang with very reasonable prices. Now Venice is hip, hip, hip and Rose Avenue is the new restaurant row. La Cabana has stayed the same. Still dimly lit, still oddly furnished, same surly waiters. But the prices have been jacked up to the level of surrounding establishments. The Barbacoa is still as delicious as ever, but cost/value is not totally out of whack.

Those bad reviews are total BS. Total sabotage. This is the best authentic Mexican food in LA. Without a doubt. Also the best Margaritas, period. Ive gone for years and the service has never been less than stellar. The food, perfect, fresh and very hot. We always look forward to returning. Home made tortillas. The best costs. If you cant afford them, dont go. (They are not expensive. The prices are more than reasonable for an upscale Mexican restaurant. Do not go by these obvious negatives, this place is fantastic. I may go tonight!

Probably the best enchilada on the west side. The food they serve isnt "mexicali" food. The restaraunt has a very old school intimate feel (probably because its been around over 50 years). They have a good beer selection and decent margaritas. The tortillas are made on site and you can occasionally see them being made in the dining room. They also will make guacamole at the table side which I highly recommend. For those who play pokemon go. The restaraunt is a pokestop and you can find lures up throughout the day.

Cali-Mex - this is the best I can describe the food style here, it is far from authentic Mexican. Although fresh made tortillas and guacamole are true gifts for nostalgia. I am guessing the menu works for the eclectic community of Venice Beach, but it seems to me their dishes have strayed far from old Mexico ways into absurd (Thousand Island dressing on a tostada, seriously?!?). The staff was kind, attentive, and on the ball. The building certainly smells historic, or rather like it has been there for decades.

We went there, had a GREAT tasting meal, fun atmosphere... and then we got the BILL... not one.... not two... but THREE extra entrees were added to our bill... not to mention TWO extra drinks! thats like 40 bucks at least added on. Never trust the bill, always read the itemized receipt at this place... its honestly the 2nd time this has happened to us. Not as much added on the last time though. OH... and my friend was up all night with food poisoning. Dont eat the Carnitas this week or two ( March 4th, 2010)

For the first time we tried La Cabana. We found the parking difficult, unless you park in Whole Foods, Environment inside is Ok, Not very friendly. The food was mediocre, VERY high priced for what you get, Its one of those restaurants that charge for every little thing. Margarita was nothing to go back for. No plans to return. The Mexican food at the fast food stand down the street is a 1/4 of the cost and twice as good as LaCabana.

This place is horrible. I ordered delivery, got it to my door. Went inside and opened the bag. My full order wasnt in the bag, but I was definitely charged for everything. Even for the food they didnt deliver. I decided to call and see what had happened and was hung up on as I tried to tell the guy on the other line the problem with my order. Definitely the place to eat if you want to get ripped off and shafted!

My experience was very inconvenient. We ask guacamole and a green burrito. -The guacamole came with the bar code sticker chopped inside, and -the burrito came with a repulsive 2 inches string of metal (I think from one of those steel wool things you use for doing the dishes) -in addition, the food is tasteless You will end parking in the parking lot in front of them but I dont suggest going. They didnt charge us.

I have the luxury of living 1 block away from this treasure. When u walk in u feel like ur in old time Mexico. Food Absolutly delicious. My favorite is the nachos grande chicken order it to go (huge serving) and very speedy service. The drinks are delicious, but drink specials are about the only thing lacking. Wish they had a better options. Open till 3am, huge plus!

I used to go here after work with my girlfriends once a week. This time the glassware was filthy, my bean and cheese burrito was cold and not melted, there was a hair in my boyfriends food, and a fly in my margarita. SO GROSSED OUT would have been more forgiving had they apologized and comped the fly cocktail (or something) . But no reaction what so ever......

Food was good. Really attentive service. The Pechugas de Angel (Angel Breasts) were really tasty. Patio looked really nice, but we decided to skip it because they allow smoking there and we didnt feel like inhaling second-hand nicotine. If you dont mind, it would probably be a pleasant place to have dinner on a summer evening.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in West Los Angeles Venice area Carnitas plate is excellent the fresh-made guacamole at your table is awesome and they make homemade hot corn tortillas a definite must go! All of the waiters are true professionals men that have been there for 10 20 or 30 years.

One of the few late night places near the beach. La Cabanas atmosphere is pretty classic, but the food isnt anything to write home about. They are extremely fast though, and the service is typically fantastic. Still, I probably wouldnt go here unless it was because its the only place open.
